Removed from Mentor Group?

I have been a Mentor for a long long time. I own the Free Dove and Mentor lots of new people there.

Why Do I get removed just like that?

I didn't see any questionare or anything like that.

I have been in SL since 2004 and been in that group for a while.

Someone explain.

They considered our services no longer needed. And we were thrown away.
Got to make room for some properly indoctrinated people, ya know?
They didn't even have the decency to even send an e-mail that explained anything, just some random no-reply jibber jabber that made no sense to me.

It's a procedural thing, seems to have been an effort to remove inactive mentors from the group. LL required mentors to get in touch, fill out a form, if they still wanted to participate. A LOT of folks missed this notification, are are distressed at their removal. This thread has more discussion on it, including some pointers to notifications that others received.

LL's current story is that mentors who want to re-up will have to reapply when applications are again open (they are not currently). However, this action has been so ill-executed that LL really should do something to get mentors back in the group; the more people who show up to protest at office hours etc., the better.

(By the way, Palomma, I was just looking up your profile yesterday, trying to remember the name of a sim that I think you were involved with ... it was a mall in a Grecian/ancient ruin. They taught classes there as well. Does this ring a bell?)

I used to own Peristeri Mall where newbies used to teleport from Free Dove. It was Grecian, I used to have a small learning center there with a few teachers. )

Still no response from anyone from the Vteam Someone posted some parts of a meeting where the VTeam Staff gleefully talked about making the group smaller by putting this badly advertised policy in place.













But we are being punished because of the VTeam's inability to9 foresee that enrolling the greeters and instructors into the Mentor Group AND recruiting hundreds more in 2007 was bad planning.

Robin Linden came back from vacation on Oct 10th. Hopefully we can get this sorted very soon. I offered to send the e-mails to the Mentors to see who truly wants to continue volunteering.

They can tell by the readership numbers of the VTeam blog that all 3,700 Mentor Members were not reading it regularly. And if 3,700 mentors attempted to attend Mentor meetings they would need to rez 30 sims to accommodate. Also the last log-in date is visible to all Mentor Group Members within the group. Trying to make contact with those that have not logged on in months would have efficiently lowered numbers without resorting to these tactics.

Hey Brianna... I am always around. Just a bit disappointed I got kicked out from the Mentor's group.

I would of definitely renew my mentor's application. I give that priority but, I didn't get anything. I thought everything was fine.

I was mentoring more at my Free Dove location and occasion went to the Help Island. Especially when they called for Spanish speaking mentors.

If I hear again I can apply I will try to apply and go to the process again. I remember it took a while for them to see the application.

Lindens know about my work, I just don't understand. Not only that, I have been in SL almost a bit after beta closed, so I am one of the oldest and guess they didn't need me in the group anymore

I am sorry, but I was proud of my tag. I know is just a tag but, meant a lot to me. But whatever, I accept whatever or however they want to processed. But cool.

When will they be taking applications again and when will the Greeters group be taking applications?

It is a sad day when people like Palomma are ejected without warning from the mentors. It is also a refection on LL that whoever executed this policy obviously spends little time on-line or they would be well aware the group messages fail to reach the intended members regularly. I’ll not bother re-applying, I can find more than enough new residents needing help just by being near the money tree on my parcel. Anyway, some of the self appointed police in that group were getting on my nerves!

I decided not to re apply. So, good.. I will have a new group space. It is not worth to re apply and go thru it again since it was difficult at that time and I went thru a lot to get into the group, and now they just removed me without any reasons? Forget that. Not worth my time.

Anyway, the spamming was terrible lol

From what I understand from the chatlogs from the meetings - the idea is to just say they will be opening up applications and then just never do it.

I applied to join mentors when I was in SL only 5 months, when you had to be at least 6mo's to join. When I hit 6mo's to the day my application went in again.

I have been a mentor for a little under 2 years.

In that time I have sometimes become disillusioned with certain fellow mentors, and sometimes with Linden Labs. I had almost quit a few times over that time.

The way I see it, Palomma, it is their loss. We can do good in so many other ways. There are many organizations that take it as thier mission to help the new resident.

What I think you have to remember is to not let it affect the good that you do.

I believe that by cutting so many of the more experienced mentors, Linden labs is actually cutting off those of us that remember the growing pains of SL's rapid growth. Whats left will be mostly the ones that dont know the history.

Whether by design or not, I dont know.

Yes, you are right... Lots of history behind us the ones that really saw the group growing and SL growing. We were there from the beginning helping. That is why probably we didn't have the time to maybe drop on busy areas to meet other mentors when they had meetings but we have been there always continuing working hard.

I was still stopping on occasion to many of the help islands and helping and bringing them to the Free Dove. But you know what I saw the most now? That people were just standing there and not really helping as much as we did back then. I started seeing many new mentors in their chillin AO's and expensive designer outfits occasionally saying hello if they remembered where they were because many of them were away.

And not only that.. on three occasion I made three new avatars and nobody but nobody, no mentor to find around to offer help. I did it on purpose to see how a newbie would feel these days.

Funny thing I have been there always helping and I am the one like many of you that got cut off...

But whatever.. if that what they want to do, ok... I just keep doing my job behind scenes and keep helping those that need it.

Free Dove now has been well known, tons of new things and new looks and designers love to help new residents via this Free Dove avenue.

It was not for "no reason". As explained in an email by Blue Linden, LL felt that Mentors should demonstrate a certain level of "connectedness" to the Mentor group, in order to insure that the group could be reliably informed and directed.

However, the cut WAS large, much larger than I would have thought. From over 3,000 Mentors, we have been cut down to 1,700.

That's pretty draconian.

No Valid reason Linda. One does not prove one connectedness by being lucky enough to not have their IMs capped and receive the group notice. I am connected to the regular Mentor thread in these forums - as are many of the older Mentors. Just because the new trend is to read yet another outside blog (that was only made apart of the orientation package of the new Mentors) does not mean that the rest are not connected to what they do. And there was absolutely no reason that the information was not posted here as a sticky. This is a MAJOR change (like the adfarming mainland zoning policy) and it effected (adversley, for many) nearly 4000 residents.

I am amazed they have the gall to continue cutting people based on this policy after all of the complaints that have come in. They refuse to discuss it or make any adjustments - just to lessen their workload - due to a problem they created. And as I have stated - the greeters could have become the greeters again, the instructors could have been made Mentor Instructors and all three volunteer groups would have been manageable. I do not think manageability was the main goal of the VTeam when they put this scheme together. So there may be a reason - but not one that will be publicly admitted to.

For a company so worried about retention and the new player experience, this is pretty surprising.

The onus was on LL to get in touch with us and not the other way around.


Kicking people out who were helping new players in whatever capacity they could and then turning around and saying "you didn't get the memo?" is completely lame.

OK, this is irresistible. Here's a definition of one term:
Jumpy is saying that he thinks Amber Linden is great, because he was at her office hour with a friend and Amber tried to help his friend, who freaked out. She also put up with Jumpy throwing his weight around while she was gone.

It is possible that, at the office hour, Jumpy was speaking the rather sedate english that he often uses when one encounters him inworld. Or perhaps in another av altogether.
