Since some don't like Sexy Contests, Should Sexual Content be taken out of SL?

From: Blake Rockwell I understand your point, however; Educational and other types of Events have been tried and from what I hear did not bring in the the people that the Sexy related Events did. I would think it is simply a demand issue; I mean, Educational Event Opportunities have always been there, so; you think the demand issue should be enforced with Educational Events, am I on track? I think a lot of people are mis-interpreting the distinction of "Educational" events. My understanding in this regard is that LL does not mean events for educational concepts on any arbitrary topic; they mean events which educate people about how to use the SL client and tools. They are not meant to be social events any more than colleges are built to be gathering places for social entertainment. I get the impression that some people think LL is trying to pass some kind of judgement on event content. I think people are making it sound like this was a strategic move to specifically stop funding mature events. That is not the case. The fact of the matter is, in the past (over a year ago) the average day had no more than 5 or 6 events scheduled. This left huge gaps throughout the day where there were *no* events going on. LL needed to give an incentive for people to start throwing more events so that people had things to do during their creative downtimes. The event sponsorships were made to do this. Today, that incentive is no longer needed, becuase now the population has grown large enough that there are always going to be events to go to at almost any time of day. They could have removed support for *all* events, but then that would probably reduce the number of active mentors and instructors. LL needs mentors and instructors to keep educating the flow of new residents on how to use SL, so they decided to keep sponsoring those events.

You know, nothing is stopping anybody from having ANY event; you can still host them, you just won't get paid by Linden for having them.
Remember, this change affects people who hold trivia, show and tell, primtionary and other contest-type events, as well. I really don't think people should interpret this change as the Lindens trying to rid the world of "wet T-shirt" and "best thong" events. They are simply paring down the scope of events they feel it is necessary for them to subsidize.

From: Siobhan Taylor No, is the answer. All people get is dwell, if people hang around long enough watching us script, or build, or use photoshop, gimp or psp ... So, you are stating that Merchant Properties DO NOT get Dwell compensation from Linden Labs.

From: Blake Rockwell So, you are stating that Merchant Properties DO NOT get Dwell compensation from Linden Labs. You didn't ask about content SELLERS, you asked about content CREATORS, and while there is overlap, it's not the same thing. I own and run a mall, so yes, I get dwell. Not enough to get RL$ from LL, but some. However, the creators selling on my property (with me as an exception) don't get compensated by LL for this. They just have a place to sell their goods which hopefully brings them good sales. My business is to make the mall a pleasent place to shop so my merchants make a profit. If they don't make a profit, they leave and I have no business. However, running a mall is NOT content creation. I do create content, but that's a completely different thing.

Only property gets dwell. You can create all the content that you want, you don't get dwell unless you plunk it down on land that you own.
As for primtionary and trivia and so on, those events would not be nearly as fun without the prize money. Sure, the games can be fun in themselves, but folks will go where they have a chance of getting some bucks--hence the folks who sit on walls near free-money balls, no matter how boring that may be.
So who is going to go to the trouble of hosting trivia when they only get about a tenth of a Linden in dwell payment for all their trouble? And who is going to go to such a contest with no prizes?
The event calendar will soon be nothing but clubs, casinos, and crowded games with pots.

From: Blake Rockwell Someone answer the question please, do you as a content producer get Dwell Subsidies from Linden Labs? Any player who owns land and gets someone to stick around receives dwell.

From: Blake Rockwell If Im not mistaken, Merchants get Dwell compensation from Linden Labs. Only if they actually own the land they are selling goods on Blake. If a person rents a stall in a mall (like Sio mentions), that person will NOT get dwell. They will only make money off their items that sell.

From: Siobhan Taylor You're mistaken. Land owners do, merchants don't. Ok, Land Owners which have Shops set up do. And can we conclude that some Land Owners that are Merchants do get Dwell Compensation

From: Blake Rockwell If Im not mistaken, Merchants get Dwell compensation from Linden Labs. Only if it is on land that they own - and dwell income from shopping generally is not that high unless you have a concentrated mall. The dwell generated in an average store generally would not even cover many texture uploads. The properties at the high end of the dwell pool suck up so much of it that what is split among places ultimately is rather tiny.

And can we conclude that some Land Owners that are Merchants do get Dwell Compensation I get dwell (now traffic) compensation when people come to my airstrip to look at my and Mary's aircraft. I belive it ads up to around L$75 a month. I get NO dwell compensation when they browse at any of my vendors. 'cause I don't GET dwell as a merchant, I get it as a land owner. What's your point?

No. People should host & attend the events they like regardless of whether or not everyone else approves. Whatever you do , do it because you enjoy it (as long as it's not harmful to anyone else) there's nothing wrong with it. we are all adults here (or are supposed to be) If someone doesn't like it they need not attend.

From: Willow Zander When exactly *waits tapping foot* He'll be starting a poll on whether merchants should be forced to pay club owners for stealing their dwell.
