Promotion ideas?

Ads, T shirts, giveaways, group charter, articles in SL newspapers/magazines, picks pages as someone said...

You could give away a box of ecologically oriented freebies at various places in-world. Just because some of those trees/plants are widely distributed freebies already, shouldn't matter...not everyone runs across them. And you could ask people to make custom items for it as well. Like maybe, prim recycling bins. I dunno.

(Put a note card or promotional material in the freebie pack or something, of course. And your name on the folder.)

I was thinking the same thing Mari! lol It's a halloween treat that this thread came back from the dead :D

Yes... sadly the VPRS is no longer and has been out of existence for almost a year now. But thanks for the enthusiastic ideas :D I wish you the best of luck with your locations!

Drop me an LM in-world :D I'd love to check out your place!

Ya know... I'm not so sure there isn't a real need for something like this again... some sort of "People's Showcase" of visit-worthy, non-commercial locations. Or sightseeing tour pathways across continents.

Heck, just a list of landmark locations to historic Linden builds would be of interest--I think to a lot of folks, if we could devise the right distribution.

Or am I just too much a maudlin Mainlander?

Well, you know I'd be all over that!I tend t'hunt those up. FWIW, I've already done a couple "with friends" blimp tours of historic mainland.

(yes, the blimp. Always with th' blimp...)

Or you could start a list of Blogs that do this already, e.g. http://npirl.blogspot.com/

Oh sorry I missed the word 'Historic', this Blog covers the new.

Question on Land Donation
10-29-2008 09:35
Hi, Higbee!

This has perhaps been answered but I haven't yet read through the entire thread:

I need to tier down and have a 1536 parcel of land on a pretty, thus far unpolluted mainland sim. My main concern is that someone not purchase it who will be a landflipper or cutter and will instead respect the sim.

Does the organization still take donations and, if so, is 1536 too large? Then what is done with the land?

I would be interested in speaking with you.

Thanks so much :)

(The SLURL is in my sig)

This was my favorite group and I would absolutely love to see it come back! The kiosks and freebie things like the outdoor camping pack were nice as well.

I have just started a list of locales on our Kahruvel web site that will probably be addressing some of this...

http://web.mac.com/salazarjack/Site/Locales.html

There will probably be an inworld representation of that list as well, like the pictures that currently hang on the wall at Cafe Jack. Perhaps we can incorporate something like this into our gini device as a take away.

And of course, there's always the "SL Things to Do" inworld group. I thought they would spam my alt with gigundoid notecards filled with slurls to places I already knew, but actually their once-a-week or so reviews of a single cool locale have surprised me. Once a week is about how often I can go randomly exploring, and I've not been to over half of what they've recommended.

Well the 4 main reasons it poofed in the first place were:

1) so many other groups doing the same type of thing and no hope of uniting them (believe me I tried)
2) the new search makes finding places like these really easy
3) oversight and maintenance for something this encompassing requires so much time and energy that I just didn't have enough to spare anymore; even with the high-level of automation I had implemented by the end of its existence
4) a list like this ultimately makes a judgement call: who is allowed to be on here and why, and who makes that decision and why - with SL being such an open format for personal expression, I ultimately didn't feel that it was right to place restrictions on that. The caveat being that if anyone can list their location on there, then it's just another way to search. This was the largest conundrum of all.

Unfortunately that's the simplest way of stating what turned out to be some very complex issues. If someone wants to try something like this, I am happy to supply any materials that I can to help out aside from VPRS logos and branding materials.

It's possible that my vision was so outdated that it was the ultimate demise for the organization, but even my successor ran into these same exact issues.

I will say this however... I am retooling the camping gear as we speak, in order to improve the script communication and functions, but I will be offering it without VPRS logos and branding. It will be a freebie available from my store locations just like the rest of the past VPRS items like the Greenspace Startup kit.

< advertising of inworld stuff >
WOW - did you figure that if you posted this in a thread that was originally started over 2 years ago, it might make your advertising not quite as spammy?

Advertising once.. fine. Twice, not cool. Three times, reported as spam.

Next time, just put it in your sig like the rest of us..

Do what you want? I am just opening my forest for others to enjoy, the more that know the better, surely you would support open green spaces otherwise you wouldnt be reading this thread. Sadly many spaces die a death after a few months as tier kicks in or owners get bored. Hardly money spinners are they trees and lakes. I have enjoyed my space and now wish to allow others to do so too. If that is spam then report me all you want. De-motivate another park owner.
