LOLz...well, we understand the word "breasts" but "boobies" is one of the most exciting words in the English language, so if you really want our attention... :D

Honestly . . .

"Boobies" is what my niece used to say when she wanted to be breast-fed. I don't think it's a term I've used since before I had any to talk about.

"Boobs" is good and serviceable, but usually in a slightly humorous context.

"Tits" is used somewhat contemptuously ("I think she got those tits out of a box";)

"Bosom" is nice, but a wee bit . . . fey?

For "Ta-tas" etc., see "Boobs" above.

"Breasts," on the other hand, is not merely "correct," and even polite, but (to me) a little poetic. ("Laying his head upon her snowy breasts," etc.)

Have you *seen* the television commercials on kid-oriented channels (think Nicktoons and the like)? It's like we have never progressed beyond the 1950's! Girls are still expected to play with dolls (take care of babies) and play house (be the domestic Stepford Wife) while the boys run around with cars and guns and Transformers and everything else! It is, therefore, small wonder that women have such a hard time seeing past their "traditional" roles.

While I'd love to believe that gender stereotypes are solely culturally determined, having had a son and a daughter, I am fairly convinced otherwise. I did all I could not to push either of them in any particular direction and was quite heartened when my daughter asked for this huge roaring Godzilla toy for Christmas one year. By bedtime, she was wheeling the thing round the house in a dolly pram with a little pink blacket wrapped around its knees. Meanwhile, her brother was playing hand-grenades with Barbie's head. *shrug*

Of course it's important to try not to reinforce the stereotypes further, but there is quite a fundamental difference, on average, in the "raw materials", so to speak. I think to ignore it completely and try to treat girls and boys as if they are exactly the same can have some bad effects. For example, I have been reading a lot lately about how boys do worse at school, especially in the early years, in part because the educational models are geared too much towards how girls learn. Boys in the classroom often end up being seen as "problems" because their behaviour and learning styles don't easily fit in to such a system.

I think I agree. Why does it have to be Nature OR Nurture? Humans are incredibly complicated: I suspect that there are zillions of factors that go into producing our identities.

I have a friend with a young son. Being a "responsible" parent and a feminist, she went out of her way to keep him from being exposed to violent TV and movies, comics, video games, etc., and she refused to buy him -- or let him accept -- toys with violent themes, including even water guns.

So, he took to running around with a branch from a tree, yelling "bang bang" . . .

/me shrugs

BTW, "norks" is HILARIOUS! :p

But who taught her that, is my question!!!

I don't like the word "boobs"... It makes me think of jokes my mother would tell :P

May I suggest "titties"? This is a close second to "boobies."

Makes me think of "Bosom Buddies" LOLz

No offense, but only a woman could get excited reading that sentence ;)

Sorry . . . but WHO is it, precisely, whom you are trying to excite? Billy Bob, who has the locker next to yours at the gym?

Learn, Smify. Learn.

LMAO :D

When I was a kid I spent equal time playing dolly tea time with my sister and GI Joe/Star Wars with my brother... I never asked for either of those types of toys myself though, only books and art supplies... But well OK, I did have a really large collection of teddy bears... (Oh God, I'm not actually sure I should hit "Submit Reply" on this!!)

Here's the thing, though. NONE of these terms does anything for me. SOME of them ("Jugs"???? Ewwww!) are downright turn-offs.

Any women here want to dissent?

More than "Jugs" or "Fun cushions"? Yeah. These things are all relative.

"Her Devil's Dumplings glistened warm and enticing in the moonlight, needing only a copious serving of his warm custard to make them complete."

LOL

Well, so long as women are saddled with "boobies," instead of "breasts," I see impediments to our further success . . .
