I spent about 2 hours on some OI, I don't remember which one, taking the tutorial.. I do remember thinking that I was going to hate SL as no matter what I did with the sliders I could not make my skin look anything like skin.. I finished the tutorial and went off to help island, I messed around building a few things, found some freebies. I had someone offer me friendship without saying a word.. I declined having been in other worlds in the past, told him maybe when we knew each other better.. He called my a byatch and muted me. I laughed and walked off. Saw an sign for a place called the Shelter and figured out being homeless I should go there. Meet some nice people there, picked up a few new clothes and shoes... I asked one of the girls there how I could get a skin like hers. She gave me a LM to Alady and off I went.. OMG.. A huge mall.. I remember thinking to myself.. "Oh I am going to love this place!". Burned $20 US on my CC and ended up with 5k lindens.. Bought myself a nice skin, and started shopping for clothes and shoes.. Wandering the mall I meet my first friend, she was also new and we talked for a hour about all we had seen so far... I shopped and explored all day and into the night.. I think I spent 10 hours in SL that first day.. Been here almost every day since..

I can't remember where the place was I was dumped but I remember the experience. There was an old gnome or troll like character sitting on a mushroom reading a book and smoking from a hookah. He welcomed me and kept talking to me, but I was frightened and got quickly away from him. Everyone else around seemed very chaotic. All I remember about the area is that it seemed like a park in a city.
My partner arrived at Bear Info Hub. Is that possible? I remember his experience was much nicer than mine and he continued to go back for awhile to meet people.

Worked out though, you became a famous forums cartel celeb and Bollywood actor. And we never heard of him.

I remember rezzing on some island that had different paths to walk down to learn different things. I had some kind of annoying newbie hud on my screen that I couldn't get rid of and I couldn't do anything until I went thru the steps. Luckily I was talking to a friend on yahoo messenger who told me to take the tp she sent me. She tped me into complete darkness. I couldn't see anything LOL But I caught on quick and here I am almost a year later! I tried to go back to that place but to no avail. . . . . . . I had lots of help and soon had some clothes and a skin that I thought looked decent until I saw some of the other avs and then I realized I looked like crap LMAO

Isabel Infohub. It was set as my home till I bothered to set up a house. On my first day I found my way to The Shelter, browsed the freebies on the table and logged off for the night, thinking my avatar would stay standing there until I logged on next

I remember thinking my av would stay where I left him also. Finally it hit me that if that was the case we'd see sleeping avs standing around all over the place.

I never made it to OI. The first time I logged in I appeared in a place called Korea( a strange empty city full of empty buildings and with avatars popping in and out) . It took me a while to figure out that it was not OI and longer to figure out how to get to OI. After reading this thread, I looked up Korea and found a number of sims by that name, I just went to Korea2 and it looked about as I remembered it, funny thing is it is owned by Governor Linden and is still full of empty buildings and has avatars popping in to it. Anyone know anything about these Korea sims?

Korea is where alot of ejected avatars are dumped. My initial dumping was on a grassy knoll near a carnival area. I just remember green rolling hills and off in the distance clubs etc. I never did save that LM..seemd as generic a place as any..prolly best I didnt.

I couldn't remember the name of the place, but reading the responses on this thread, I'm pretty sure it was Ahern. Smallish welcome area with a shooting gallery. Actually the first time I came into SL (into the beta in 2003) I'm not sure I even made it off the OI! I hated SL that much! I do remember thinking I had to complete the tasks there first and everything seemed sooo clunky. I came from there.com as well SL had this reputation over thereof being a den of sex and depravity ..probably still does haha

From: Trout Recreant First of all, I love your sig. Hilarious. I've become the Dr. Ruth of SL, only not in a cute grandmotherly way and without the funny accent.
I have similar memories. I was pretty sure I stole a torch from OI. I wanted to steal a Segway but couldn't figure out how. After that section of OI, I figured SL was like a giant city with streets leading everywhere and everyone drove around in goofy cars and on Segways. I got to the main grid and hopped in the first car I could find. Then the second, third, etc. None of them worked because I didn't own them. Some carjacker I am. You ARE the SL Dr. Ruth. And more. Your advice is thoughtful and rational -- what more could we ask for? Stole a torch! LOL Crazy what we think when we first get here. I was pretty bummed about the cars too -- I just wanted to tear down the roads! Probably wouldn't have gotten very far with sim crossing dangers... but what do you know as a newbie!

I have found SL to be much like that experience, whether just a day or the the over all story of my time here. There are the rare few who just do not get on well, many helpful people, and there is always someone you never expect who just makes being in world fun. Oh, and spending money too I got in so much trouble the first few weeks ... had to buy it all.
