 Here are a few things I noticed about minors, first of all they leave their junk everywhere after building, they don't clean up their mess. Second they can't spell worth a damn. It's just getting on my nerves, LL needs to find another way to verify peoples ages when they sign up, but how? The teen grid won't help at all, they're on the adult grid now they'll keep coming to the adult grid, and what about pedophiles posing as teens on the teen grid. It's just a bad idea as well.  -------------------- Cliffs Notes of the original poster for people hoo cant reed well: 1. Minors leave prims and stuff all over other people's land. 2. Minors can't spell. 3. Minors bad. 4. Salem pissed at minors. 5. LL needs another way to verify people's ages. 6. Indeed. Well we could turn this into a rant thread.  Anyway this is crazyness, we've reported two 11 year olds in the past. ELEVEN and on second life. The scary part is one of them was asking me where they could get laid on the game. Wtf? o.O You can usually tell by their mentality, like I said leaving junk everywhere, spelling every other word incorrectly, oh and they're real trigger happy as well, there are lots of them in the sandboxes. Scary. |

I totally agree with Salem.
Liden Labs please wake up. You all think you'll be able to keep adults out the teen grid??? I mean come on. You can't keep teens out the adult grid now. All these teens have to do is beg mommy or daddy to purchase them a basic account and there are alot of parents out there that will say "Screw the 18 years old rule. I want to get my son a Second Life account even though he's 12." or there are a lot of teens that hack and steel credit card numbers from the web. How can Liden Labs really stop this? So how will they be able to stop ADULTS from going in the teen grid. Having the teen grid is just creating a time bomb, you are unknowingly creating a game so that PEDOPHILES can meet teens that would like to cyber sex adults. And again how will you keep the Adults out of the teen grid. After all you'll need a credit card to get in. And if you were to call the phone given to verify the age of the new teen grid player all the adult would have to do is "LIE" their butt off to Linden Labs. "Oh yes, I got the teen grid account for my nephew." How can Linden Labs really be dellusional to think this won't occur?

Sorry, I know you mean well, but as an 18 year-old, this sort of offends me. I don't think I'm pushing it when I say I spell better than most of my friends in SL, most of whom are much older than myself. And, no, I don't leave my junk everywhere after building. I'm one of the few people I know that actually picks up everything before they leave an area. It wouldn't be fair to the sim owners if I left crap all over. I'd like to think I'm more responsible and mature than a lot of people, regardless of age. And, surprising as it may be, that didn't happen suddenly as soon as I became "legal".  Yes, a lot of minors are rude, obnoxious, childish, have no sense of grammar or punctuation whatsoever, and only care about what's good for them in the moment. But a lot of non-minors are like that as well. So I urge you to reconsider your sweeping generalizations and/or targeting of minors specifically. Thanks. |

If you're 18 how does it offend you? You're not a minor. It's not just the spelling and the actions, but I've found out someone I was going to get involved with on SL was fourteen supposedly and I found out from people they knew. You see what I'm saying? There is just nothing good about little kids on second life. They lie and just cause trouble and I don't know why you're offended. |

Unfortunately, I know some adults in SL suffer from Salem's accusations too. I think the 18+ rule has to do with the content in SL, not maturity. IIRC, the provider of said content is liable for who it is distributed to. If there's someone underage in a place where 18+ content exists, and the provider is has factual knowledge of the individual's age, they're indeed responsible for removing the individual from the world. Certainly, I know a few older minors (16-17) who are capable of handling most of the mature content in SL, but even with parental consent, the provider can still be held responsible. One of those silly US things. I've referred a few folks to the teen grid, who are mostly interested in creating content and learning LSL. I'll be interested to see what they do when they hit the main grid, since they're going to have a head start in experience with the tools. I think if the teen grid becomes a hotbed of Salem's problems, those teens who are serious about transferring to the main grid at 18 might build up a hefty tolerance to these types of individuals. I'll be glad to meet the teenigrants. |

It's offending to me because I recently -was- a minor. And when I was, I was not like any of the things described by Salem. So, I mean, yes, I'm not a minor anymore, but it's still offending to my past. I think your angry tone towards minors has a lot to do with you recently losing someone close to you (that 14 year-old), and now you feel ashamed that you "fell for it", so you're turning that around and just getting angry at all young people. That's understandable, but not healthy. I would suggest, as concerned person, that you look through the events again and come to a conclusion other than "All minors suck. WTF." I mean, anyone would come to something resembling that at first if they were lied to. But it's important to not make generalizations based on one or a few people. Anyway, I hope that you are okay, Salem. It's no fun being lied to. |

Did you read the terms of Service. You have to be 18 or older to play Second Life. Minors, by the Lindens' rule, cannot be on this game. So if you are defending minors being here, then I suggest you read your terms of service. Also it's what Salem and Devlin said. If you are 18, how does this offend you. You, by United States governmental decree, are an adult. If you are defending friends of yours on Second Life that you know to be under 18 to be able to be on Second Life, dude, read your Terms of Service again and protect your friends from the pedophiles that prey upon children and molest them only causing the minor grief and pain later in life. Check the web on this issue. Thousands and thousands of children are scarred for life by a pedophile that molested them when they were under 18. My little brother was molested when he was little. He's 25 now and still has problems having a relationship with women. He's too afraid to let any in because a pedophile he trusted when he was little molested him. That's why the Terms of Service reflect the government laws of the United States. No minors in an Adult environment where sexual situations can occur. So please do not advocate minors being on this game. Protect the minors and report them to the customer service at Linden Labs. |

Thanks for your condolences for my little brother. However to say I need to use my return key after reading what I said and posting this, really makes me wonder if you missed my point. It's nothing to do with the 14 year old, that is just another example of why LL needs to figure a way to handle this better. I barely knew this person and am not at all upset as I was on the sl rebound anyway. Just another example. Honestly I don't want to offend you or anyone else except minors because they have no place on this game. It's not just the maturity factor, it's a lot of things. Lots of adults on this game are immature at times, me included, but if I had an 11 year old I would NOT want them on this game seeing the stuff I see. o.O |

Re-read what I said please and see if you can get the point I was trying to make. Your point accused Nikolaii of not reading the ToS. She is well aware of the 18 and over age limit, thanks. And anyway, you're missing HER point -- the very valid point that she was a 17-year-old not so long ago. Did she suddenly realize how to spell correctly at the stroke of midnight? Did she realize how to use the "Take" option in the pie menu when cleaning up prims? She is offended because of the implication that all minors are rude little jerks running around with machine guns, and she is using herself as an example of an exception. Your sidenote about child molestation, while valid in other instances, has no bearing here. And no one said anything about wanting to allow minors in SL.

Nicolaii's post is a response to a generalization about minors, not about the presense of minors in SL. There are many good reasons for not having minors in SL. Sweeping generalizations about them not cleaning up after themselves and inability to spell are not among them. |
