Has anyone read Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. I heard it was a good book about a guy who was constantly fighting these imaginary battles.

I don't know why I posted that here. I don't think it's relevant at all.

It's relevant. Tilting at windmills isn't that far off... but Don Quixote was at least likeable :p

I understand where you're coming from, but I think better comparisons could be made.

Don Quixote was an addled and confused old man who wandered the Spanish countryside imagining great battles and adventures. He was made weary by a world that no longer embraced The Greater Good, and he set out to return to the classical way of being a gentleman. Quixote was idealistic, gentle, and quite affable when among friends or his one true love.

So you see why the comparison isn't all that apt. :)

Yah, can we stop with the fucking lynch mob already.

We get it, he's got to stop making fun of other people... oh wait a sec, that's what you're doing.

Oh ok, it's fine when you do it but not when he does! Yah, you're a bunch of clever boys aren't you!

Well, keep this up and I guess you can at least get yet another Prok thread locked.

Prokofy, do you have a book/chapter for that Thoreau quote? I'm not entirely sure Thoreau actually said that. Is it possible you're thinking of John Morley? He wrote, "You have not converted a man, because you have silenced him," in Chapter V of On Compromise.

Wrong again, cognative dissonance boy. A lynch mob is a group of people who unjustly and for purely vengeful reasons pull someone out of the hands of justice and mete their own to them -- usually involving a hanging or running them over the ground by horse until there's nothing left but tatters.

Prokovy, on the other hand, is someone who consistantly and purposefully ties himself up, lays himself by a convenient tree or horse, and puts a big sign on his forehead that reads, "Please, lynch me, because otherwise, I have nothing to do and no sense of worth whatever."

I find I cannot fault anyone for obliging the (edited), and frankly, keep hoping the next round will be enough to sate Prokovy's need for abuse.

Alas, I am always wrong on that count.

As for you -- if you're not one of his alts, you're worse... a synchophant with sadistic tendencies. You're like a crow showing up at a roadkill... not content to pick the bones, you're caw and flap about in hopes of drawing another semi around the corner to roll over the carcass.

Not sure which of you is really 'worse'. In the end, it is all a rather disturbing bit of psychology.

I really wish you dysfunctional gits would go find a nice dominatrix to humiliate you and leave the rest of us alone. ~sigh~

"Clean up on Aisle 2. Dairy." (that's what I remember from my high school days working in a supermarket)

Seriously though. Prokofy, you are correct. Everyone, please stop.

Y'know, this thread has brought up good issues about group tools, specifically having to do with managing officers. These are the kinds of discussions that are critical to helping LL figure out what group management tools need tweaking or maybe revamping altogether.

Please...let's move beyond discussing individuals. Agree to disagree. We all have different styles of expressing ourselves here. Some people here are oil and water. Please make peace, and if that's not possible, just move on.

And in the spirit of famous quotes.....I remember a "motivational" poster in grade school in my home room. I have no idea who wrote it. And I never really understood it until many years later...

It said:

From: someone
Great minds talk about ideas.
Average minds talk about events.
Small minds talk about other people.

I'm not trying to be flippant, just trying to encourage people to be more constructive here. Thanks.

Well well well, if it isn't Prokovy trying to silence someone who is revealing the truth about him. Such lovely hypocrisy. Here, Prokovy, I wrote a poem just for you:

The little general strides to the summit; decked in foolish pride,
invective and challenge roaring forth like a lion.
You think to be more, better, different, dignified.
But your belching reveals you, simpleton,
and we chuckle, nay - laugh heartily at your ineptitude.

"You people," declared with a pompous snort,
manic ego in overdrive; redundant flair,
those who might have the insight you seek to court
laugh at the pouted lip, the aggressive stare.
Your diaper is wet again -- who is to blame, dear?

How pitiful the engagement; accusatory hysteria chimed;
badly drafted imagery delivered in unimaginative style,
the interest sloughs to nil like the runny egg of your mind.
Dreadfully plain paper decorates your creative domicile,
And your secret fears lie revealed; delicately pink and tender.

I wager your muse lies in her own filth and willingly splays,
for you would have nothing but the easy prize;
grasping greedily at her slack flesh, you spew and bray
not unlike an ass; roaming the land and foaming to fertilize
every spare acre his gut and bladder may be called to visit.

Self-aggrandizing idiot! You are a king among fools;
lacking even the sense to cringe in silence and shame;
you offer no better water to the shimmering pools
than this rancid spout of piss and moan, and blame?
How like the peacock you are to call so stridently for attention.

I yawn and wave you away. You boorish, boring child,
run along now. Perhaps when you're older,
wiser, interesting, profound, or I'm a little less unbeguiled
you will seem worth more than a literary adulterer;
skulking in the shadows, whispering lustful dreams of prolificacy.

I've always thought that using a famous quote to illustrate your point was a rather elitist and pretentious thing to do... appealing to a snobbish element by namedropping. And I've always thought that using an incorrect famous quote to illustrate your point to be rather amusing. But the topper is to insult the person who politely points out the error in the inaccurate quotation, implying that personal knowledge that is wrong is somehow better than researched information that is correct... that's just ridiculously laughable.

Ok... What was the subject again?

Oh Right!

Using the installed tools to grief others.

You know, saying that using the group tools to freeze a group's ability to function seem to look a lot like using the push script command to throw people 50 meters...

Both are using basic functions for a pourpous that it was not meant for...

I even ready somewhere in the thread that he was not even a part of the group, and only joined to do this... That does not sound like a legitimit use to me.

Do the tools really need editing though, or like push scripts, do the lindens just need to kick their tail for doing it? Punishment after the fact could work here, especially since there is a workaround.

Thoughts?

That WAS slow. It is no better to grief people on the forums like this person does, then holler for mommy when they get it back in spades.

If the attention whore can't take the heat maybe he should stay the hell out of the kitchen... instead of insisting everyone else leave.

Pathfinder Linden knows well of what I speak...

As to the topic at hand, doesn't it seem slightly strange to you that the only person who ever finds out how these tools can be abused is who it is?

At some point you just have to wonder... how much of it is made up? I mean we all know the guy has alts out his ears.... and has been demonstrated to use them to prop himself up here. Not too terrbily hard to imagine the same thing happening in-world.

As far as the tools themselves go, I just get the impression that LL doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about how their tools can be abused. Perhaps they should.

Don't explain to me. I just think tempting the fates is a poor judgment call... I myself would never risk censure over something so minor as a personality conflict...

And on the subject of considering abuse: I think they spend most of their time trying to figure out how items can bee used to damage a sim or breach security. That would be my priority.

After that, most of what they do is slap people who don't play nice. Seems fair to me...
