Sick of minors on SL

Cliffs Notes of the original poster for people hoo cant reed well:

1. Minors leave prims and stuff all over other people's land.

2. Minors can't spell.

3. Minors bad.

4. Salem pissed at minors.

5. LL needs another way to verify people's ages.

6. The teen grid is worthless in terms of keeping teens out of regular SL and also adults will be able to get into the teen grid.

8. I was involved with someone I just found out was really 14 so now I am shocked that this could happen.

There is only one point that I would wholly agree with, and that is point 5.

I also do not believe minors should be in SL, mostly for legal reasons and the possibility of molestation etc, and I know that LL is full aware of the risks. It's silly to accuse me or panda of immaturity just because I think you all are wrong on many counts. You guys take yourselves wayyyyyy too seriously.

Not to get into a huge thing with this, but 16 and 17 year-olds aren't going to be scarred for life from someone online trying to rub their pixels. I know, I know. There's a lot more that could happen, it goes into RL sometimes, etc. etc. etc. Whatever. Teenagers can take care of themselves. They're not as stupid as you may think.

I'm sorry, but I think that's the problem here. People forget what it was like to be a minor. It was recent for me, so I can empathize with them, but it's all too easy to just say, "Well, it doesn't affect me, so I don't really care." whether one realizes it or not.

I repeat, I DO NOT ADVOCATE MINORS ON THE GRID. But I do remember being automatically written off as stupid, annoying, immature, hedonistic, what have you. And I wasn't.



There is not a big red sign above minors' heads that says "I M A MINOR LOOL" so you do not know that the people causing trouble are, in fact, minors. And if you do, then you should be filing abuse reports. I am 18 and I do not leave things around in the Sandboxes. In fact, I try not to use them at all, because I, too, dislike the maturity level of some of the people who frequent those places.

But I don't come to the forum and whine about things I imagine to be true.

Credit cards work to siphon out most folks under 18. Age-verification stuff is almost next-to-impossible. Sure, one can send in a copy of a drivers license/id/etc... but who's to say they just didn't photocopy their parent's/friends/sibling's ID? Plus, an ID-based registration system gets annoying when you're, say -- living in the UK or somewhere across an ocean from San Fran. 2 weeks to sign up for SL? Nah.

Honestly, I think the current setup is good enough. If you're underage and you get found out, you're out. Kinda like a bar. Heh.

My theory is that the problem is actually miners. Constantly leavin' their crap around prospectin' sites, diggin' holes all over the place. Most of 'em can't read or write, they're just lookin' for gold in the sandboxes... We've gotta do somethin' about miners.

When I said "little" it means "Younger". He's 25, I'm 31. He's the little brother. I'm the big brother. And I was just saying these things to get a point across. It evidently showed the Lindens in this thread some of the minors that need to be ejected from SL and others that throw temper tantrums and harrass people when they lose the discussion.

Don't worry, Nickolaii, I do not mean you. Nickolaii, you are the only one that admitted to being 18 on here and still acts mature enough to handle being in this environment. My hat's off to you for being a mature example to why 18 year olds can possibly be mature.

I am serious in this post. You are a great example of how 18 year olds should act like adults. Just because "teen" is in the word eighteen doesn't give a 18 year old the go ahead to behave like a teen. Eighteen year olds are adults. Adults should act like adults and know when it's appropriate to be funny and when to be serious and courteous to others. I hold you up as a person that has made that decission at a young age to be an adult.
