So the only success in SL is altruism? The successful people don't enjoy themselves? Oh, or you're saying I should be altruistic when others don't have to..?

Yumi look up the concept of altruism.

I"ve never done anything in SL or RL because I expected someone to give me a reward. I do it because:

A) I think it's the right thing to do
B) I enjoy it
C) I have to (you know, some laws/social conventions you just have to follow, like, hmm, wearing clothes ;P)
D) I believe doing it can be of benefit to myself and/or others

That's really all the reasons. Of course a reward falls under D. I don't spurn rewards, Feel free to send rewards my way. But It's definitely not a primary motivator. If it was, I wouldn't have closed down a business making $50k a year. But to that decision, A and C came heavily into play.

Again.. I think you're considering a "reward" to be something more than I am.. if you make something, even if it's just because you feel satisfaction at having made it, that satisfaction is a reward. You had some involvement in the BDSM community as well as money, that was also a reward. For A), your feeling of high morality is a reward; for B) your enjoyment is one.

Okay, you're going to ignore my suggestion although it just might turn on a light switch.

So

Yumi, what do YOU find rewarding?

I just caught an episode from the 4th season of House. Wilson misdiagnosed some guy as having cancer, and when he told the guy that he wasn't dying, he was devastated. He'd sold his house, booked a trip to Europe, and had THREE going away parties... and now he owed $6000 in commission on a house he couldn't sell after all, and he sued Wilson because he'd gotten used to NOT BEING BORING because he was dying.

I couldn't understand your suggestion. How can you inspire a reader who doesn't exist?

I just laugh out loud when you say you have no idea what I want, because it shows that in spite of all the claims about how hard you've tried, you didn't even read my profile.

Dear, I don't read ANYONE'S profile, except for creator picks when I'm tracking down a product.

And that was a complete nonsequiter.

And ferret pics aren't? :)

It's just people keep asking me why I don't respond to these threads, and it's that while people are happy to offer me shoulders to cry on and I'm grateful for that, a world where thY is all I get is not very inspiring.

OK, I looked at your profile, and I had to go digging around in your groups to see what you're talking about, it's not obvious, and there's NO WAY I'd have found it if I hadn't been told it was there. Unless you put something on your 1st life tab. I won't look there.

So.. Now that you know this, which you say you have wanted to know for so long, do you have any advice other than your comment that it was hard to find?

Please try not to humiliate me too much *blush*

If you don't want to discuss it on the forums, I won't breach your containment field other than to say that you're trying to accomplish something a couple of orders of magnitude harder than finding people who think nibbling toes is cute.

If you can't find anything else you want to do in SL that you think is actually "cool", then that's your problem right there. If you can't get interested in anything less magical, well, maybe SL just isn't for you.

i also don't, unless asked to. i read people by their words at the moment, not by some well thought out diatribe that's only intended to 'create' an image that's probably false anyway.

Plus, SL doesn't come with an "Unsee" button.

That would be so useful! Especially if it wasn't just profiles either. If only I could unsee some of these really fuggly builds or if the prudes could just unsee things that didn't want to have seen. (even if I think they secretely going looking for it because they really do want to peek.)

I should add this to my future self post... only in reverse.. give a note to my future self next time they visit "now that time travel is figured out.. invent unsee button."

And DO NOT search Google Images for the word "unsee". Just... don't.
