I have a hard time remembering, but I *think* I started D/s IRL. Though quickly got into it online as well, so the two happened right around the same time.

My D/s relationship on SL is very strong and true, and I love my pet Eloise very much. It unfortunately can't really move into RL particularly because of a thing called the ATLANTIC OCEAN that's kind of standing in our way.

And no, I'm not looking for an RL sub.. though once my computer is fixed and I can actually get back onto SL, I'd be curious to meet some SL Dom/mes looking for an SL sub. :o

-No have not practiced in rl myself - well not on purpose
-Yes there are several that I know of who are together in rl and sl
-In my case, such as it is right now, yes absolutely! Although i am not collared, i am protected by a Dom who is kind and thoughtful, who treats me as His own and who constantly strives to give me the attention i want and need.
-LOL - i personally haven't met any yet but that certainly doesn't mean They're not out there!
-at the beginning of my introduction to D's i dreamt about it nonstop. Not so much now that i feel "in the lifestyle" but it still gives me an emotional rush like nothing else! :)

- I Domme'd IRL several years ago, but haven't practiced recently due to a lack of local resources.
- I know of a few, but don't know them personally.
- Yes, the emotional intensity is just as real in SL as in RL.
- Not at this time, but that may change.

- None that I can remember, but then, I don't remember much about my dreams.

Awww..thanks..we are pretty solid, thanks to alot of information sharing and support by the members. Kyrah knows all about us already ;)

I've seen all instances that she has listed. Folks that started D/s in RL and then took it online, folks that started online and took it to RL, folks that started online and keep it online, and folks hooking up with Dom/mes and subs within SL and taking that into a RL relationship.

Like any relationship, it requires alot of work, honesty, open communication and even compromise. I see them fail miserably, and succeed admirably online.

Remember: Safe, sane and consensual, and if you are taking it to RL, use common sense and precautions.

SL is full of D/s community. However, I'm not particularly involved within that, it's a different community I'm involved in. The D/s community is generally welcoming with opened arms as much as everything else is. Which I'm glad to know people with similar views.

When I first started, the community wasn't really there. Not as of yet. So it was quite lonely at first and quite a struggle. But now that SL has grown and expanded and more and more people started showing up. Which finally has become mainstream.

.... it has always been a dream.....

Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes (but not me at the moment)

And I have had several D/s dreams, actually...

Be careful, there are alot of players in SL...

But once you filter them out there is a nice growing community.

Perilous Pleasures is nice, but their number of events has dwindled... (maybe that is changing? I'm not completely in the know)

I have been wanting to host my own "mixer" events... (not to compete with PP) and I think if I get to building a venue I just might.

What is it about SL that continually attracts nutters, randoms and people who generally would be locked up if they pursued their particular lifestyle on the streets of Camden?

A few of these "D/s lifestylers", as they like to be called, are fairly decent people when you speak to them on their own. But as a "community", they are arrogant, irritating and generally repulsive.

The virtual world has hundreds of these mistresses who seem to almost run as a business, allocating time to each of their "slaves" (a concept which I also find utterly disgusting). Wherever one of the "slaves" goes, you can be pretty sure a fucking "chain" will appear after a while, and as if by magic, some joker in a leather costume pops up in the middle of your conversation.

This isn't "D/s lifestyle". This is the perennial SL malaise of people sitting at their PCs wanking off while avatars move around on their screen.

Charlotte,

Cool down, or are you just trolling?

You get all kind of people in the D/s community here, some really decent, some not. And obviously - you're right there - , it's an interest that can lead to abusive behaviour very easily.

SL is a very open and friendly place where people can come to grips with a very common set of fantasies, that are often angst- and guilt-ridden, and would be very impractical to carry on in the RW. That' a real, and useful service. Just having a place to talk is important.

Not anyone has to become a player, but many who have those fantasies can discuss them with like minded people, and choose whether to experiment in world.

Charlotte,

<<What is it about SL that continually attracts nutters, randoms and people who generally would be locked up if they pursued their particular lifestyle on the streets of Camden?>>

Whereas you would fit right in on the streets of Camden? Yes, I have seen people there who share some of your characteristics, shouting at passers-by, shaking their fist at the sky, muttering to themselves as they pull their mouldering wheeled shopping bags behind them.

You know, Charlotte, if you could somehow cultivate a sense of humour you would come over as quite an entertaining observer rather than as someone so grimly misanthropic. It would be a lovely transformation to witness.

Little do you know, I'm on the streets of Camden right now. I threw my computer out of the window after my brand new LCD monitor acquired a large scratch simply as a result of being carried up the stairs, and now I use the easyEverything place in the post office.

So...
not only do you want to decide how people build in SL, you want to decide how they enjoy it too?

The situation was not helped when the administrators turned off the lights on all unoccupied floors of 1 Canada Square, creating a visibly half empty property on London's skyline.

Do you just find things to argue about?

If you even have a single clue about what these lifestyles are about, they have been around for centuries. Of course people who refuse to read up on what they don't know about just assume. I don't need to repeat teachings they speak for themselves.

Well Charlotte, I'm sorry to hear you've had such bad experiences with people involved in the lifestyle. Here on SL, I've found them to be, for the most part, very friendly, open and likable. There will always be some arrogance, but that can be found in many people in or out of the lifestyle.

And when you talk of slaves, you do realize, I hope, that it is a consensual thing amongst adults, and either party is free to walk away if they feel the need.

It almost sounds as if you are attributing bad traits found in people from any walk of life as the fault of the D/s lifestyle. Or perhaps you just need to spew negativity to feel better ;)

At Perilous Pleasures, our main goal is open communication and education regarding D/s and BDSM. Feel free to come on by and I'll give you a quick tour. It's really not all about sex or wanking off, though that is my favorite part of it, of course ;)

Yes the number of events have dropped off, as I've been on a break, as well as being ill. But hopefully we will be up and running at full steam in the next week or two. There's already been talk of a full-out, fancy Ball.

And would love to see more mixer and munch type events from elsewhere. The more the merrier in my opinion.

Hehe, one thing to keep in mind, Charlotte... in any community, you'll almost always encounter the obnoxious jerk members of said community early on... simply because they're obnoxious jerks. :D
