This new feature is not to help the porn propigate in SL it is a new feature. My first thought was "kewl beans drive in/fly in SL movies" and the artistic aspects this feature will bring.

LL by and large does not seek to hurt the population. As a matter of fact more often than not I see more tools become active so that the mature content is not viewed by default.

My views on porn, well everything has it's place, it's here and until the lindens decide otherwise it will remain as part of the grid and I will have to deal with it.

Sometimes there is a fine line between art and porn and well I would rather some art remained rather than abolish it completely.

I do however agree that this is another tool for the porn industry in SL, I can hope they use it wisely. If you disagree with the porn don't give them dwell, plain and simple. Instead go out of your way and find the the other things that do interest you, art, games, music, shopping, creative builds and give those ppl dwell.

First thing I thought - will the creative theatrical people be able to make videos of life in Second Life? For those of you who were in THERE, you may remember the movies that were made with the avatars. One of the only cool things I enjoyed about THERE was going to the movies and watching a short film of avatars going thru their daily trials of virtual life. All were comedys of course and the story lines tapped in to the paradigm of being an avatar in a virtual world. "Noob Hunter" comes to mind.

Being picked to be an actor in one of these films will have more prestige than being on the leaderboard with the most money in SL if you ask me. Can you imagine some of the films that could be made here?

"Life on the Farm" starring Schwanson and. . . his sheep
"Independance Day at the Welcome Area"
"Shoot Out at the Edge"
"My Big Fat Avatar Wedding"
"Revenge of the Furries"

Well, version 1.5 of SL introduced many more primitize options.

I forget who I was talking too as soon as we learned about this - it might have been the Sigster - and we were SURE that the reason this was done so people could have PRIM PUBES.

Alas, I have seen much hoochie hair on heads since then, but no prim pubes! What gives? Can anyone else think of a better way to lag a sim than 255 count prim pubes?!

I'm also pretty sure the the web is a much better delivery vehicle for porn than Second Life. I mean, can you really see your avatar and your RL self getting caught wanking simulataneously? Why take the risk. We men get like frickin' batman when it comes to porn and our personal tossing habits!

The Lindens have realised that SL is starting to get a reputation outside of its own boundaries on the internet. Hormonal teenagers are talking about it, as an online place where you can get a shag, like, really easily, man. The virtual equivalent of a nightclub in Romford on a Saturday night, as it were. They know this is bringing in the, erm, punters.

So what better way to get more people in than allow the black boxes that currently show slideshows of cheap porn to show full motion video? They're onto a winner here, and the only losers are those of us who just want to live out our second lives in a non-sexual way. (Perhaps because we're getting it in RL.)

SL is going to become the laughing stock of the internet. "Oi Dave, you seen this thing? These people go on here and shag with virtual people! Saddos!" Not to mention the fact that most of us just DON'T WANT porn, whether still images or videos, shoved in our faces at every other junction in the road, and videos are PC-killing lag creators anyway.

Lindens - I implore you, kill this feature before the full 1.6 release. Otherwise, you've turned me forever into the most cynical of users.

While you are fully entitled to your opinion, IMHO it's quite paranoid. I've spent a lot of time in SL and I haven't really seen much of this porno-invasion.

As for useless feature... pshaw. All it takes is a little imagination. QT doesn't lag the sim for anyone and if you have a computer made in the last 4 years, it won't affect your client much at all either.

Lindens, I implore you to shut down the forums.

I really don't understand why people are so threatened by porn. Just listen to the insults fly! "Oh, they just can't get sex in real life, blah blah blah."

And here comes the responses... "HEY, I'm not THREATENED! I just don't like it!" Well, okay, fine, maybe some of you aren't threatened. Hell, Charlotte just seems annoyed. It doesn't even matter, really, because nothing can be everyone's cup of tea.

Personally, I like porn. I like sex. Come to think of it, if it involves women, I'm usually for it. So if there's a red light district in SL, you can be sure that I'll check it out. But sometimes I just stay at the house and learn a little about building. Depends upon my mood.

But I've never had anyone fly into my land and set up a porn slide show on my front porch without asking me. (If that happened I would be forced to make them move the appauling construct INTO the house, so I can look at it later...)

So Charlotte, if you don't like it, that's perfectly fine. Just don't go to those places. I seriously doubt that anyone will try to make you do anything you don't want to do.

So will this mean more porn? Of course it will. Most people want their porn, in some way at some level. If they didn't want it, then sex just wouldn't sell. But there are so many used beyond that. What about water? I could loop something and get a hell of a pool going. Or what if someone wants to build a drive-in theater? Those are pretty much gone in RL but they could be brought back in SL.

We could even televise SL events. (If the tech will allow it. Don't know much about how the streaming will work.) We could hold a tournament in Jessie. Jetball or something. You could pick a guy and see the match from his POV. Or maybe a spy drone will fly around and transmit. Or Shadow could race someone in his new airplane. We could actually have in-world televised spectator sports.

After the initial PORN EXPLOSION, Charlotte, I think you'll see some uses for video that you can be happy with.

P.S. Now that I'm looking at the preceding paragraph, I feel that I must apologize for putting your name right next to a phrase like "porn explosion." Sorry about that.
