I feel like the neg queen

Although, I have run into Violet on occasion, I personally don’t know (in any sense of the word) her. But I think this conversation has gotten a little out of hand…

First of all, I can’t believe some of you have taken it upon yourselves to diagnose her with a mental illness. Kris Ritter has addressed this issue perfectly so I feel no need to re- hash the issue.

Secondly, who says she has no reason at all for negative rating someone? You may not like her answer but she obviously has a reason. For example: 1 negative rating in appearance…perhaps her reason is she doesn’t like the way you look. Lindens have given us these tools, whether we use them or not, it’s not up to us to decide she is doing something wrong if it isn’t breaking the ToS.

As far as newbies, walking into the game and getting negative ratings – yes, slightly unfair but I don’t know if it is something to walk away from the game. I didn’t even know what a rating was for a couple days when I started. I honestly don’t believe people are walking away because of this (I want proof). If people did cancel their trial account because of this the are too sensitive to be well…living (rl or sl). Let’s face it folks, life is unfair, people are rude, it happens every day and yet some how we all seem to struggle through it. If a negative rating is the worst thing that happens to me in a day I should be grateful.

In conclusion, I would like to hear from those of you that have had their second lives completely ruined by a negative rating (not your grandma’s girlfriend’s cousin’s friend). I am sure Lindens are doing their best to keep SL running smoothly but if you don’t report abuse (if you think it is abuse) then how are they to curb/fix this “problem.” I think I will become a lobbyist for Cletus Hatfield’s Sarcasm Button/Sensitivity Level Indicator (/13/7c/45171/1.html) so I know which of you to look out for in the future.

So many threads posted about the Linden need for rating. Is there any part of the program worth keeping!? GET RID OF RATINGS! Even with the 6 month price increase fix, it is just abuse waiting to happen. Come on LL...what is the current purpose of rating?

Wow some of you have some wild crazy imaginations. Let me clear this one, first of all I do not neg rate any newbies. If I did please bring them to me because you are full of it. And I love how you all think I have 4 alts and neg rate. rofl are you kidding me. I think I am the fall woman for every person that has ever neg rated here. Oh and as for my mental illness, thanks for everyone being so concerned but the lithium and electric shock treatments don't work so well for me anymore. Thank you everone for analizing me it was very entertaining.

The purpose of rating is to be able to know when you meet an "asshat" or a "fucktard" (to use the standard forum expressions).

This is valuabe to me and to many others as well.

I still think if might be better if Linden simply published a sub-set of the stats that I assume they keep on avitars. Like when someone offers you a business deal it would be nice to look them up and find out that 45 people made complaints about them before or whatever.

And looking at the problem in a wider sense, it is pretty clear that you are not going to get any kind of good social interaction in any game or artificial world without *some* kind of social controls (which ratings are a part of).

In RL this is referred to as "laws & morals" or "reputations & community standing."

Sometimes all are included under the blanket term of "civilisation"

I'm not sure of mentally ill, but I do believe this person has some deep rooted psychological problems and should seek professional help. I see someone who throughout their life has been constantly berated, leading them to acquire a nasty inferiority complex. Because this person lacks the confidence to stand up and take action to those people in RL, her only outlet is to safely and anonymously fire back all this negativity onto people over the Internet who don't deserve it (much like she believed she didn't deserve the abuse that she received in RL). This person is also doing this because in RL, she was meant to feel like an unimportant nothing- Now she's trying to gain whatever fame, noteriety and attention she can, even if it's negative attention, and now is craving more by starting a thread about herself (Notice if you will that she even refers to herself as a 'queen'). My theory is based on the facts that she seems to dedicate most of her SL time to this, she dumps money to pay for more alts just to add more negative ratings, she compiles a catalog of people who disagreed with her on this thread to stalk them down to neg rate them, and now as Cocoanut Koala pointed out, this vendetta has now expanded to negrating even the friends of these people.

Yes, I do believe this person should be removed. This person hangs around the Wecome Area- the place where new players get their first impression of SL, and leaves one hell of a nasty first impression. If I was a new user, and this happened to me, I would likely think of SL as an unmoderated playground for a bunch of kiddie jerks and would have cancelled my trial account. As well, for old players (that could be shelling LL a good amount of $$$ per month for land tier fees) who might already be disgruntled with a lack of LL's disciplinary action in other cases, this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back and pushes them to terminate their account. This person is hurting the community by driving away potential new players and fed-up old players, and at the same time is hurting LL's wallet.
