Hi, i've been here for over a year,my pals think i am barking mad and need a doctor.My son won't even look at the screen to see what i have done,just sniggers and plays nintendo.As for my wife ,well she is still here somewhere,i think.she finds it hard to understand why i like tiling walls in sl but it takes me months in rl .lol. sounds like i am a dork whatever that may be.Cheers Blot

Try this simple exercise, find a mirror in SL, look at your reflection...now say out loud..

" Well (insert your avatars name here), lets face it. You are big fu**ing loser. "

There........I bet you feel better now, dont you. As though a great weight has been lifted from your shoulders.

I used to be cool.......once.......but now I have been subsumed into the dork collective.
Now I worry about things like packet loss, radius of a light source, how windlight advanced shaders impact Frames Per Second.

My fiance thinks I'm a nerd....but he is too...just in a different venue. He plays stuff like Call of Duty and Halo (I do too) But I'm in SL more for the creative aspects....I'm an artist and I happen to be computer literate and fascinated by advanced graphics. He thinks SL is a bit scary, the idea that people take it so seriously has him worried about me. LOL

Most people who just meet me act very surprised when they learn I'm such a nerd.... I don't fit the profile (whatever that means, no thick glasses or pocket protector I guess) I'm 39, not a troll, and very social when I'm in the mood. lol

People who know me well, understand that I'm always driven by my creativity and having grown up in the 80s arcade era, gaming comes naturally to me. Over Thanksgiving I managed to get my family pretty intrigued by SL, tho I doubt any of them will actually get an account..... they were blown away by the flickr pics I have. But none of them are really computer geeks the way I am....well.....my brother is a musician and he's got a kick ass mixing program....and he just recently discovered a pc golf game where you can make your own avitars and he was obsessed with making women with 'perfect' asses. LOL But that's as far as it goes with him. He only got interested in games for my nephews sake. I would love to talk him in to playing concerts in SL....he would clean up...all bias aside, he's an amazing musician and his voice is beautiful. he's working on CD's and I think SL would be such an awesome way for him to test the market and get his voice out there. (from what I've heard, a lot of live music in SL is just folks who happen to have the tools to do it, but not necessarily the talent)

Now my nephew is 14....and when he saw my flickr pics his eyes became saucers and he wanted to know all about SL. LOL oops. But over all.... I don't discuss SL with people whom I know would look at me sideways. Doesn't matter to me what anyone thinks. I enjoy it...I love being creative. It's just another medium for exploration.

The issue I run into isnt so much them thinking i'm a dork, but they would rather watch TV.

Ditto here. ALL my friends have considered me a Major Dork ever since elementary school anyway. I have a t shirt that says "NO, I WON'T fix your computer" and I'm proud of it.

Edit: Alyx is a dork too. She ALWAYS wears glasses. Actually all my alts do, too....apart from the male one, funny enough.

They don't think it..they KNOW it. It's ok tho..I AM a dork and I am proud!

I actually may have turned my apt manager on to it as he had to come up and fix the garbage diposal and i had it up. he saw it and asked if i was playing The Sims, i lauhed and gave him a quick explanation at the time of what it was. He watched me work, and was impressed with the graphics(he is a computer geek himself) and is thinking of joining.

my friends(who can go on for HOURS about Neopets) consider SL a losers paradise.

glasses don't make a dork. I'm a complete dork and I don't wear glasses, but my friend who wears glasses must be one of the coolest people on the planet. Except for the mythical forum folk

Saw an article in the paper on SL and began research. Two months later my office co-worker comes in and tells me she has signed up to play a very cool game called Second Life. I go home that night and join. Now there are 5 people in the building who are citizens of SL. We meet sometimes, help each other out etc. And me thinks there are several more who are inworld but won't fess up. LOL We are accountants, techs, secretary's and engineers, go figure.
