Unfortunately this is what really sucks about 3rd party forums, the cliques, the abuse of privacy, trolls, and most of all DRAMA.

I will not comment on if you should of or should not have been banned as I don't know the forum rules, but I will say that since you were banned, you should not have been the only one.

Cristiano tracking your IP to confirm to everyone you are not an alt is a violation of privacy, who cares if you are, it's not anyones business, freedom of speech allows you to speak freely even if it is anonymously.

Shame on you Cristiano, I had hoped you became more professional and not trying so hard to make friends =/

Your first post to SLU was a nasty pissy attack on everyone who posted there and at SC, and while we might've gotten the alt part wrong, you were definitely a rude and disruptive presence there. The continual attacks on gay people the least of it.

Nothing for Cristiano to be ashamed about. Cristiano's been an excellent board admin.

I've seen all sorts of opinions gracing the SLU pages, there are many that agree with him, and many he's very much opposed to.

What distinguishes posts that remain from posts that get chucked in the trash is the manner of presentation and the way the poster comports himself or herself.

In one thread Sooz Pascale and I had a VERY long discussion with many common points and many diametrically opposed viewpoints. Considering that both sides were presented wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that points that Cristiano and the so-called clique are violently opposed to were present in that discussion? That discussion ran full length with no emotions flaring and no moderation whatsoever.

If there's any cliquishness it's only in the kind of jokes people can poke at each other safely. There is no clique-driven list of opinions on SLU. If there were I certainly would have run afoul of them many times since as a technical person I frequently have painfully unpopular points of view.

So again, it's not in what opinion is being said, it's primarily in the way it's being presented. If Crystal feels she is being singled out, I gather that it's primarily because of how she comports herself.

at slu it is VERY popular to bait newcomers into some sort of 'trollish' behaviour, then cry 'troll' and pile on. its even accepted to act like a troll while complaining the other is a troll, and the pile on still follows. its def 'cliquey', no doubt.

Actually Crystal, seeing your last name now, it makes perfect sense. You were the troll who tried to get everyone pumped with your BustedinSL blog before the official forums closed and, failing that, it seems that you've resorted to attacking third party sites.

Someone who gets off on "exposing" people's private lives and private actions isn't the kindof person I'd expect to get along well with others.

One time, I walked into diner at 3am and screamed 'You're all assholes!' at the staff.

They kicked me right out without any further discussion or opportunity to apologize.

SLU's community and it's admin at least gave you an opportunity to defend yourself or try to amend that first impression, something you failed to do.

They're very kind like that.

I don't find it popular and the "baited" newcomers apparently aren't. Real newcomers are enthusiastically welcomed. The ones that get into trouble are those who have some kind of history from elsewhere (other forums or in-world or even IRL).

I have however seen some evolution. There are a couple of members whose posting styles have adjusted in a good direction, one in which they are misunderstood less. A lot of times the flareups are caused simply by poorly worded statements that do not reflect what the poster really intended. With enough patience people do learn. It helps to point out in a dispassionate manner where the problem statements are.

I've done this when I was a mod of an MMO board. There was this guy who was able to draw the ire of both the community and the GMs. I however was able to read between the lines and realized correctly that what he posted was not his intent. I asked clarifying questions to which he responded nicely. I advised him regarding how to handle such statements next time and things worked out.

Jesus christ, they still haven't turned the forum code on? What the hell.

I can always count on you to come into any thread to snipe about something. At least be informed when you are ranting about something. Crystal asked to be confirmed, and it was not done with her IP address. She sent me an IM from SL to let me know who she was.

As far as public threats of banishment, you mean my super serious threat to ban anyone who continued to use "LOG OFF NOW!"? Yeah, I am evol! Get a sense of humor.

Crystal was banned for a simple reason - she came into SLU and was immediately disruptive from post one onward, and remained so. Every post was an attack against people or individuals, including making anti-gay comments against members. It isn't about expressing a contrary opinion. It is about doing what is best to keep a forum healthy and to not devolve into chaos.

I am not arguing that she may not have taken the best approach, I am saying she wasn't the only guilty party. I am also saying the way Cristiano wants to handle these situations is nothing more than to "show off" IMO and an invasion of privacy. In my opinion he handles it poorly and like I said, so what if she is an alt, it's no one's business and most certainly not the admins job to "confirm" it or track down her IP to prove her guilt or innocence then announce it in the forums... then threaten to ban her and only her, THEN announce she has been banned. Give me a break! Why couldn't he have IMed her or just banned her? No... got to be Mighty Mouse and enjoy an applause.

If you enjoy the way the forums are ran, that is your choice, but if SLU wants a good reputation and people to feel comfortable and trustworthy of his forums, he needs to learn a different approach.

She continually attacked several posters, some of us with bigoted anti-gay slurs, and he told her to stop or she'd be banned. She didn't stop, she escalated it further and was even nastier, so he banned her!

SLU has a good reputation; you don't, and your bitching is because Cristiano has linked you countless times to alt-abuse on his forum previously. It's no small shock you'd bitch and whine about this when given the opportunity.

Again, she asked me to confirm she was not an alt, not the other way around. Please show me anywhere that I have revealed that someone is an alt of someone else? You won't find it, because I haven't. Hell, in the case of Crystal, I did not say who she was in SL, just confirmed that she was an established member and not some obvious alt, based upon her having IMed me from SL. It's that simple, but go ahead and make it into something it's not.

At least I had the decency to wait until my SECOND post to be disruptive!

I stand by my first post in this thread. Cool place. The more I cruise around checking out older threads and getting a feel for the place the more I like it. And all the extras will come in real handy when SL is completely FUBAR (rather than the usual level of FUBAR) for a day or so next week.

People are adults and can certainly call each other names, I am not the word police. It isn't about that, it is about a person's entire presence in the forum being nothing but disruptive. Name calling is childish and I certainly don't encourage it, but it takes a lot more than that to be banned. If you come in from post one and attack everyone and everything and contribute nothing else to the forums, I have absolutely no qualms about banning that person. Each site makes its own decisions on how to moderate.
