From: Czari Zenovka I am spending some quiet time with my partner. Yes, I *could* politely tell any friends who IM during that time that I am busy at the moment, but there are some who STILL say "Ok, but real quick...can you tell me where that (whatever) was you were wearing the other day." Simply don't reply to the second IM. You have told them you're busy, you don't need to repeat yourself. If they don't respect that, too bad on them.

Throwing another idea out there to see what you all think of it...
The way one of my friends deals with the whole "IM-while-busy" situation is - he does not uncheck people from his FL, but he just ignores IMs to which he chooses not to respond.
Question, especially to those who are proponents of "not hiding" - would this be less "offensive" to the IMer than unchecking online status when busy?
Truly curious here?

Thanks everyone for their comments. My view remains that if there is a feature I expect it to work or be disabled or to be informed of the lack of functionality. I know there are numerous ways to be seen if you try to hide. Anyone who wishes to can check in any number of ways, in fact more than are mentioned here. I don't want to hide, I also don't want to keep switching to an Alt (Av) If I'm busy, alone making a right cock up of building something or with a friend (no jokes please LOL ) then not to be pestered by people who want to talk and who ignore my ignoring them, I think reasonable. If this is not reasonable then what is the point of having a "busy" setting ? I seem to have read that there are ways of reporting or voting on issues such as this, can someone point me in the right direction to do this? Thanks

Rediculous bug that linden should have fixed long time ago in a far off land...... in a land where time forgot..
In all serious linden needs to stop spouting windlight this and that and finally fixed the stupid bugs like this first, if they don't sl won't last long cause all this piles up on a new user or existing.. I also consider this a total lack of privacy, If I do not want to be viewed online (at least simply on user list or group list) I should have that option. If someone hunts me down after the fact they are stalking.
Please linden fix this before windlight!!!

(Although you'd need to close each IM as it arrives since your busy message won't show again for subsequent IMs from the same person until you open and close the window)

I think that there are alot of people who simply don't understand. "Hi."...Heyya..."whassup"...sort've busy atm...."U Mad?"....No...."You laughing?"...No ,can't chat right now ...Busy..."Where are you?"...ok ((head explodes)) theres that person.. But then theres the other side where people feed into the whole stalker mentality. I want honesty. If you are busy I don't need to know what youre busy doing..just that you're too busy at the moment. On the same note remeber that street isn't one way. I know people who use that "Im busy" exscuse and turn into that other person when they want some of your time.THEY can be busy but god forbid you ever are. Don't ever treat your friends like hot and cold running water...they catch on quickly. So many different personalities...I've met people who were clingy but then realised they were being clingy and totally back off.((i've not seen them since)) Running a buisness in second life and allowing your creativity to rule you..makes having close friends very difficult unless they share like mindend ideas and goals. I usually tell people..if you want to be my friend, bug the crap out of me until I start getting used to you in my sl...Otherwise Im mired in my own thoughts ~Lana

defend your right to privacy

Some don't respect your online status whatsoever. It should be our individual right to go 'offline' and not have to answer to anyone. If you need me, message me, if i'm online, and not busy, i'll respond. Simple as that. I can't be on busy mode all the damn time, i have to hear things in chat (like at events) but i am technically busy! Take away the gadgets that see if you're online, take away the mapping function entirely (just TP the person if they need to be where you are!) and let the residents make the decision if they want to hold a conversation. Sometimes you can talk, sometimes you can't... Doesn't matter why or when it just is. Why does anyone need to know when someone last logged into a group? To clear out the weeds? That's ridiculous. The ability to camera into anywhere is also ridiculous. People who stalk with gadgets, get offended when you're busy, repeatedly message you when you clearly aren't responding, and use the loopholes like groups to find out your status are freaks. Thankfully we finally killed the blue online notifications, i can only hope they respond to our pleas regarding these issues. The best thing to do to anyone who doesn't respect your feelings, thoughts and private time inworld is to mute them after you've explained your position. This one 'simple' issue makes for too many head and heartaches!!! /me walks away disgusted at LL
