From: Mickey Vandeverre When Argent was making the plane.....were you there every step of the way to encourage him, and to tell him that he had a great idea, and to support his building efforts?
Looks like he might want to do some improvements to it.....so you will be there at every step, again, to encourage him? I personally wasn't, no. But there was _someone_ he expected to be able to show it to in the future to think it was cool. I'm aware that this is the generic/specific problem but I don't think that makes the whole thing a write off..

As happy as people seem to help, what they're really thinking is that there's never any benefit to interacting with me.

It also means they're saying they couldn't be interested in anything ("cool" or otherwise) I made, because otherwise that interest would be a benefit.

So you think it is impossible for a person to hang out with another person, if they NEVER receive a benefit? And that it is a requirement for those who hang out with you to be interested in whatever you "make".....no other requirements.....such as an interest in a dozen other aspects of your life?

From: Mickey Vandeverre So it's "required".....and do you reciprocate? let me answer. so far, no. i have never been asked what i am doing, interested in, etc. it's always a one-way conversation. but that's the way that relationship is. i accept that about Yumi.

From: Mickey Vandeverre So it's "required".....and do you reciprocate? No, I didn't say it was required, you said that. I said it was something I would like and that it is the thing relevant to the ongoing discussion. But saying there is NEVER any benefit is also implying they don't see any value in me at all, even just to chat with, because if they did then that would be a benefit.

From: 3Ring Binder he told you, he made it for himself because HE thought it was cool. he doesn't care if anyone else thinks it's cool or not. I do care, I'm happier if other people find my stuff cool, but I wouldn't be making it if I didn't find it cool and worth having first. And, you know, it turns out that's a pretty good way to make stuff other people find cool as well.

Gee, I wonder what would happen if you had a conversation with someone, and expected no benefits from them....and could continue the conversation relaxed, comfortable in the fact that they have no expectations of benefits from you. Ever tried that?

Ever tried that? I think we're talking at cross purposes over the degree of "benefits". If you enjoy conversing with someone, that's a benefit, by my definition. If there's anything about that conversation that makes you want to continue it, you're benefitting somehow.

From: Dekka Raymaker He said "it's all in your head" and I said "so's everything". But if that's your point of view, why not just do it in your head? Just imagine flying? It doesn't cost anything, doesn't take hours of work with an awkward build tool, and is no less real.

From: Argent Stonecutter All I can say is the plane is *still* cool to me, and one of the things that makes it cool is that I know every part of the script and can fix it and make it work better. It's like having a sports car where I built the engine and transmission and frame and everything myself, and I have an infinite toolbox to work on it with, and an ideal workshop to work on it in.
I see the flaws, but to me they're opportunities to improve it. Oh, sure, but most of the time when I see a flaw in something I've built I just have no idea how to correct it. I can try random things, but often they don't do the trick.

This is the real SL economy - how we spend our energy with people.
