Yeah, look what D&D did to people. It turned them into intelligent people with open minds who aren't afraid to actually use their brains. As far as I could tell, it turned them into people who bring costumes rather than dates to movie theaters, and who spend months teaching themselves how to speak languages that never existed... _____________________

Yeah, and look what it did to people. I'm living Proof! Seriously, I had a Cousin who's step-son was ditching school to stay home & play WoW. So, how'd my older cousin handle it? Simple- Took the computer outside, smashed it to bits. Told the kid to get his ass back to school or he's getting kicked out. Oh, and add to that "get a hair cut". Heh! Our family has a thing against anyone with hair longer than a crew cut (which makes me the black sheep of the family). When I see videos of these kids freaking out over a video game I wonder if there's something MORE to why they're that attached to it. I see the game as a symptom of something more going on with the kid. _____________________

LARP just screams "Beat Me Up For My Lunch Money". YET..... How does this compare to people who use SL?? Yeah, at least with a LARP, you get out of the basement to meet other people once in a while, not to mention get some EXERCISE. Most of the folks I saw at our LARP were the kind that beat up kids for their lunch money. >.> |

I see a boy who generally hates his life and has had the only thing that he derives pleasure from removed against his will. It will take a lot of understanding at this point for this kid to become a healthy, happy adult. Doesn't look like he has much chance of that happening.

This has not produced a happy, stable society either. I suggest it is time for a different approach based on communication, understanding & reason. Also, I doubt he's been indulged, more likely ignored. When my kid wanted to do nothing but play video games I let him. He got bored of it after a time and concluded that he didn't actually want to play so much after all. The most important thing we can teach our kids is to think for themselves. There is a severe lack of that in this world. _____________________
