I stopped by my property in Blue today to discover that someone who owns a good chunk of the sim decided it would be fun to put water in the middle of the sim and drag everyone else's land down with it. Honestly, I don't get why people are so inconsiderate to one another in SL. I may disagree with Prokofy on a lot of things, but he is right that there is a pervasive hedonistic attitude in SL, but it has nothing to do with the player's age. I am sure they are equally an asshole in RL too. It is the same thinking that causes someone to build a giant club or mall and lag the hell out of a sim and not care. Fuck everyone around you as long as you can do what you want on your land! The terraforming limits in newer sims had to be put in place precisely because certain people can't resist the urge to do something stupid. Now Blue has a giant hole in the middle of it, for no purpose other than to destroy a sim. Ah but it is their land, they can do what they want. Hooray for freedom without responsibility or courtesy.

I can't even begin to imagine why anyone would start doing this, see the effect it was having on all their neighbors land, and then continue to do so. Well..wait..i guess I can imagine..but it's still such a lamer and asshole-ish thing to do.

From: Beau Perkins Cristiano, is it a newer account who just did not know better? That's what I wondered. Also, sometimes certain things look different on certain peoples monitors. I modified my land once and left a big ditch between my neighbor and myself. I could never see it, but my neighbor could. He asked me to fix it, so I logged into my husbands computer and then I could then see what he was talking about and promptly fixed it. .

Maybe the group leadership is having a fight or something and it was done maliciously without consent. Or, the land was set to edit by mistake and someone else did it. Speculation is just that. Could be a number of things and it could be very temporary.

Loki, It is no accident or griefing - one of the principal officers in the group has a floating house build that was added after the land was dropped to the sea:

I think LL needs to seperate sims, "Resident sims" for homes, where no clubs or stores are at, and the rest "Community" where there is clubs and stores and all that good stuff Alot of complains about club lagging everyone in the sim, and stores. Almost all of the "Telehubs" in mainland sims are populated by mini malls who lags ppl when entereing a sim!!! grrr... lol This is a serious issue.. LOL

Ooooo. That IS a mess.
Just another reason I feel so lucky to live on the lovely and peaceful land designed by Nexus Nash and Adam Zais and anyone else who helped. (As was their land I lived on previously.)
Residential zoned Sims - you can't beat em, at least if my experience is any guideline.

The terraformability of the sim seems to be what allows this group to affect the neighboring parcels.

The point I made about clubs/malls is that a lot of times, their owners also similarly don't care how they affect the rest of the sim.

A working conspiracy theory would be that they're trying to drive out the others in the sim so they can buy up the land. Would be pretty dirty if you ask me.

. I wasn't aware of this. I I'm curious if there's any way to tinker with SL settings to get a worse-case scenario on how my terraforming might look to someone else? Like you, I always leave a boundery area so I don't strech neighboring land (or put them up against a striped wall or cliff. It never occurred to me that it may look different on someone else's machine!

It is true that the world looks different per machine. The "world" is just a bunch of settings streaming from a server. What we see and call the world is generated (drawn) by our local clients and can be radically different depending on the type of equipment we have.
The thing that drives me crazy is the display of ground textures. One of my machines will show lovely grass when I terraform an area; then I'll log in using the other one and see mostly dirt. The Linden trees can look a lot different as well. You just never know how others are going to see the thing syou work so hard to perfect.
I can't log in again.

coco Zoned Sims are ok for those people who enjoy opression and a Pleasantville lifestyle, some people like freedom. Anyway, this sim, Blue is a commercial sim. There is someone on the sim who had an issue with a previous land owner on the sim. That person has been acting a complete ass for months, but has left most of the rest of us unaffected. I went to visit my store in the area, wondering why the traffic was suddenly so low and the sales had dropped and I saw this mess. There was no need to terraform the land, the land in the area is perfectly flat and perfect for building stores. Someone bought land in a commercial sim near a telehub and decided to make it a house. Ok. Whatever. Hopefully they get bored.

I'm amazed at how little people know about SL history... Blue, a commercial sim? George Busch must be rolling in his grave! That sim was part of the themed sim program... where we built Americana. It was the coolest build on SL for a while, but the taxes kinda killed it. You can still see Club Sinatra in Shipley.

At the time the original griefing started a few months ago, the sim was commerical. The sim is currently commercial. We aren't talking about the past we are talking about right now.

Get your head out of the Wiki, Eggy - this is about the sim currently - it is mostly commerical. I know all about the history of Blue, what on earth does it have to do with this situation? Nothing.
