From: Feline Slade This would help the G-team triage the incoming queue more effectively. Handling ARs in a timely manner is certainly something that's a laudable goal. Maybe, I'd imagine that the categories are based on AR's they receive, I wonder if some of the categories will actually be actioned or whether they're a black hole.

Perhaps as a last step they will rename Abuse Report to Problem Report or Issue Report, then some of the categories might make a little more sense.

I think Kitty and Arch are on to something here. There are categories of abuse reports listed that LL has no intention of doing anything about, but they include them so people can self-select them to go straight to the circular file instead of having a LL staffer waste their time sorting them out manually. Of course, they won't tell us which ones they aren't going to do anything about, because that would defeat the purpose.
I've had so many valid abuse reports completely ignored that I'm pretty certain that these new categories won't result in any additional disciplinary actions being taken against residents. They're just trying to make their jobs easier, and being able to send some categories of ARs straight to the file dump will help them lots.

Necessary Additions for a Proper Nanny State
08-25-2008 10:47
Age > wearing short skirts if you're over 40
Assault > shouting "WOOT"
Commerce > selling skirts that are too large
Disclosure > talking about boys in chat
Disturbing the peace > wearing bling
Fraud > charging 'too much' for a ham sandwich
Harassment > doing anything that someone else does not like
Indecency > hugging in public
So, have fun, boys and girls, and remember: "Your World. Your Imagination."

"Harassment > Advert farms / visual spam" Watch out add farmers!
Of course this is in the Beta Release, and these new features may or may not make it to the Release Candidate, which may or may not make it to an Official Version.

You can mute noisy objects/people and turn off lights
08-25-2008 11:06
From: Holocluck Henly So why after over a week am I hearing those yelling chairs? Hmmmmm? Simply right-click on an object and choose Mute from the pie menu. You can also turn off local lights if you wish (Edit-Preferences-Graphics).

Camping and Bots Abuse....
08-25-2008 11:59
That list was quite impressive, but missing a few catagories....what about:
-having so many camping items and hogging up the whole sim -placing your 'bots' all over on other's property
In my oppinion they should totally BAN camping and bots...all they do is cause lag, not to mention it's cheating!
Anyone else feel the same way?

There are some people who prefer to AR first, ask questions later, and instead of working with people to resolve issues like non-delivery, they will scream and threaten you with ARs. Straight to the circular file is exactly where it should go.

If it's meant to grief than it falls under Harassment (and looking at the list there doesn't actually seem to be a category for general harassment; "Impeding movement" doesn't seem like a great fit for things like orbitting or particle/prim/sound griefing either)

This is excellent. I'm a damn fan. I especially like the ones that start with the word "fraud". I have no less than three candidates for those categories right now.

It's certainly not 'cheating', since you'd have to break a rule to cheat. Lots of newbies camp for the lindens, and thats perfectly fine. But, I agree in banning bots. I'd be perfectly happy with every ava on the grid being piloted by a human.

From: Gunter Gustav I only wonder what that means : Land > Encroachment > Trees/plants ??? That means that a tree or plant on somebody else's land is hanging over your land. I've only ever had the problem with Governor Linden (way back, a Linden removed some weeds from a Linden railroad right of way next to my house), but it can also happen between residents.

Perhaps the purpose of this is in part information gathering; LL is trying to assemble statistics about how common the various kinds of abuse are. And yes, the categories are a form of triage; some categories require immediate response even to a single report (notably the ones involving underage residents and the ones about attacks on the grid); others allow more time for response, or only warrant investigation if there is a pattern of abuse by a resident.

From: Marianne McCann "... anyone know know a decent avenue for trying to get that first category altered? Who should I pester? If there's a discrepancy between the abuse categories and the ToS (and I'll agree that this seems to be the case) in a particular version of the client, then I think the first step would be to create an entry in the pJIRA ( http://jira.secondlife.com) against that version of the client. Having the pJIRA entry as a reference, you could then go to the Wednesday GTeam meeting in Kremer sim (10am SL time) and make the GTeam aware of the issue. The GTeam can then confirm (or not) that there is indeed a discrepancy, and if so, they can point the devs at the pJIRA entry and get the ball rolling to have things corrected. Just my take on things, of course... good luck!

What I mean is, new people come in and discover a bunch of zombies. Who look to them just like regular people. Bad for retention, bad for morale. coco

*bump* The categories are meant to represent actual AR'able offense, but it's still under review/in progress. Things that are essentially resident-resident disputes (like "Commerce > Failure to deliver product or service" will be reviewed and removed so there's no actual change in policy there. A JIRA on it would help too (if there isn't one about it already by now), or about the categories in general. (Not a literal quote of what was said, just my own rephrasing of the answer)
