Greece is still part of Europe but I don't use a different alphabet. Pep (I think you may be talking about all those mongrel immigrants, a bit like your place.) Scotland is mostly free, Ireland is mostly free. Wales stays around to kiss the foot of the English Queen. _____________________

ROI is free. We are not part of Britain. Yes, but ROI is only PART of Ireland, technically... Although to be fair, everyone calls us "Americans" when our country only takes up part of North America, so I guess it's just one of those weird sociological idiosyncrasies. _____________________

Although to be fair, everyone calls us "Americans" when our country only takes up part of North America, so I guess it's just one of those weird sociological idiosyncrasies. The North is a fraction of the uppermost part of the island and they have the right to ROI citizenship. A lot of the Shinners speak better Irish than the Kerrymen, however the Republic of Ireland *is* Ireland. The North is the North. I think North America is actually Americans and Canadians, but what do I know. _____________________

Also, some residents think if you take a screenshot of their AV, you steal their soul. Awesome. I was just reviewing some old SL photos today, and there was one from one of the first Forum Cartel gatherings. I own you Chris Norse. You dancing fool, you. ![]() |

Yeah - remember the ones from Hong Kong who had the assignment of running a business in SL? I still don't think that was a school project. To the OP, I'll try to answer the questions after you've been in the world for about a month. Best way to find the unwritten rules is to observe. But maybe this will help clue you in on what SL is like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFS4l5B547s _____________________

Sorry. For some odd reason I was feeling particularly helpful. ...they are apparently allowed to wish a lingering painful death by cancer upon you in a foulmouthed fashion . . . Pep ( . . . and their friends then can agree you deserved it.) _____________________

That you seem to have carefully constructed your forum persona with the very goal of eliciting such a response, even. Pep (Or are there others that think the same way?) _____________________

Hi everyone, we are students of social anthropology and we're working on a research project concerning nettiquette in SL. We would like to ask you, if you consciously follow certain rules or specific manners or etiquettes in SL? We are especially interested in rules, which are not written in the terms of agreement of Linden Labs. Thank you for your inputs! - cu in SL - Your kinda looking for customs rather than rules. Etiquettes are fast changing and fly-by-night meaningless topsies. Customs. That's teh deeper stuff. I don't think we have any. _____________________

Speaking of that little ball of yarn, when is your computer arriving? And where were Syclla and Deira today?! I had to shoot the family portraits for the Christmas cards all by myself, ended up in Jig's tarty little outfit and accidentally melted the snowman. Have a look and tell me when you think the lot of you can turn up on time and all of us properly attired because there is no way today's photos can be sent to 'Uncle' Des. ![]() I was very busy making demure, anthropological, photo' poses - suitable for the official Christmas card. _____________________

Oh dear. Irie, I don't know how long you and your fellow students have actually been in SL, but I need to warn you that residents generally don't take well to people who have spent very little time in-world to discover it for themselves asking questions like the ones you ask. Have you done any actual in-world research on this? Are you interacting as much as possible, doing "field work" rather than merely coming here with a request that we do your work for you? We longer-term residents do tend to feel a bit like lab rats sometimes, and sometimes respond accordingly. So while I appreciate your earnestness, honesty, and good intentions, I have to warn you that you will probably get a negative response here. Personally, I blame the profs, who are sending students here like so much cannon-fodder, without ever having visited it themselves. If you have done anything like extensive field work in-world, I strongly suggest that you indicate it here now, or you will be badly flamed. ETA: You might consider joining the SL Educators (SLED) list, and asking your questions there. They tend to be more tolerant of this sort of thing: Yeah we get a bit paranoid of new people studying us ![]() _____________________
