From: Maggie McArdle sooo.. its a bad thing when you smell baked virginia ham? is it a bad thing that I originally read your post as containing a similar word to "Virginia" and wondered how any woman could fit a ham up in there before I realized my mistake? edit: Just to keep this post from being entirely worthless, here's a serious answer to Brenda's question. I think the deal is that electricity travels at different resistance rates through different tissues. In order to determine your body fat, they run a low level current through you and measure the resistance it meets. They use that to calculate the amount of fat in the tissue. I don't know how they account for the different bone masses, muscle tissues, organs, etc. that all presumably have their own rates of resistance, but presumably the formula they use takes that into account somehow. That's it in a nutshell.

From: Malia Writer Tell them to go play with their Barbie dolls... I spent forever getting my avie to look real, but she is still slimmer than the RL me because it bugs me when poses/animations don't work with my shape. If I ever get round to figuring out how to make animations, I am gonna make some that are plus-friendly! (Judging by the recent threads popping up here and on SLX, maybe I should hurry up...) So happy to hear other women RL sized avies speaking up here! **wave** Jenni waves back: OH! yes yes, if you are so inclined and able to , we need some/ more plus-size animations in SL!!!

From: Elora Lunasea This was interesting to look at. Body Thickness 16% Body Fat 10% HOWEVER - My height is VERY short, only 19%, so even tho the body thickness and fat percentages sound very low, if you look at me I do NOT look thin at all. In fact, I look what I consider rather healthy, and when I looked at my "belly" setting, was surprised to see it at 19%. My av's body looks "average" for a short women who looks like she takes care of herself by being active, but not overdoing it. And, is someone who doesn't obsess about how much she eats I have nice curves, not overdone and I'm nicely proportioned. I have pix on Flickr, some semi-nude (darn close) to show what I'm talking about. Mac has seen them, so he'd be a good judge if I'm telling the truth. Wish I had a slider in RL Just looked at your Flickr photos and your avi looks great!!! I've been thinking of adding a bit more "curves and padding" to my avi. When I checked out what my "numbers" were after reading this thread...wowza...it would sound like I'm really chubby...but those who have seen my avi can attest it's not. It must all be in the combination of the way the sliders come together, not just pure numbers.

Went back several times tweaking it over the months I've been here, but haven't touched her for quite a while now. I like that she looks sort of "soft" in some places (her stomach), touchable. I remember in the movie Pulp Fiction, there is a conversation Bruce Willis's character is having with his French wife (who does not have a good grasp of English) where she is saying how she wants a "pot"; refering to a pot belly She thinks it's sexy, feminine. I always enjoyed that small aside, because it was such a different view of what most American's think of the perfect female body these days and, fit more into what my RL physique is. This stuck with me when I was creating my Av. Most especially after seeing how many "sticks" were running around. I made a specific point to create something more in tune with what I thought was "realistic".

I find that zero body fat makes the waist-hip junction look funky. Funky bad, that is. Just moving it up to 3 or so makes it look less unnaturally abrupt.
