Yes, that's a good point. It's a shame that these two threads, one about negrating ugly obstruction builds, and Pahoa's thread about her grievances, got inextricably mixed, and in fact Pahoa even got her grief in part because she first read a previous forum THEN reacted to my request in-world with that baggage... ...So to be clear once again, I haven't engaged in public individual or group negrating, what I have done is raised for public discussion the appropriateness of negrating ugly lag builds that force people to move, and also raised for public discussion whether such builds that so inflict pain on people and the landscape shouldn't be targed by group negrates. That was pretty much my fault Prokofy. You'd previously raised the issue for discussion in a thread about zoning and I thought it correlated well with the root issue raised in Pahoa's thread. Apologies for the hyperbole and taking the other thread off on a tangent. It's just an issue that has come up often and that I enjoy debating. I disagree pretty strongly with your opinion on the subject but I wasn't trying to tar and feather you. _____________________

Actually, Jauani, if someone doesn't want you to fly over their land...

I've owned one plot of land in the year I've been here. I've had... a club that, at the time, was the second most popular in SL, I've had two malls, a giant glowing purple castle, a sex shop that glowed brilliant red, and a giant plywood half-built building amongst others.
Right now, my sim looks great. I'm not moving for anything. _____________________

But I suspect he means a llTeleportAgentHome() that catches people just flying over... _____________________

I've never moved in my life to escape an ugly building, although I have lived next to many. I truly don’t mind what other people do on their land, as usually the "ugly (IMHO)" buildings last less then a week before the land is for sale again. As for people's rights, I believe that your building rights end at the edge of your property. As many wouldn’t like to think, people have the right to build almost anything they wish, may that be a large animal, or a 768m black box of a tower.
As for flying rights I believe any security script should be allowed as it isn’t in direct flying height (cloud level on most sims). If you have a secure area that is higher, it should be clearly marked for the high flying pilots. - Sam _____________________

The answer in SL is still buy the view. Or get together with some likeminded people and create a community view.

First of all, not everyone can afford paying big bucks for a big tier that allows them artistic building in spite of prim limitations, second, no one has the right to tell his neightboor what to build. Everyone has the right to move or to offer help to his neightbor in building or even to ask their neightbors to sell them their land.
I started small, to build my shop, maybe it was a big ugly, with his cubic appearence and the prim efficent prefabricated shape. No one of my neightbors ever complained, but if they did i would have just told them "give me a better solution in my range of options, if you cant, mind your land and let me work in mine" Now that i can afford a bigger tier and a bigger land, i tore the old building down, moved to a better location of the sim, with linden land on three sides, and begun learning. My building is still big (much bigger actually) but maybe less ugly (and i'm making an effort to learn and make it better every day). It anyway suits my tastes, so if any potential neightbor would come complaining about it, he/she would have to offer a solution that suits MY tastes better, not his/hers. Right in front of my balcony i have probably the ugliest purple cubic mall i ever seen, but i don't go to the owner to bitch on him, nor i would neg rate him. It's his land, and he gets to do whatever he wants. On the opposite side there is an immense shop without a roof that somewhat resembles a Borg cube, not exactly something i like to see when i wake up, but hey, its prim efficent and suits the needs of its owner, so why complaining? On other two sides there are two very well made gothic buildings, one is a mall and one is a shop, they offer me a nice sight when i look out of the windows. End of the story and back to the starting point, if you feel you are the best builder of the world, go work as a designer in real life, otherwise don't try to impose your sense of tastes on your neightbor, they can just be newbie builders, have limited prims (remember, prims COST and a lot) or they can simply have different tastes/needs than you. It's their land, though luck. _____________________

You are trying tell us that setting one's own land as no fly is abuse-reportable? You HAVE to be kidding or not telling the whole story, right? sorry, korg - here's te complete story... i was flying around as i tend to do, exploring and evil land baroning. then i got teleported. i went back to the are and got teleported again. luckily, being an evil land baron i owned land in the vicinity and set it as home. i then made certain who was teleproting me at 250 m altitude and reported that land owner to LL. next time i logged in the land was fly safe. here is a copy of the message i sent LL to facilitate others in filing abuse reports. Abuse: pvp teleport abuse this player has a script on my neighbouring property that is teleporting me to my home position. i do not know who this person is or what they are about. these scripts are making it impossible for me to reach my land as they are invisible and i am unable to avoid them. this is grief! _____________________

I left my first land because some charming fellow rented a shop stall in the outdoor mall behind me and put up an 10 meter Perfect Penis billboard right behind my house needless to say I got tired of looking at a badly made pixel peepee every day day in and day out

i bought about 600 sqm in lusk, september 03, and now own most of the surrounding 1.5 sims.. i jus stuck it out, everyone else eventually moved and i was able to expand. Of course this doesn necessarily come *cheap* per se but it has made for a rather attractive core theme build for SL (luskwood)

You're lucky they haven't reported you to a Linden if the trees are sticking over onto their land. I had a friend with a 1024 whose neighbor put a tree up on her property line that stuck clear into his house. She was offended when he asked her to move it. Now if you are using flat primmed trees that don't extend over your property line, then cool.. I have a RL friend who uses exactly that strategy to cope with some really annoying neighbors -- she has to wait for them to mature to get maximum benefit.. Surreal |

I bought most of the land in another sim and waited for ugly to move out of Federal, which it so kindly did. Then I bought a lot of their land

Didn't realize that your intention was to get me to move by placing them there. Thats sweet of you... Happy new year! |

what ould hepl sl is if they started zoning areas as commercial residential mature and so on so you wont have the urban nightmare of living next you a place where they can start shooing at any minute, lagg the server\crash it, and have excessive parties.
its fine to have parties but its better to have a general theme in areas this ways you can experince good content people have some good stuff out htere but you cant find it because its not in a popular place or its plain laggy. ps clubs nowadays are just huge boxes with stripper poles in them. |

I have a RL friend who uses exactly that strategy to cope with some really annoying neighbors -- she has to wait for them to mature to get maximum benefit.. Surreal I had that issue with a neighbor. Her trees were coming into my store, but instead of moving them back a meter or two, she came over and insisted they didn't intrude. Between her graphics settings being too low to see the full trees and the wind blowing them back whenever she came over, it was quite an ordeal to get them moved. I finally had to offer to take screenshots! And I have moved to avoid ugly. We had a lot of really nice land in Brown, but between the Lindens not enforcing the building codes there and being surrounded by sandboxes in Argent and Celadon it was like being in the middle of Uglytown. _____________________
