My most recent experience with the "uninvited guest!"
Rented home with no land rights to evict or ban.

Logged and noticed visitor as soon as,
chat went as follows (saved in case I was threatened with AR... again)

Edited to protect the guilty!

[5:42] You: Hi
[5:42] E***l F***n: hey

[5:43] E***l F***n: imtaking a walk

[5:44] You: I should explain though, this is my home and you were not invited!

He uses the TP system in my home to explore it more.... Grrrrr!

[5:47] You: can I help you?
[5:48] E***l F***n: no
[5:48] You: this is my home!
[5:48] You: You were not invited here!

(No Reply.... Intruder sits on patio lounger)

[5:49] dopestyle: shield active.
[5:49] dopestyle: intercepts enabled.
[5:50] You: can you please leave....I want you to leave now ok!?!

(No Reply.... Intruder stands on pose stand) Grrrrrrrrrr!!

[5:51] inner shield: collision with object (bump!).
[5:52] dopestyle: Deleting all followers in sim.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you were taking advantage the lack of moderation here to send me a message. :)

I'd hate to think there's this many ignorant adults or I'd just lose faith in humanity.

Hehe - this situation actually happened to a RL neighbor when she was hosting a baby shower in RL. A male neighbor popped by uninvited and stayed, naturally, her mute and ban options were somewhat limited - he lives next door. He's a nice enough guy, married, very kind, but, socially inept. So, it does happen.............

This kinda reminds me of a situation that happened yesterday.

It was kid Scout promotion day, which also included a talent show. While two child avatars were on stage 'performing' John Lennon's Imagine (it was a cute recording of the song!), an avatar came in with a group tag of "show stopper." She made a beeline for the stage and started the "bootylicious" dance for the audience. Needless to say, she was promptly shown the door by way of a swift kick to that rear -- to which the only good response I could think of would be Nelson''s "Ha ha!"

It was clearly an example of bad manners in action, though, ya know?

Procedure to ban/eject?
02-11-2008 10:27
This is a newbish question - please forgive...

How does one eject/ban? Also freeze/AR?

I have in the past had random people walk into my house and refuse to leave, but couldn't figure out how to eject them - guess I have been missing it on the tool bar or whatever.

Also, I know how to AR, but I've heard you guys speak of "freezing"? What is that and how does it apply?

Thanks :)

The guy in the OP was totally out of line. If I popped into a club and it turned out to be a private party, I'd beat feet out of there before the host had a chance to ask me to leave, but even if I didn't notice, the second I was asked to leave, I'd apologize profusely and be gone. The guy described in the post was incredibly rude.

On the other hand, if I pop into a club, or accidentally crash a wedding or something, I'd like a few seconds to realize I'm in the wrong place and to tp home. There has to be some consideration for the nature of SL. Sometimes you can't tell what you're about to get into or your tp drops you somewhere unintended. I have a friend who I visit pretty frequently and the only way to get to her place is to tp onto the roof of a neighbor's house and walk over since the neighbor has fly disabled. The roof is the only place on the sim I can tp to. Weird, huh? It's a mainland sim as well. At any rate, the point is that people running private events need to be a little flexible and not instantly orbit and ban people who wander by, but there is no excuse for not leaving immediately when asked.

I had a drop in a couple weeks ago. He was nice enough to ask if he could tour my home as he really liked it, I said it was ok and then walked him in. After that, I thought perhaps I made a mistake and shouldn't have said it was ok, so I offered him a LM to the sim in which I purchases the house and told him he can do a tour there. He didn't get the hint, so I just walked with him through my house, made sure everything was fine, then he offered me friendship and left. Really strange, but at least he asked first, not that he could have gone into the house anyway........I love door locks.

Have to include rez time too

Hard to realize what kind of party or club it might be when everyone is grey.

For the first minute or so its just a group of grey people in a grey room. :p

Good point. It may take a while to realize that you're really in the wrong place. You can still receive IM's while you're rezzing, though, so if the host IM's you and says something polite like, "I'm sorry, this is a private event. Could you step out and allow us to continue?" You don't even need to wait for everything to rez. That's all you need to know, and if you ignore that IM, then the host is within her rights to eject you.

I guess if the sim is lagging badly, that's another issue that might slow you down. But heck, it's SL. You have to take everything with a grain of salt and even if someone is rude to you, they can't really injure you, so you might as well laugh it off and go on about your business.

Why? They cant's stop folks from entering unless you have no furniture or objects to sit on inside your place.

They don't even need that, if they can rez an object on your land, or nearby.

Door locks are polite hints and polite people take the hints, so the locks are useful. For impolite people, other measures are often necessary...

I also have my blinds drawn when I'm not home, so no one could really see where my furniture is..........that helps doesn't it?

No - camera controls let them just pan inside. Blinds are like locks. They are a polite hint to polite people. They have no effect on rude people.

Oh that's right. My friend just told me about the seeing through walls thing the other day. I forgot........Yikes. I guess it's a good thing that for now, the sims I live on are pretty low key and we don't tend to have many drop in visitors.

I've been dabbling in machinima lately. Let's videotape whatever she's doing behind closed doors and post it on Youtube. It'll go viral and we'll be famous!

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
