From: Maggie Miller The biggest offender is, of course, CUA...who doesn't pronounce his name the way we all hear it in our heads "QUE-UH", but pronounces it "SEE-YOU-A," as in the letters. Not totally Maggie, as I read this first line (and I have no idea who CUA is), I imagined it as SeeYouA, 'cos it's all caps, see?. Que-uh? nah!! ps. troy: rhymes with bouy (well, it does where I live )

What Paolo said...
01-28-2005 05:31
Lets see... I think Paolo should be pronounced.... hand-sum (who cares what he says) Needless to say with all these interesting spellings and pronounciations running amuck... why not call us anything, afterall this is our fantasy isn't it?? My name is very easy Beta-- ba (the e which sounds like our long a) ta (the a is more like ahhhhh) Rubio-- roo (as in kanga--) bee (as in a stinger) ohhhh (as in oh what a stinger) TC y'all and see you in game... From: Paolo Portocarrero Oh, mine's a no-brainer. Pow' (as in what happens to you when you taunt me) - Low (as in how you feel after the pow) Porto (as in potty) - car (as in give me yours) - rare' (as in I am so very) - o (the face you show after being with me) Paolo rawks. Yay me!

Beau is not as in Beautiful, it is pronounced "Bo"
I'm glad I had a chance to clear this up because so many people make comments to me about what type of guy would call himself beautiful.

Reitsuki is pronounced exactly like it's spelled, it's just that the stresses and timing is odd. It's not "ray-t-soo-key"... It should sound closer to "retski", except the t is almost-but-not quite silent, like the T in "tzar". All the vowels are fairly short, the entire thing should sound sorta clipped.
Kojima is sorta like Reitsuki... It's prounced how it's spelled, but that still doesn't make it easy easy... "Koh-ji-mah", stressed like "koJIma", and again with short, clipped vowels.
And the shortened form is my name is Rei, damnit, not Reit. R-e-i, pronounced like "Ray", more or less, not "Rayt". It's two words. Rei (Lost soul or spirit) - Tsuki (Moon).
It's derived from my long-time DnD/MUD/Everquest/DaoC/World of Warcraft character "Tsyr Soulmoon". I use "Tsyr" or "Soulmoon" most places for forum names and such, but wanted something pseudo-realistic to go with my last name.

My first name is pronounced "The Other" Shiv-Awn Last name, pretty straightforward, although, I wish LL had put in an apostrophe....... O'Flynn, instead of the way they chose to spell it "OFlynn"

Pro-KO-fy
The accent is on the second syllable.
It's a Russian name. Most people only know it from Prokofiev, the composer.
It was my father-in-law's patronymic. It sounds old-fashioned even to the Russian ear.
With this name, I land myself in the first 10 replies on a Google search for "Prokofy" hehehe.
There are various Prokofys in Russian literature, Chekhov, Tolstoy, etc., they are often footmen or coachmen.
Here's one of Tolstoy's Prokofys, a handsome fellow wrongfully accused of horse-theft: "Prokofy had a rather proud nature, and thought himself superior to others. Prison was a great humiliation for him. He came out of it very depressed; there was nothing more to be proud of in life. And more than that, he felt extremely bitter, not only against Peter Nikolaevich, but against the whole world."

From: Cristiano Midnight Periodically people (YES I'm looking at you Pituca Chang) split my name at the T for some inexplicable reason, and call me Crist.
I guess it is because I have never known a Cristiano before! And I didn't want to just call you Cris, and Crist is preferable to what someother people call you. Y como soy pituca hago lo que quiero. Anyhoo Crist no matter what I love you anyway! Just what is the nickname for Cristiano in Latin American circles?
And the pronunciation of Pituca is "Pea-two-kah" with the accent on the two. And Chang? Rhymes with rang.

I really don't care how you say my name. As long as you spell it right when you are writing me a check.
It is REALLY weird calling LL and saying "Hi, it's Schwanson Schlegel" .

I've had plenty of people in voice chat that have tried to use the Spanish/Italian pronunciation for Artillo, but I pronounce it:
"Art-ILL-oh"
But most of my friends just call me Art or Arti or more recently (looks at Lady Belvedere) Tillo!
And of course for Simmy, she calls me her Pervy Git so that's all good!
PEACE!
Arti
