Buy your own land if you're serious about doing business. You have total controll over what happens with your store and you're free to do whatever you like. No waisted efforts.

I am the perfect example that a shop build on cheap land (snowy mountain often covered in annoying clouds and fog) can be a success.

Believe me it's worth it! ;)

I think the majority of the people have posted in this thread Do own their own land if not a whole sim and have built and managed stores of their own -- myself included. :)

As for the Cartel, you have confused me with someone else.

I am sorry Surreal, but I just checked my records. And I found that I have not confuse you. But maybe communication between us had some confusion.

I think one of the things I can point to in the success of places like Umber, Indigo, Le Cadre, Riiki and a few other places is while they are excellent places to shop. There is more to do in the SIMs than shop... Some have clubs and other attractions which bring new people into the sims and bolster their staying power. As well as having events and creating a space where people can not only shop, but meet other players, hang out and have a good time. Shopping only sims are only going to attract those who want to shop. If I go to XYZ shopping sim to buy a pair of shoes. I will buy said pair of shoes and then go elsewhere to hang out and meet people.

this is my theory as well. large blocks of land that are, generally, group owned and contain various types of areas are the places to go in sl. a few shops over here, an event area over there, bit of housing, bit of quiet park land, club (if you must) at 500m, that's the ticket nowadays.

Flipper is my RL fiancee. We live together and play SL about 10 feet away from each other unless he happens to be at work. We bought one of the first mainland sims Indigo in January of last year. Which was months before any of the island sims were released. We have invested alot time and money into the Indigo. We have had a store in Indigo since May or June, which has undergone several changes, but has always been there. Munch and myself spend countless hours not only designing, but managing the store. To say we need to invest more time is a slap in the face. We spend enough time here as it is.

My main concern Lensey, was NOT the return of rent -- Since we were given a complimentary space for Flipper's help with Rodeo Drive early on, which now for some reason you are denying. Eventhough I have a firm recollection of him spending the better part of a day doing terraforming, roadwork etc in Rodeo. If he didnt help build the sim in your book, then I am not sure why we had a complimentary spot in the first place. All i wanted to know was if the sim was wiped clean what happened to our build and store merchandise since I have not had one single item show up back in my inventory?? Which was met with you telling me to shut the hell up since I didnt pay rent and stop complaining cause I'm a mean spirited person.

I stand by my general annoyance of shopping malls opening and closing without warning and changing hands so frequently. I invest countless hours into maintaining ALL of my vending spots and quite frankly I am sick of wasting my time. I could care less about the rent paid to some places

You should ask Flipper, he didn't terrain or build on that land, not one of those blocks were in his name (besides your store), and he did not terrain the land!!!???!!!! IT was all flat, and I also made the mountain myself. You guys are such liers!!! ASK HIM... !!!

Funny how alot of you ppl, never even talk to ppl until you want something from them. And then you don't even try to get to know them. Only to get what you want and later talk sh*t about them. Pretty sad, but hey.. that's life... and others see that ;)

Beverly Hills has no plans in changing owners.
We informed everyone that owned a shop in Galleria City by Private IM of the change in our sim and renfunded those who had rent in advance and also gave a weeks notice.
Also we gave priority to those who had shops in Galleria City a shop in Beverly Hills.
We understand that no one likes changes but galleria city had to be changed due to its wasted prim count, and it mulitiple owners of the city which would have made it impossible to maintain.
Also no one liked not being able to fly around galleria city due to it extreme altitude.
changes had to be made.
Beverly Hills apologise for this inconvience.

Ohhh? I remember you talking to Zoey having some paranoid fantasy about me getting a bunch of people to neg rate her. Which was crap. I also remember you banning me from the sim based on her crap... I also remember giving her 500L because she said she was having money trouble. I thought the neg rating would mess up her stippen. Course I then remembered her getting quite a large sum for building in another sim later. So she didn't really need my 500L. I also remember her neg rating me and getting a friend of Billas to do it to after her and Billa screwed me out of land and made a 3k profit off doing that as well. After I threatened to report them unless they gave me my money back. They still made 3k off it though anyway.... Your not one to talk about getting to know anyone dear....

Amy and Memnoch and Amelie and Kyrah have put a LOT of work into the Beverly hills sim. Its changed for the better. And frankly looks a heck of a lot nicer now. And --- gasp--- You can actually walk around in it without getting lagged out the butt. The place looks great. No body got screwed out of it happening. I also remember you Lensey putting a sign in Beverly hills saying your sim was gonna kill Beverly hills? Bet you would have been a great neighbor to. rofl Good riddance.... Better that you aren't around there to cause more trouble or have a friend of yours copy the buildings ;)

Business and drama, wow. I would never invest anything serious in SL until we have binding contracts and certain basic regulations. And since I'm not sure contract law and regulations are right for SL, I guess that means it will continue to be a place to relax and express myself.

I quite agree. And reading this thread, I'm trying to learn everything I can to avoid these mistakes as I start my mall on the island in Ross, former site of Catherine Cotton's Christmas factory. I'm calling it Pharos Island now and architects are building a replica of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria.

I'm planning to have a mixture of mall, residential, park, club on this sim and the one right next door in Refugio where I also have property.

I have taken out year-long subscriptions and I am committed to sticking with this project mainly because I want to learn one thing: is it possible for groups of people to cooperate on land for mixed purposes to their mutual satisfaction? I don't expect to do more than break even on this experiment.

Here's what I would like to do, and those who have been shaken loose from other malls are welcome to join me:

-- offer higher prim limits and lower rents as loss-leaders
-- offer low-rent land and land for occupancy for just tier donation -- we will pay you to donate tier so we can build the community!
-- relentlessly consumer-test structures to see if they are convenient and meet the criteria Milo Bukowski and others have talked about -- flyability, easy entrance, quick-rez, etc.
-- provide vendors with easy systems and be available to serve them
-- have teleports to shops and directories of services and whatever innovative features we can think up to help shoppers.

Since I am not trying to have franchises all over SL and lots of annexes, etc. as other mall owners, I am willing to put the attention into this one.

Why am I doing this? Because since I came to SL, I have yet to be able to find a decent pair of shoes (well except for my Sonic Kicks of course but you need more than one pair). I haven't found a decent pair of pants or a couch that I'd actually like to look at for more than a day. And many other things. It's hard to shop in SL. You bang into buildings landing in them, the stuff doesn't rez, you crash, you can't figure out the vendor, it doesn't work, blah blah. There's no efficient in-game advertising system because so many people are afraid of capitalism as they see its glaring excesses that they don't realize that the answer is more capitalism, i.e. more investments to create more competition and better products with less environmental impact.

I think SLExchange is great and I am happy to work in tandem with them, I think people will still want malls and they'll also want to shop at SLExchange especially on their lunch hours and we should provide both.

If you would like to help this experiment along, join me!

You have issues with Zoey not me. She asked me to ban you cause you were stalking her and afraid you would start neg rating her. To avoid problems, I banned you as she asked. Thats what friends do.

"Rodeo Drive" was there long before Beverly Hills, Refer to this post: /120/d5/29063/1.html #26
As for posting some sign in my sim about her sim.. That never happened. That would be advertizing for her..

If I was stalking her why was she following me around when I was trying to avoid her?? And I just got this: Lensey Roark rated you negatively: You are a lier.

Im not lieing about a thing. Whats the matter Lin? Truth sting? lmao And frankly If I would have wanted to neg rate her I could have a number of times now. Including when she flew up to me in Beverly hills .... Nice try throughing out the stalking card. But it does fall flat on its face. Like you and your bullcrap.. Would you like to tele me so you can tel your friend and have them neg rate me to? Thats how you and her like to operate isn't it? *flips bird*

Ok. I'll take your word on it, but that leaves me scratching my head as to why we were given a complimentary store spot in the first place. Ay well... guess its one of the mysteries of second life.

Wow. you nailed it on the head with your keen observations of "alot of you ppl". Of course I can only speak for myself.... I guess these would be the reasons I joined the Live Help group... opened a store in Indigo to showcase around 40 other designers works... why i am embarking on a featured designer of the month series... spoke at a friends class last week on clothing design & business... why i have met numerous SLer's in RL.... oh and how could I forget working for VERTU raising money for real world charities through SL.

Because its all for my personal gain in using people and talking sh*t about them. My gawd now I see what a shallow and self-absorbed person I am.

Amen!! As long as players are anonymous, the Lindens would have to dictate and arbitrate some sort of contract system. None of my hard earned $$$ are coming here without that.

Tyrants like you are ruining SL we all know the way you take advantage of ppl's good nature while NEVER allowing us to upskirt you on tuesdays. you have single handedly destroyed every mall sim ever, we blame you Jenn, for your desire to want good communication and stable places for retailers to sell items from. How dare you! Your admirable efforts to benefit the SL community don't fool us we know your secretly getting covert linden financing. I have it on good authority you recieved cookies once for your actions with VERTU (to go with the milk from the cow I believe)

Me evil?? PFFFFFFT Tyrant?? You flatter me.

Ferran is one to talk about tyranny. Like all Ferran does is clog peoples inventory up with random perverted things. And even worse she takes UP Pants photos of unsuspecting people for her own devious needs.
And Surreal is the worst of them all she never allows flipper to wear pants. All pants are to be pre-approved by Surreal therein they are thus determined wearable. All violations by subject will be carried out by cruel and unusual means to be deteremined by Gen Grace.
