You Lindens need to rethink the qualifications for life help and the greeter program jesika for instances is turning down some up right good citizens of SL who have experience in helping newbies. do we just need to recall jesika and get someone else who will be fair?
she has no clue of who is qualified. i guess if one doesnt kiss the feet of the head lindens they are not qualified is that right Jesika??? or if they make a big stink on the forums about the Lindens and how little the head ones care about the residents who pay thier salaries and this game to be successful then they cant be greeters.. other than no abuse reports what are the qualificatons of a greeter Jesika????
obviously you dont want good citizens of SL, or citizens who have who are experienced in helping newbies or in building texturizing , and all
but then again Jesika fits right up there with the top lindens.. only care about the residents with big rl money..
should i include here a copy of the totally rude email i got from jesika.. think she ranks up there with Kona for rudeness and being clueless

I've reported this post for lack of excessive question marks.

I imagine that one of the major qualifications for the greeter program is effective communication skills.

Glad I second checked that - at first glance I thought it said 'Queefer Qualifications'

True story - when I applied for the Live Helper program the reply was:

'HAHAHAHHAHHA Are you KIDDING?'

Last game I played I was the "king of evil". When I left they said evil had left the game (it was a allowed to be evil). I did all sorts of horrible things to people in that game.

Think I can get a position helping newbies?

Well, if English is not your first language, perhaps you should write the application in whichever language is? That would be a good start, I think you would get your point across more clearly. They do need people to help with the non-English speaking residents.

If English is your primary language. Well, i'm going to have to agree with their choice in the matter. It's hard to help people if they can't understand what you're saying.

I don't know Siggy. I used to cut out the competetion. I'd be the type to hand them a HOG on the first day....just so they can start the game on the right foot...banned.

I tried...REALLY I DID...then I saw this post by our ever so articulate Julianna  Ya gotta admit though...at least you can kinda understand what she was saying on this post this time around...even without her punctuations and general bad grammar skills. But hey, like si Money said...if English is a second language for her, that would totally explain it all...BUT if English is her primary language...LOL...I laugh WITH her is all I'm sayin' :D Hey, it could have been worse...Julianna could've attempted to spell "FIC"... :o

One very positive thing about this thread is it draws more attention to the Greeter program, put forth by Linden Lab for the community of Second Life. If you're new or not sure what the Greeter program is all about, please go here to read more information about it and "sibling" programs -- all of them focused on peer support and making SL a better, happier place to virtually live:

https://secondlife.com/community/volunteer.php

And also, for further reference, here are the very reasonable requirements for the volunteer programs:
  1. Desire to help your fellow Residents
  2. Have been in-world for at least two months
  3. Have and maintain a relatively clean Linden Rapsheet

Some have expressed to me that they wish the time was shorter, but like Yoda, Mr. Miyagi, and other great world leaders have expressed, ;) PATIENCE counts for a lot. Plus, if you're all fresh and excited to SL, it gives you a lot of chance to build up your repertoire of the knowledge and apply it when the time does come.

Carp Die Em!

(Or something like that.)

I'm always impressed with your ability to see the silver lining, no matter what. It oppugns any dysthymia folks like us typically have. I would love an opportunity to sit and have a chat with you about how you do that as it's a skill I was never able to develop.

The devil with criticising Julianna's writing skills.
Lots of people in SL aren't particularly adept in that area. That's no sin, and not a fair thing to take her to book on, let alone to laugh at.

The content and attitude of her post is another matter.

I was once an office supervisor in a company experiencing growing pains from rapid expansion. I had to select a co-worker on our team to show the ropes to the new hires.

I chose someone who could reasonably and objectively represent the company, but without spouting disingenuous propoganda -- I wanted someone who, in addition to positive enthusiasm about the place, could also say "There are things about the company that many people take issue with, these are the issues, and this is how we deal with it."

I would have summarily rejected as temperamentally unsuitable anyone who's day-to-day criticism of the company regularly took the form of "The managers are clueless louts and the executives don't give a damn."
How poor a supervisor would I have been to assign someone like that to a new hire as an informal trainer, and as a representative example of the co-workers on a team.

In this light, I read Julianna on the one hand wanting to be a Greeter or a Live Helper, yet in the same post making a string of extravagant accusations about a situation which she appears unable to not take personally, or to question without snideness and rancor.

I would not want to be a newbee formally greeted or helped by an example of our community who is simultaneously draped beneath both a Second Life title and an attitude reflected in posts like these:
