You may be interested in this comment made by Robin Linden concerning the resell of items that were meant to be free to the community:

/108/8a/74022/15.html#post769512/108/8a/74022/15.html#post769512

btw, that thread was locked afterwards, as I expect this one will be soon.

what exactly is your point? people have said that the practice is unethical, and that there are also copyright issues involved. just because the tools are not available to prevent this in SL does not mean the practice should continue. hopefully it will hasten the development of tools such as a no-resale option.

I can attest to the veracity of the helicopter claim. I saw the very same helicopter and recognized it as being a chopper leaked and stolen from a very talented person who has visited us at Nexus Prime now and again. It is on sale at Bergman's store.

I think you'd better learn a bit more about business, Jamie. This isn't the real world and this isn't retail. You're not dealing with real objects. You're dishonestly reselling intellectual property that does not belong to you and to which you have no licensed rights. This is a violation of United States copyright law as well as international copyright law as provided by the Berne Convention.

You're about as high on the capitalist ladder as the shady guy on Canal St. selling pirated copies of newly-released Hollywood flicks. You misunderstand the root and value of capitalism. Your business is one of parasitism and it galls me to no end that you tout yourself as any sort of "leading mind," economic or otherwise.

The Lindens have already ruled on cases similar to this.... so just simmer down, y'all.

Did you try to resell Starbucks their cup back when you were done?

Yep, they basically said people like you are slime and they are trying to change SL so that bull like you try to pull is no longer possible.

In a captalist society, it's okay to resell the things you've gotten or purchased, yes.

But in the real world, you only get a set number of those things. If you buy wholesale, and sell above wholesale, that's usually alright, because both make a profit.

If you take and sell something en mass, that you reproduced, it's called copyright and patent theft. That will earn you a lawsuit.

While many things are allowed, it doesn't make it right.

Anya, I wasn't making any point other to bring to the discussion that there is no current TOS violation that you or ANYONE can appeal too. Where isolating Ms. Bergman may set a notable example in the forums, it does nothing toward the many, many, many folks out there that do this in thier own little shops, etc.

Perhaps a more proactive approach is to do just what Robin said needed done, and you again repeated. Continue to beat on Linden Labs to improve the permission system that allows for transfer but not for resell. That has a far greater impact on the whole community then continueing a drama thread that will in fact be locked as per the recent thread that the above link came from.

And yes, as someone that was told by a customer that they had a script to break my no transfer permission, I take this kind of thing equally as serious. If Ms. Bergman has used an exploit to steal a no copy item you have created, by all means report to the Lindens and get it removed from SL. I imagine there are a lot of folks that have been stolen from due to Linden bugs and exploits that would cheer you on..me included.

Well, you are an upstanding SL citizen. In fact, you were very nice to GiveMe Liberty, so it saddens me that you are upset :(

I think to be truthful in your advertising you should ammend that to notify your customers that they are based on existing, FREE designs.

I think this is called stabbing @ people just as u did with Simmy. as for upstanding SL citizen... gimmeh a break. You prolly went from selling freebies from 'door to door' to setting up yer lil pawnshop. point of this whole thread is that its damn wrong to make profit of that whats ment to be free.

As for the post that Robin Linden made, he indeed says that its unstoppable but by no means agrees with this kind of behaviour. like.. so many people as you may have noticed.

oh, model citizen.. part.. where does the person that gets a gift and sells it afterward go on the 'model citizen' ladder in your opinion?

Wow, so she also pretended to be a new person to SL and people were kind enough to spend their time helping her. That's also pretty damn deceptive of her, for people could have been helping a real new person. I wish I was that classy...

*coughs* or any sandbox... orrrr EC's freeb box...

anyway, stolen u might not.. but stuff that got leaked isnt something for you to merrily go sell in your store. and cheap? gimmeh a break. not only am i considering a 500L leaked item that unfortunatly went 'freeb' uber expensive, the other items arnt really nicely priced either, definatly not considering how theyre put together -.-

(aka freeb+freeb = 750L$)

Milton Friedman (a "Chicago School" Nobel Prize winning ECONOMIST and a firm believer in unrestricted free market CAPITALISM) made clear in his article, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Profits, a business should not engage in "deception or fraud" while attempting to increase profit.

you stole my old noobie nuke from when i first came to second-life, people can buy the real one on SLE and in the spacemonkey shop in jessie. as for the one you've been selling since before 1.3 you can keep it, it's highly outdated and the lindens have ignored my pvp reports against you, as they ignored winters reports when her bullet showed up in your shop weeks before she HAD to make it public domain, due to your bulk selling of her technology. so, lets lookat how your second-life add's up shall we? you dont spend hours making the creations you sell, you reap benefits from extortion and petty theivery .. so the question is...why are you still here?

Angel2's logic is flawed.

I work in radio. Everything we produce at our studios, is produced at great expense to our owners and although it is provided to the "enjoyment of the listeners" for "free", it does not suggest that each of our community citizens has any implied rights of copy.

What part of "without the expressed written consent" do you not understand? Or are you simply satisfied that the Lindens have given you a license to steal?

Be grateful you didn't steal anything I created, because I would not think twice about having you sued.

Try copying music from the radio and selling it. How long do you think it would take the RIAA to file paper on you?

How does one justify taking a freebie item and selling it for one's own profit to newbs?
