I dunno Charlotte, I have been here nearly two years, and never had shagging thrust in my face (pardon the pun), and as a matter of fact, most of the folks I know who engage in SL sex are adults. I think you're counting chickens before they hatch. There are many, many uses for video. The places that now have porn pics on the walls will now have porn videos, so what? You still don't have to go there.

It's like blaming porn for teens getting pregnant. They did before porn was prevalent, and they still do after. Remarkably, the rates have been dropping slowly in the US and Europe since the porn industry exploded after the advent of VHS.

Of course sex sells.. we're a nation of sexually deprived, socially inhibited individuals where sex and sexuality is still (largely) taboo.

I think your assumption that sex/porn is *the* reason they brought streaming video into the next release is way off base.

Your logic could also have been applied to custom animations when they first became available. "OMG the only reason they're doing this instead of fixing bugs is 'cuz sex sells".

Of course, there are plenty of sex-related animations, but there are many, many non-sexual animations out there.

I still say Charlotte has a point, in spite of all the lumber thrown about on this thread. Put it this way: At what point does she have the right to say that all the wooley wood being batted around crosses a line and violates privacy? or creates the unavoidable compulsion to respond?....It's not there yet, and may never be, but what's the threshold?

That country would be the U.S. There are many countries where sex and sexuality are not subject to the social stigma we apply to it in the U.S.

What about privacy? What does that have to do with streaming video?

Also, isn't the streaming video parcel based, as streaming audio is? If it 'violates' you, stay off that parcel - end of story. They are not going to be able to shove the video in anyone's face, unless you're on that parcel.

It's clear that some people in SL have a strong distaste for porn - good for them. May I suggest that they never buy a porn video or magazine and maybe stay safely within the confines of PG-rated sims. That is, afterall, why they exist.

No, they are not. If they did, there would be a Porno folder in the default inventory.

LL is giving us expanded tools to enhance the world - what we do with it is up to us. Some will use video to teach, have movie nights... no doubt some will have sexy-sexy shows for thier special someone or have raunch video bars... who knows. But, it's not LL - it's us.

Like the real world, whether we like it or not... there will be alcohol sales, tobacco sales, lottery ticket sales and of course, lots of sex selling everything. I think it would be cool to watch tv in SL or watch a concert. I am sure, with all the intelligent people in SL, someone will show us all kinds of different streaming videos. I might even watch some porn...

I have been here more than a year and I haven't seen much related to sex in SL. I have run into the occasional nude pic or sex bed, but nothing that would offend me personally. It's probably because I'm a hermit and am mostly on my land building, but the last thing that came to my mind related to streaming video was pron.

The first thing that did come to mind is all the people that will be violating copyrights and trademarks by streaming movies and other videos that they don't own. Hopefully, this new feature won't bring about the first lawsuits in SL.

The best thing about SL is that *we* create the content with tools provided...

...so if SL is overrun by porn and AV's bumping uglies and naughty bits - guess who's to blame? Here's a hint -- not LL.

Sorta like saying 'please stop production of video cameras - they're making porn!' - it's a tool, SL is tool (dare I say populated by a bunch of tools)... If LL introduced a 'circumcised radio button' or 'labia sliders' I might be inclined to change my opinion, but as it stands I think it's 'cool feature de jour' -- just like custom anims. Although the tools may very well be used for it (porn), I think it will take SL to the next level.

There is a healthy virtual sex industry going (hell, I even made a few 'wright brothers' contributions to it) - I hardly think it's 'all over SL' or that the sky is falling.
