This is an excellent example of why I LIKE SLU. Aodhan and I had a pretty intense, several page discussion about issues on which we both disagreed, with a fair amount of passion, at least on my part. Not once did the discussion devolve into personal attacks or flame wars. We each presented our points and, finally, agreed to disagree. At no time did either us [I believe, I can't reallyspeak for Aodhan here] fear being locked down due to some capricious and arbitrary moderator.

Important issues, both in RL and SL are discused in SLU by intelligent, informed, passionate and [with the exception of me] funny people.

Forms cannot be a "one size fits all" proposition. Some fit; others do not. SLU fits me. It may not fit you. My advice, if it doesn't fit, move on and find something that does. Just because YOU don't like a particular forum does not mean that others should not like it.

All newcomers are welcome. Naturally if you start into personal attacks against others or hate filed speech, you will have problems.

I like it, but I realize its not perfect for everyone.

You are right you can moderate them however you want them, they are yours, but don't be surprised when people are not happy or don't agree. As I mentioned earlier if you want more people using your forums and to be able to trust them, you may want to find a better approach.

I want to get my post in before Strife comes by and (rightly so) locks it.

I'm relatively new to posting on forums. I came here first, and to SC 2nd. SC was slightly frightening to me. I admit it, I was overwhelmed & intimidated by the strong personalities there. But after it closed and I went to SLU, I was welcomed from my very first post. While the posting members at SLU have strong personalities, beliefs and bonds as well, they're open to all newcomers. It's basically a sink or swim environment, and if you don't have the cojones to swim, you will drown. However, if you dive right in, with your own posts reflecting your own strong beliefs and personality, you will find a motley bunch of amazing people there to hang out with.

Not a single time have I felt I was an outcast, or looking in from the outside of a clique. Quite different actually. I was welcomed, I was talked TO instead of around, and included everytime I wished to be. Anyone who says that the SLU'ers have an instant-mob-kill-a-newbie mentality is wrong, jealous of their own inadequacies or there solely to cause a ruckus. That being said, there are quite a few posters there who I rarely agree with, or find their opinions the complete opposite of mine. That's their prerogative and I've spoken up (given the finger), moved on and haven't been banned. So this cliquish, Cristiano fan club idea a few of you have is pure BS. It doesn't exist. If you have a problem with winding your way thru a sea of people who already know each other, that's your issue. Not theirs. Your best bet is to go in, say hello, be nice. And trust me, you'll find a place you'll call home.

Defending that someone is not an alt is different than posting that she is an alt, and who she is an alt of. If there had been a match, I would not have revealed it (and never have, in any circumstances). There has been some ongoing alt abuse in my forums related to the SC closure, and I have not revealed the connections, just quietly removed accounts as necessary.

However, as for confirming who she was, she IMed me - and I still did not reveal who she was (which she did here), just again confirmed she was not an alt. Thanks for the advice on how to run my forum.

Lucky enough for you Cris' old forums are defunct and unavailable. But I think it's clear your long reign of utter-freaking-crazy precedes this discussion today.

Edit to add: If Cris says he's never outed anyone's alt-identity than he hasn't. I seem to remember you being linked to alt abuse on his forum before the redesign, which would be why you don't post there anymore. But again, given that the site archives are gone I can't pull up the thread in question. Good for you!

I was actually trying to make an admittedly stretched connection between being "home" on a "parcel" and now being a member of the SLU community.

I know, I suck. Nobody gets me. Mosty barely tolerate me. Much like my listeners AND my estate manager.

No offense to anyone, but if a post advertising a third-party forum can't even stay civil because its (ex-)members flock over over to attack one another (don't really care who's right or wrong) you're not setting a particularly welcoming example.

Then again, I see a few names of people that made SC such an beacon of politeness and civil behaviour .

Politeness and civil behavior are the rule their, not the exception. Name calling, flame wars and EXCESS drama are rare.

I think he is recalling the Lexi Morgan thread bashing you that was not in fact posted by Lexi Morgan, but someone pretending to be her. You didn't match, the only similarity was it came from a work computer in the Denver area, but it was not a match. I stated multiple times that the post did not come from you based upon matching, though Lexi did accuse you once finding out it came from Denver. There was no connection proven, however.

I somehow get the impression we're not using "suck" in the same context. I have statistical proof as well because if we WERE then BitM would have millions of listeners instead of a few shut in's, my mom, and their cats...lol.


P.S. - regardless of *some* of the content in this thread, this is the most fun I've had on SL's forums since I discovered "payment info on file" would let me in here. But, I'm with you Niki - I'll see ya's over on SLU.
