I have had Lindens returning my gay ads from my adfarms. It is needing only 1 person to complaining about them and i am suspend and getting ad cubes returned to me. there is no nudity, just suggestion of gay adult website. I think it might be because they are gay though.

I think you are right on this one. And since Mature and PG sims are often adjacent to each other, and you can disable the camera constraints to cam all over the place, this would make ARing them perfectly reasonable. Sure, they could still spam us with other images, but this way would cause them to make more effort, and eventually some of them may conclude it's not worth the extra work.

So you are saying your gay porn text(mentioning websites) is being returned while graphic straight porn pictures(mentioning websites) are not?

I think the difference is not whether it's gay or not but whether someone submits an AR or not. I can only presume someone found his cube objectional enough that they submitted an AR. Pretty amazing when you consider it was only text. If we find other ad cubes objectional that do not fall under community standards, yet we only complain in these forums then we have only ourselves to blame.

Are they placed in such a way that they break immersion for others? That might also be it you know. I've got a build on which is attemtping some serenity in a place full of adfarms, perhaps I like things to be harder than they might be, but I could strangle the woman with the escort ads. However, there's nothing I can really AR them for, they are just unwanted by me and there blatently to drive up the land price (everyone has banlines up around there to deter landbots and the like).

My take is that you can't automatically assume sexual preference and/or bigotry is the reason unless you've been able to eliminate the other possible factors. If that's the case then Occam's Razor says you are right.

I'd ask anyone with an ad = "Would you like to live next to it if it was not something which has personal benefit to you".

I can't see one person complaining will get you banned. It probably has more to do with the website content.

Linden Lab is very tolerant of homosexuality - after all they are based in San Francisco - so I don't think you were a 'victim' as such, just someone reported it and worded an AR well enough to justify.

If you were at LL and you received two reports:

"OMG! U have got 2 remove this crap its spoiling my view"

or

"There is an advertisment at SomeRegion 28,141 which emits particles and noise, and crosses the parcel border into my home. It is spoiling my enjoyment of Second Life, and I believe such an item violates 'Disturbing the peace' and 'no spam' from the community standards. Additionally, the small parcel is set for sale at L$99999 and therefore I believe that it is an attempt to extort money from me through harrassment by buying the land to remove it."

Which one would you act on, and which one would you discard?

Seriously? You're more concerned about them showing up in the forum than in the non-mature areas of the game? Use these pics as REFERENCE TOOLS, for christs sake. We didn't just post up NSFW pictures on the forum, we posted pictures of NSFW stuff being displayed in game in areas that are non-mature!

Well that's a little unfair because Jeska isn't responsible for removing the obscene stuff in-world. That's the job of the liaisons. They're the ones that monitor the incoming abuse reports.

True... how many people taking these pictures of IWC (in-world crap) actually bothered to report them for the abuse they are then, instead of just putting pictures up?

LL can't take action on things that haven't been reported to them with locations. Does it always have to be left to me to report stuff? Surely someone else can do it some time.

I wonder if there would be any effect from posting shots of the imagery one finds offensive, or links to such shots, at sites such as your own blog or web page and in replies to articles on the business and educational uses of SL.

Readership of this forum is very limited. This forum is seen by folks already using SL. This forum in not indexed by normal search engines. Posting somewhere other than here might be a more effective protest.

That's a VERY good thought. It does seem that the Lindens don't act unless there's OUTSIDE pressure (like from the law, the press, or bad publicity) brought to bear. If we put up some of those photos and get them ranked highly in search engines so those pages show up when people search for info on SL, maybe they'll finally take some action.

As for Jeska's post: I don't see hypocrisy there, really; rather, I see a pretty clear shot-over-the-bow of adfarmers. If at this point they're not falling over each other to divest themselves of these parcels, they're collectively dumber than fenceposts.

Banning is too good for 'em! We need to have their AV's drawn & quartered as an example for any that would follow! Seriously though, I believe we need to discuss acceptable advert practices so that well intentioned folks don't get harassed in a witch hunt. There is a slippery slope side to this issue, but I highly agree that add farms are way over the top. We need to determine now what are the limits, and once agreed upon, forward to LL for consideration.

Again with the slippery slope issue. This is brought up so often and I just don't get it. There is a huge difference between a billboard and an adfarm. It's not to hard to figure out. It's way beyond the point of discussion and time LL takes action.

I love boobs. The word. The boobs themselves. Everything about the subject.
