/checks calendar ... nope, not Friday. Yet.

But someone insisted I was a furry the other day, and it's been bothering me.

Evidence:

1. I'm fuzzy.

2. I look in the mirror (OK, mirrors don't really work in SL, so I have to sort of cam into the wall and simulate it) and see the llama.

3. My poor GF was confused at the beach party because I showed up as a human in swim shorts. There are a few people who have caught me in my human suit and didnt recognize me at all.

4. A total stranger told me I was a furry. In fact, he INSISTED that I was a furry, and further asserted I was weird. (I already know I'm weird, I didn't need his input on that.)

5. I've gotten spam for The Ark three times in the last two weeks. I've never been there, I swear.

Someone help me with my identity crisis? Furry, or not furry?

It's a huge pile of BS, but it works most of the time.

To me, a Furry is someone who lives the lifestyle. Like, you'd be out looking for llama-ettes, and you'd have the proper llama "attachments" if you catch my drift. Since Elora is definitely not a llama-ette, you're not a Furry.

You'll get a different answer depending on who you ask

To some any animalistic traits on an avatar means furry (including the nekos)

Others base it on activities and behavior

After all instead of a furry, you could be an alien. Since none would call ya furry for running around with a wookiee or ewok avatar...

It is actualy only a misconception that people with "furry" avatars in SL are furries.

Really it is a term that is unassociated with SL. A furry is a person with a strong interest in these characters that can for example be seen as "furry avatars" in second life.

There is a whole lifestyle involved, that people participate in with varying degrees of participation. Conventions for example. One of the largest parts of the furry fandom is art, there are thousands of furry artists and hundreds of websites dedicated to hosting there material.

Furs have been around since the internet started

In text based vurtual worlds, newsgroups, you name it.
