Tcoz posted a great workaround for this problem a while back. Here's what you do...
1. position your camera where you want it 2. hit ctrl-3 to bring up the edit dialogue 3. click the object you want to edit.
The camera will stay where you had it to begin with. Thank you Tcoz!!

Yeah, but there's no way to go int and OUT of edit mode without the camera moving.
I'd just like to be able to attach my camera to a prim and leave it there...
llCaptureCamera( key player, vector offset, rotation direction ) llReleaseCamera() "Object 'Camera Platform' would like to take your camera. Do you allow this? (YES) (NO)"
You can then move your avatar, edit, or anything, and the camera stays where it is. If the object takes some of your controls as well, you could script it to move on command.
This would be great for making movies in SL, especially with your own avatar in the shot and a moving camera.
With this, I'd make a prim that will take or release my camera on command. And on another command, take my controls for a bit so I canmove it about, then release them.

I hate this feature. I don't want my camera doing anything on its own at all unless I hit esc to bring it back on my avatar. I agree.

For once I must agree with Aimee. Fix it, it's annoying.

I whole heartedly agree with, endorse, respond in the affirmative to, like, approve, stand behind, think happily upon, rubber stamp, give a big thumbs up to, am in harmony with, vote for, and want the implimentation of this suggestion. Did I mention it's a good idea?

ctrl-3 then click the object you want to edit. The camera won't move. Repeat it over and over again until it sticks.

From: someone Originally posted by Aimee Weber (and a thousand others) AN END TO CAMERA REPOSITIONING!!! This is the worst aspect of Second Life bar none. As far as UI "features" go, this is not one. It's one horrendous diabolical UI bug, designed to irritate everyone and lose customers out of sheer frustration. But I don't think that the Lindens are listening at all, or they'd have responded to this nightmare, even if it's just to say "We don't care, live with it". Does anyone have any means of attracting their attention to this issue?

Move "LEAVE MY CAMERA ALONE" to Feature Feedback?
09-10-2004 16:59
Maybe this thread should be in Feature Feedback. I get the feeling that they only look here when they have spare development time for something new ... which of course means never.

Obligatory *me too*. I created a nice, me-only workshop in my castle and this has made me want to cry. Otherwise, I'm well adjusted.

From: someone Originally posted by Morgaine Dinova Does anyone have any means of attracting their attention to this issue? Treat it like a bug, and bugreport it every single time you encounter it I would like this to be togglable though. I will agree with the "don't touch my camera unless I hit esc" group if and only if the behavior is togglable. I dont want to hit esc every few seconds to keep my camera on my avatar during flight or highspeed motion. ==Chris

From: someone Originally posted by Strife Onizuka i'm not totaly fond of this "feature" make it a checkbox setting in one of the menus. I wouldn't make it an option unless you can find someone, somewhere, who *likes* this feature. So far, no takers. Take it out. (That's what surprises me about this. I can understand the Lindens not wanting to change a feature that some like and some dislike, like auto-fly. But so far, the opinion on this is unanimous. Yet, despite requests dating back well over a year, the Lindens haven't budged, or even responded. What's up with that?)

There are times when i like how it re-centers the camera. But most of the time not. So in a way tiny way i do like this.

This feature is so completely non-helpful it boggles the mind why they implemented it in the first place. I have an object that I want to edit, I zoom in, right-click, edit...
... and suddenly I can't see what I'm trying to edit because the camera has rotated through a wall, and I can't see anything at all now.
Thanks. Yeah, that really helps.
