Hello everyone! My name is Higbee Protagonist and I have been around SL for a very long time. I started the SL Parks and Recreation Service in order to help residents find excellent recreational and greenspace locations to visit Admittedly I have been out of the loop a bit over the last 2 years as I did some secret work on an estate for a time and then took a break. However, I have been back for about a month and have gotten in contact with several people in order to start moving forward again with the Park Service. As the world has grown so massive, it has become very difficult to keep up with locations disappearing, moving, reappearing, etc. I have made some moves in order to help this process, but I am still having a grand difficulty getting Residents to utilize this completely free service. I could use some help! I would love to hear your advice on how to get the word out, how to improve the website so it is as comprehensive as possible, and how to further our ability to help our registered locations Website: http://www.gabrielguyer.com/slparksandrec **NOTE: We have in-world kiosks (newest version just realeased today), a website, and are now taking in registered location owners to the main group in order to offer donations to the group to help support GreenSpace owners. There are many other details, but I would just like to hear your thoughts thus far!

Hi Higbee! I sold all of my parkland and am now living on a little plot of land, with trees of course. I have no suggestions for you. It seems that most of the people in SL are devoted to malls, ugly clubs and other trashy looking things. I gave up a while ago.

Conservation groups need to unite as a common cause and be vocal.
Ill mention the Arbor project as one...
Do you have a SURL for you main location, or can all the info be found at a kiosk?

I'm sorry to hear that Susie I think part of the problem is exactly what you are mentioning Avacea...too much separation. If we can get all of these groups to unite, I think we have a better chance of keeping the community informed about these places and a better chance of helping each other survive. Perhaps even the potential to have our own regions filled with greenspace like Salazar Jack and his forest. I think the potential is there, it just needs to be tapped. I will most certainly contact the Arbor group directly...my thanks There is an in-world location for the SLPRS in West Helsen. It is not complete as I just moved us there, it is basically just a park with a kiosk and a sign that says it is home. I am planning on puttin out lots more information however, to teach about the trees and to help it become more of a hub for GreenSpace activity. any suggestions of this type are also welcome EDIT: To answer the question tho, Yes the kiosks are able to give all of the registry info and tools by themselves. Submissions must use the website tho. We have been relying a lot on word-of mouth advertising over the last 4 years, but I feel that we need a little bit more. Perhaps this discusion thread will help. I can't be sure, but I would like to have some events too...park visits as a group, Osprey has suggested maybe overnight camping trips where stories are told, teaching newbs how to make plants, etc. What are some other types of events and community-wide happenings that we could make happen?

I'm a little surprised that you don't have Svarga listed on the site.

Welcome Back, Higbee!
lemme talk with Robin an Pygar, an see if maybe Livingtree can join up -- cuz judging from the guidelines, we do fit.
(Update: I've submitted Livingtree to the site)

I am going to check out the new places that you have all suggested today. I would have done it last night, but I am still in process of going through everything that is already listed and making sure that it still exists. I have found that places disappearing is one of the larger issues we do not get informed about, which in turn distresses people who try to use the service and go somewhere that doesn't exist anymore. This is all very excellent help thus far, and I appreciate the response. Again any suggestions about our methodology would be helpful as well, unless you think we are doing everything that can already be done.

Also FYI, I am trying to have everyone resubmit to the website, so we can have updated images and information for all locations as well as collect email addresses for everyone involved. This way I can get the self-editing part of the registry complete. Should make it an easier process all around once complete.

Great idea, and I enjoyed looking at the website. I'm in the process of putting together a bit of wilderness that will definitely have hiking, and some other outdoor activities, including hunting. Please IM me in world if you'd like to come by and check it out; I could always use some advice!
From what I can tell from your website, I put a two-prin kiosk in my wilderness, and this gets me onto your registry--sort of like having a "National Trust" site? This, in turn, probably brings more residents to visit? Have I got this right? This is sort of a volunteer support group for not-for-profit landowners.
At any rate, I'll try to touch base with you in-game. I have a few questions. All in all, though, one of the best ideas I've seen in SL!
Thanks!

LOL I would love to check out your place Klang I'll IM you a little later today for certain. Essentially what you are saying is correct. Putting out a kiosk is not required but it is preferred because it helps to support everyone on the registry and helps get the word out to the community as a whole All you have to do really tho is register on the website and you're in!

Hi Higbee, I have just submitted our location "The Backwoods, Urbane" and registered on your site, and requested a kiosk. Very nice website! Good luck in gathering more info on parks inside SL. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! Xaria

Oh, ummm... I set out a kiosk this morning on a parcel that's certainly not parkland (and only *unintentionally* non-profit ). I meant to just promote the SLP&RS idea but... are the kiosks really only meant to be placed on park sites?

No no Not at all! If you support us and want to offer our info to other residents from your land then I could not be more appreciative. Just because it isn't registered land doesn't mean you can't use a kiosk! Kiosks are for everyone to spread throughout SL

I have a small park (1024 sq m) in the middle of Yosu sim underneath my club pod, which is up above 500m. But I think what a lot of people might appreciate is large open spaces (1 sim or more) to wander, chat or play hide and seek (no cheating with mini maps)!

Hide and seek, hadn't thought of that! btw--about 70 percent of my sim is wilderness, albeit still under development. It's fantastic having that feeling of the outdoors!
