I hope they're able to figure out who did this and permaban them! It's unbelievable what malicious assholes some people can be. I'm so sorry that happened to you Sio.

I hope they're able to figure out who did this and permaban them! It's unbelievable what malicious assholes some people can be. I'm so sorry that happened to you Sio. Seems to be happening to lots of people lately, one way or another. Some get this, others get a sim-destroying build next to their land, as happened to Anshe... there's nothing special about my case. The Lindens need to track down these people and ban their IP and CC. _____________________

This is exactly what I have come to hate about SL ... and what makes me want to leave! Sio and her friends make wonderful things. Why are thugs allowed to bulldoze (literally and figuratively) her home??!! Why are idiots allowed to build black boxes and call them clubs and hang them over peoples beautiful home space??? If LL wants thugs to be their population base, they are certainly heading in the right direction. There should be something that will alert a landowner that their land is being massively altered - even if they forgot to turn of the access thingy. As far as I know, in RL, if you forget to lock your house, its still not OK for unwanted folks to enter and destroy it. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE BACON PHILIP!

Right. 1. Trees shouldn't be under land tools, they should be down as objects. 2. The "anyone can edit land" option should be removed, land edit access should be available to grant solely to people you explicitly allow. 3. There should be a box to tell you who did these things to your land, at what time. And a box directly underneath to whack them round the fecking head with. If I find what bastard did this, they really, really won't know what's hit them. 2a. We should be able to give creating/editing rights to specific people without having to raise the privacy fence. 2b. We should be able to move objects on our land, even if created and placed by others. I'm so sorry this happened to you. ![]() There are far too many inmature human wannabees in SL._____________________

I am curious on how griefers seem to find these things so quickly - is it something that can be detected via script? It seems whenever someone accidentally leaves land editing turned on, it draws someone like a magnet.
Sorry this happened to you Siobhan ![]() _____________________

it'd be nice if we could have a save land feature so we could revert to that configuration if we, or anybody, messed it up too badly.
we can't because an entire sim's frame is stored in a single file so they'd have to keep a copy for every owner in the sim. considering the current state of the asset server, that's a pretty bad idea. i'm sorry you were attacked siobhan. let me know if there's anything i can do. oh and what eggy said. tree plants should be tied to no build, not edit. _____________________

Glad to hear that you were able to mostly restore your land.
Anyone want to test how long it takes a piece of editable land to be griefed? If someone was willing to volunteer a small plot, we could use it as a "honeypot" and catch them in the act. The Lindens would have to do something if we got it on tape! _____________________

Hi Siobhan,
Sorry that happened, what a bummer. I'll send mail and see if anyone has a script for a partial restore or can do something about this. It is tough (as said in this thread) because the whole sim is stored together. But we are working on some backup tools that would help with things like this. _____________________

Philip, The sim hasn't been changed much in ages, so I doubt any of the other sim residents would object to a rollback anyway.... _____________________

I own 1794sqm in one corner of the sim - three sides of my land are bordered by the affected land. I don't object to a rollback. |

I'd be up for a rollback too. I'm almost positive Frannie and Anne will be fine with that, too

![]() I hope one day we will have backup feature for content on parcels. I would even be willing pay real money for this. _____________________

Damn it Siobhan!!
I'm sorry you had to wake up to this... Sometimes I'm dumbstruck at how nasty people are willing to be to others in SL. Sure we have disagreements and conflicts, but the blatant attacks intended to harass, harm and hurt others are simply wrong. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. _/_/_/ _____________________

I'm really sad to see this kind of thing happen *again*, Siobhan. I hope the server logs can reveal who did it, so they won't be in the game much longer.

It has been discovered that the asshole who did this is a closet shit eater. Seems eating shit causes behavioral problems of this nature, especially in minors.

Ouch. I just realized you could probably script an attachment to screw any modifiable land under your avatar automatically. Ugh.

So do I. I put in 2 abuse reports and have spoken with 3 Lindens. And a request for a sim rollback is in... I dunno if it'll be fixed, but... In any case, the land is usable again now... if not quite as pretty as it was before. _____________________

I am curious on how griefers seem to find these things so quickly - is it something that can be detected via script? It seems whenever someone accidentally leaves land editing turned on, it draws someone like a magnet. Sorry this happened to you Siobhan ![]() From what I remember of the Big SL Earthquake of '04, lots of the private islands had probably been getting left overnight, or even sometimes days at a time with the land editing permissions turned on, for several reasons: -Carelessness/accidentally -Difficulties managing group endeavors, so that the permission either had to be turned on for everyone or off for everyone. -A general belief in the goodness of others, therefore not expecting the worst-case-scenario of visitors. This led to exactly the worst-case-scenario; a griefer who flew around one evening, and land-edited the crap out of every single private island that they could find who had the permissions set to "on". I don't know if this is script-detectable, but I have a feeling that bored griefers and vengeful avatars now go island-hopping regularly in hopes of catching an entire private sim or three that were left unprotected. The island sims are a lot easier to check for such security flaws then on the main continent for several reasons: -The entire sim is owned by one person, or group, and if divided at all, tends to be divided into relatively large parcels. -With the exception of a few older sims, the new private islands are the only places where the land is so wildly terraformable, and therefore capable of causing so much damage/returned builds. -The islands represent a small percentage of SL as a whole. There aren't that many of them, compared to the public sims. It doesn't take a whole heckuva lot of time to check them. Knowing this, we need to concentrate on two things: -First, until we get a better system in place for land permissions, all landowners really need to be careful about how they set their permissions; how careful you need to be is direclty related to the size/value/effort of your land -Lindens, we really REALLY need a better way of managing WHO can do WHAT with WHO'S stuff and land. Need suggestions? I'll post one in Feature Suggestions, and link from here when I get it posted. Sio, sorry to hear about the mess. If I weren't going to be at work, I'd stop by to show my support today. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Virtual Gods can do a rollback for you. Anyone have a Superman avatar? Maybe if they flew around SL REALLY fast, backwards...... |

It is tough (as said in this thread) because the whole sim is stored together. But we are working on some backup tools that would help with things like this. Another option I would suggest... We have the ability to grant a single user permission to modify our Objects, it would be nice to have it for land editing as well. Siobhan could have granted that one person permission to Edit her land, without leaving it open to idiots. _____________________

I don't think they will ban them, this happened to Garth and me too while I was landscaping our plot in Olive over a year ago. Said griefer is still alive and enjoying his SL. _____________________

I'm following what's going on here. Hey, Sio, I'm just glad I found out from Kris in the wee hours -- I was about to head to bed and I wouldn't have known otherwise.
