It would also be brilliant to have some choice over whether or not to automatically reposition the camera in Appearance mode.

The more the interface behaves "modelessly" the better. It would be nice, for instance, to be able to optionally choose to position the camera, then enter Appearance mode, and have the camera stay where one has put it. It would be a huge help to avatar stylists, clothing designers, prim-avatar builders, etc. It would be lovely to be able to choose zoom targets other than one's own avatar while in Appearance mode also.

Off-topic, but I used to think Appearance must be horribly bandwidth-limited. I've been running bmon while on SL lately and discover that this is not, in fact, the case. Appearance might therefore be CPU-, GPU-, and/or memory- limited. It is in any case extraordinarily pokey, especially when "fancy" options such as shiny objects and bump- and cloth-mapping are enabled. It would be wonderful to see it perform a bit better.

Although I agree 110% that Changing the camera in edit, "especially on exit" Is annoying.

Hows about Just having FIXED camera presets, Such as "ESC" behind avatar, and other keys to get say,, TOP not just overhead But a directly strait down view of whatever your targeting.
Left front rear side etc whatever.

And the camera NEVER changes from what youve told it to do, in other words, say your in Edit and you exit. Your view is still where you had it. You walk or fly, Your view stays where you had it. If you target a prim, or your avatar and it moves. The perspective will stay while the view moves, And Still dos not get changed by other controls like walking or exiting edit mode.

{edit} Took out some blabering.

*bump*

(yes, i'm back from the dead... again!)

so you're telling me we were promised a fix for this "in a near release" back in mid october, and we're now approaching mid february? four months a near release makes not.

i say make it a check box, and have that check box ONLY affect the camera as it's movement pertains to the edit window. other stuff complained about in this thread can have it's own fix or checkbox or whatever.

/me frowns

and this is REALLY frustrating when you're hopping back and forth on a 144-prim grid :p

They fixed it, for anyone who didn't notice, in 1.6.
