Casino ads--isn't this against the rules?
[EDITED]
I thought this one might be against posting rules, but LL seems to disagree as they have ignored an AR on if for over a week now.

Every once in a while someone posts who seems not to understand why adfarms are so hated, I thought I'd post a gallery of some of my own personal "worst of" collection of adfarm photos.

![]() This one I call "Completely Missing the Point" ![]() Combining an adfarm with an ATM. Why am I not surprised. ![]() I'm sure the people who paid Linden Lab around 2000US$ for this new sim were just delighted to have their first sale torpedo the value of the rest of the land. [EDITED] Just like my inbox without a spam filter--but in 3D! (continued) |

![]() In parts of the new continents you can trace the paths of unbuilt roads by the swarms of adfarms on either side of the Linden right of way. ![]() This is either a clear "Misuse of Linden Logo" AR, or Linden Lab's way of telling us to go buy islands. ![]() Here's a shot from the mapview, illustrating how the problem is the worst on the newer Linden continents. ![]() The hills are alive... Someone kill them quick. (continued) |

![]() Welcome to the Mainland everyone! ![]() What's in your living room? Just so we understand here, adcutters/adfarmers = scum of the earth. "What's in Your Living Room" photos by Atashi Yue. Feel free to add your "worst of" to this gallery... |

My first response to the pics is "YEAH this is bad"
but your dry comments were so cynical, Carl, I couldn't stop laughing. |

Hmmm, that's funny...despite the fabulous and advertising I still don't have the urge to buy sexy shoes, find an my anonymous sex partner, and go to an online casino.
I love the mainland and ad farms make me sad. I find the pictures at the bottom the most despicable. I hate to think of people being ripped off that way. I hope something can and will be done about them some day, though I don't know what the solution is. _____________________

Thank you Carl.
![]() I am very disappointed that the whole "visual muting" thing hasn't moved forward. The ability to hide from your view everything on a certain parcel or owned by a certain person... this one simple thing would make any adfarm no more than a momentary annoyance, muted and never to be seen again. Why isn't this happening? (Other than in the unofficial open source clients.) |

Can we boycott the stores and shops and websites that use these adfarms?
I mean if the buisnesses that use this method of advertiement realise its hurting their buisness more than helping it maybe they would stop hiring out these adfarmers services? Without people willing to buy the space the adfarmers would eventually fold right? ~Lana Tomba P.S. and if that is indeed an SL advertisement backed by LL then its downright disgusting. |

Again I'm wondering why this ad farming isn't a violation of the TOS. From the Community Standards:
Disturbing the Peace Every Resident has a right to live their Second Life. Disrupting scheduled events, repeated transmission of undesired advertising content, the use of repetitive sounds, following or self-spawning items, or other objects that intentionally slow server performance or inhibit another Resident's ability to enjoy Second Life are examples of Disturbing the Peace. So if "Objects that intentionally . . . inhibit another Resident's ability to enjoy Second Life are examples of Disturbing the Peace," someone could make a pretty good case for ad farms being just that, a breach of Community Standards and a violation of the TOS. Why should we not mass AR them? I've posted this elsewhere but I believe it got lost in an unmoderated personal dispute. Sorry for the duplication. Edit: The point is not to advertise - it is to make the surrounding land less desirable to extort a high price for the ad farm land. I'm not wording this very well, I'm afraid. . . but boycotting the advertisers would have little effect if I'm understanding the problem correctly. |

I bought land today, lots of it. the company I bought from had erected large STONE walls around the one ad farm( yes, that one guy had ads there) in the middle of the sim. I'm hoping to buy the land surrounding said ad farm, or find friends to, and we'll leave the walls in tact...so the ad farmer can find his glee, but the parcels I bought were under 10L/sq meter, mainland. so no extortion here. if he buys the available ones, I'll just raise up more walls. Nothing wrong with walls on my property, right?
And, I still don't understand why anyone would wanna own less than 512 unless maybe it's to host a server or an online shopping box like onrez or slx or something? I can't see any legitamate reason.. Unless, they are going to use up their whole 512 alotment 16sqm at a time? anyway... Can I AR this ad farm? if so, I will....what else can I do besides buy up the remaining ad farm land..it's going for 200L per 16 sqm but I"m outta cash and I can't crank my tier up anymore ![]() _____________________

This really really makes my blood boil. ~Lana Tomba |

![]() This is my favorite Ad Farm, and.... ![]() ..... this picture is the reason why. It's what replaced the Relay for Life ad when they pulled their ad from the Ad Farm. I still crack up when I see it and something that many of us should be proud of. ![]() _____________________

Wish I could post my fave pic, but it's on my brother's PC.
After some exploring of the continent of Heterocera, he came upon the great wall. Took a great tourist type pic standing on the wall's roadway with the moon setting behind him, framed by dozens of various ads for all kinds of things. Some with decidedly nsfw images. _____________________

OMG, so I go in, and there's this fellow, buying up the outside perimeter of the adfarm next to my land.....and raises it, making the inside plot of the 512 useless. He did it cause he hates ad farms. Kinda cool...

I don't understand the significance of the pics at the bottom of hte OP's post...the 512m plot. It's hard to see but it's a 16m plot in the middle of a 512m plot. The sneaky part is it's hidden under a house so someone buying the 512 wouldn't realize the 16m is there. He used controls to make the house invisible which a bot or an inexperienced buyer wouldn't know to do. _____________________

I don't understand the significance of the pics at the bottom of hte OP's post...the 512m plot. Look at the property lines. The seller put a house on the plot to hide the fact that there is a separate parcel cut out right in the middle of the one for sale. Naive people would buy the main parcel, and only find out about the one in the middle when it was too late... when the scum who carved it out puts up a giant spinning ad right in the middle of the land buyer's home. ![]() ![]() |
