Yesterday, Freya was building a garden on my land, so, in order for her to be able to plant trees etc, I needed Land-Edit to be on. She then logged out, and a little later, so did I. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn Land-Editing off.
Imagine my surprise this morning then when I logged in to find every inch of my land raised to maximum height! Objects returned as off-world and the landscape utterly destroyed.
I can only apologise to my fellow Mocha residents and the merchants at the mall. I have no way to tell who did this, only that it was done at aproximately 10:45-10:50 PST.
If anyone can offer help on getting things back to normal, it would be appreciated. An abuse report was sent to LL, but I have no way of knowing if they can or will fix it.
I just don't know what to say...

Some people are assholes I feel for you... I think a few people need to learn a lil respect. Siggy.

I dunno what to do, Siggy... it took over a year to terraform it right, and now it's a mountain...

What eludes me is that in 24 hours, some random asshole managed to find his/her way to the area and do that. 24 hours. Probably even less than that.
We really don't need a Kid Grid to experience first-hand all the joys of immature mentality, I see.

I have heard talk of sim rollbacks. Im not sure how that works but if your neighbors agree, maybe that can be done to Mocha. So sorry to hear your having to deal with this.

That's terrible. How can this be done? Is terraforming limited to you and your neighbors? Grieving tools? Perhaps the "revert" option may restore it closer to the old form. Whatever, I'm sorry this happened to you.

Your place is right next to a telehub, so maybe that increased the "random asshole" odds. That is horrible what happened to you. Some people need to learn to respect other people's property. I hope you can get it fixed. If not, see if you have some old snapshots to help you rebuild the land.

It took about 3 hours... not 24... And I had Land-Editing on for tree planting, and forgot to turn it off...

It appears the mall was pretty much unaffected by this, apart from the fact that this sim is now ugly. I guess that's something.

Does it strike anyone else as COMPLETELY IDIOTIC that trees bear ANY relation to "land editing"? Trees are primitives. They should be regulated by the "no build" checkbox.

For those that dont understand what happened, it is a land owner option. If you right click your land, you can choose "about land" then go to options. If "edit land" is checked, anyone can terraform and change your land. It is handy for letting others work on your land if needed, but you should not allow it to always be edit without supervision. Be sure that you disable this feature so that what happened to Siobhan does not happen to you.

The land tools are obviously in dire need of work, obvious as this isn't the first time a passing asshat has used that to wreck someone's build and terraforming.
Of course, what REALLY needs work is this sick fscker who did this.
One idea that separates child from adult is the understanding of the idea that if once can do something, it does not follow that one should. No doubt a simple concept that eludes the perpetrator.
Since it's not possible to force the maturing of any human being, never mind a lost cause like the one in question here, my I suggest that land be given a "snapshot" feature. This would place a copy of the current land shape on some corner of the database - retrievable by the land owner on request. Call it a terraforming undo button.
Not only would it help people terraform their land, it would reduce greatly the work Siobhan now has to do to restore her land and build.

Oh my! Sorry to hear!
LL has a log for it if they care enough to dig it up. Maybe you have some neighbours that witnessed it?

Right.
1. Trees shouldn't be under land tools, they should be down as objects. 2. The "anyone can edit land" option should be removed, land edit access should be available to grant solely to people you explicitly allow. 3. There should be a box to tell you who did these things to your land, at what time. And a box directly underneath to whack them round the fecking head with.
If I find what bastard did this, they really, really won't know what's hit them.

Thanks everyone who's offered help and/or sympathy. I think the best thing to do at the moment though is to wait for a Linden to wake up, and hope they'll roll back the sim.

Right everyone! Come to the affected land in Mocha (you can't miss it) at 2pm Linden time tonight for a huge PARTY on the mountain! It's our little way of showing whichever snivelling little twat did this that we won't be ground down by muppetry.

Siobhan, I'll give you my growable trees if that can help.

OMG, that's so horrible!
I wonder how people find out that you have edit on though? Seriously! Do they check EVERY day?

We're still hoping for a roll-back... But, in the meantime, with help, the damage is under control. I'd like to offer my heartfelt thanks to those who've helped me this morning... - Freya Becquerel
- Kris Ritter
- Charlotte Gilespie
- Nigel Linden
- Jack Linden
And to Serena, Sharn and Torley for coming to offer me support. I don't know what I'd have done without you.

How many times does this have to happen before LL fixes it? A simple alternative, probably a couple lines of code, would be to use the existing Avatars Allowed Access list, even if limited access is turned off, as the authorization list for land editing. Just add your trusted friends to that list and you're done. Leave land editing on, and never worry about forgetting it again. Just keep that list of friends up to date So sorry to hear this Siobhan. I hope they log such changes and can permanently cancel this moron's access.

They can. As I said, we just had 6 people excavate it. Took a few hours, but it's back to a close approximation of what it used to be.
