Is Rating dead now?

An awful lot of ratings are exchanged at clubs for the purpose of increasing stipend. i.e. I'll give you +3 if you'll do the same. You will notice as an extreme example that most of the top 10 builders are actually club dancers, not actual builders. You'll see the real builders (apart from 1 or 2 who do make the top 10) anywhere between 15th and 1500th place.

How much of the average player's scores came from "handshake" ratings? "Hey, nice ta meetcha, here's a +1." That's gone now.

I agree totally and think its said that a friendly, positive way of introducing oneself is now gone.

If my 2000+ L is returned to me that I paid out, then reset them to 0...

or all rating scaled back by /25 would be fine to be fair to the new standard.

Personally, I'm in the reset the L$1's to 0. Refund or no, those ratings shouldn't count.

Phase them out over time. Each week, before stipend bonuses are calculated, delete all ratings over a year old. Eventually, only L$25 ratings will count. (And when we reach that point, stop deleting old ratings. Maybe.)

As are the embarrased explanations of those totally broke and unable to reciprocate. I think the freindly greeting and passing compliment works better anyway, and costs 100% less while leaving the repuation system alone.

You don't like the way ratings are at the moment?

I've requested we form a Union together, at this forum:

/120/47/33274/1.html

If you want to stand shoulder to shoulder with other SL residents, and put your case to the Lindens as a group, join up.

There is no leader, this is not a members club, this is just a group of paying customers speaking together. Speak with us or speak alone.

I was careful to build up my positive ratings until the change. Now that it costs more to rate, I can start being an asshole without worrying too much about get negs.

.
.
.

Psych! :p

Seriously, though, I found it uncomfortable* to get a +3 from someone I'd just met (who likely hadn't seen any of my builds, as I wasn't distributing them yet). I like to earn my accolades, so I'm cool with the change. *shrug*

* I'm talkin' 'bout the twinge of guilt you get when you receive undue praise/credit. Actually, does anyone else know what I'm talking about, or am I just weird?

Something these forums badly need, if you ask me.

Just to demonstrate how dead ratings are;

I actually rated someone a couple of days ago because they did something really nice for me. I was looking for a white dress shirt with a tie, and he had one on hand and passed it over almost as soon as I asked. It made my day so he got a +1 behavior from me along with my gratitude. Now I'm still in noob country as far as cash goes, so $25L isn't spare change to me. The rating felt meaningful to me and I enjoyed giving it.

So a week later; not dead, just meaningful.

Look, I do NOT agree that the ratings I earned up til now -positive OR negative - are devalued becasue of the cost of a rating point.

When someone gave me a point because they appreciated something I did for them, I didn't do the math and say to myself "Look, someone loves me a whole buck's worth!"

I didn’t carry myself any differently before than after the increase. 100 ratings is NOT 100 Lindens worth of ratings. It’s 100 times another person said “Hmmm. That’s a Good Thing.”

I never went to rating parties (except for my unwitting attendance at that neg-rating party in Jessie where I was apparently guest-of-honor), or rated someone to get them to rate me, or even gave someone three points when I was really rating behavior. So, I’m a bit alarmed to hear people say my ratings are now “worth” less. If I wanted my ratings to have a monetary worth, I’d have handed out cash – which, by the way, I have done on occasion!

Maybe people should have been more honest about the ratings they gave out before. I tried to be. But, even if they were not honest, why should MY ratings be devalued?

I’m beginning to wonder if this is a clever way of destroying the rating system completely. Not that I would miss it, but I’d prefer an open, clean axe more than a gradual sabotage. If the Lindens have decided that there be no artificial boost to socialization, then they should send the rating system the same place as the points-for-calling-cards went.

I’d much prefer some sort of tax (yes, we used to have taxes) than to have the rating system monetarized.

Kill the system dead, or leave it alone. I see NO justification for comparing prior ratings to current ones just because the Lindens chose to meddle in the system for their own – UNRELATED – economic purposes.
