If you are new to SL and need a little extra cash to get you going, visit the Money Tree!

Click the L$1 bills that grow on the tree and you will get L$1. Now and then you will find fruit growing on the tree: Banana = L$5, Apple = L$10, Cherries = L$20. Everything grows back, so stop by often. You must be less than 60 days old.

The tree is at Selby(10,10).

Older than 60 days? Grab a landmark and hand them out to new users.

Want a tree to call your own? No problem, I plan to release this as a FREE item after a couple days of testing.

Want to Donate? Great - just visit the tree, right click and Pay any amount. Your name will be put on the Donor's List automatically. In fact, the only time the tree will bear fruit is when it has donations. Otherwise it just sprouts L$1 bills (from my stipend).

Why would you do this? The recent economic changes may leave a little less money in the pockets of our new users. This is my way of giving back to the community. Each month my full base stipend (L$2,000 / month) will be automatically distributed to the new user base via this tree.

I remember it from the first one... w00t!
Let me know when it's ready to give out... I could probably cope with having one on my land.

Excellent -- How many prims? I would be willing to plant a tree if it doesn't kill my prim allotment. ;-)

What a wonderful idea, I only wish I was under 60 Days, lol. However, I do plan on stopping by and donating. I am quiet new and I can remember what it is like not to have money as a noob. Kudos to you!!

Hah! The money tree is back! Too bad it's not in it's original position in Tan. That would have been sweet.

Hey thanks all. Yep this is Money Tree #2. Some of you may remember it from way back when in Tan. Well it is all updated and snazzy. Seemed like a good time to bring it back. I rebuilt it from the ground up to be used by anyone. Detailed notes on ownership will be posted soon. Just ironing out the bugs and ensuring owner's financial safety.

Thanks all. Yep this is Money Tree V2. Some of you may remember it from way back when in Tan. This seemed like a good time to bring it back. I started from scratch this time to make it easy for others to own their own. I will post detailed notes on ownership soon. I am just ironing out the little bugs and double checking security. Follow this post for news.

Thanks Sio for the donation!

I will either donate or put one on my land, I will also hand out landmarks to newbies. . I used this quite a bit when I was new, it really helped me out alot. I'm glad to see it's back.

Now that's even better than extending an olive branch, after all the craziness on here!

I probably won't take advantage of it, even though I'm less than 30 days old... But that is mighty generous of you!

My only problem is this: It reinforces the idea to newbies that they should be able to get money just for being here... ....Danger, danger! :-P I would politely suggest that the Money Tree tells newbies where the money is coming from (i.e. generous donations of private SL citizens), when they distribute it to players.

Everytime I get frustrated with the crazies on the forums, you folks remind me why this place is so awesome!

Take care,

Tread,

Each tree has a big "Sponsored By: " sign and a big "Top Donors" and "Last Donor" sign. All of which update automatically.

Money Trees will be available in a few days. They will be FREE. I will make them available at Selby(10,10) and also on SLExchange. Here are the long winded details on ownership:

From: someone
Money Tree
===========

So you want to own a money tree?
--------------------------------------
Good for you! This is a great way to give back to the SL community. Only new users (less than 60 days old) may pick from your tree. So your money is going to help new users get off to a good start.

* What is it going to cost me?
L$2,016 a month - basically your base stipend of L$500/week (as of 1/12/05). This money goes directly to the newbies. I get 0.
The tree itself is free.

* How many prims is it?
The base tree is only 6 prims.
But, as the tree rezzes more money and fruit, the prim count goes up. The max at any one time is between 144 and 244. Now those numbers are based on nobody picking. If you have newbies actively picking, you should stay around 6 prims. If you have less prims available, that is OK. It will just stop rezzing until the prim count drops below max. My suggestion is to just dedicate a 512 sq. m. plot to it if you can.

* I own a large parcel / island. Will it just keep rezzing forever if nobody picks from it?
No. Each L$1 bill and piece of fruit rezzed will drop from the tree after it is 24 hours old. This makes it easier for the newbies to find it. After being on the ground for 24 hours, it will delete itself. So the max prims generated by the tree is self limiting.

* Is it safe? Can somebody steal all my Lindens?
I can't guarantee anything. But, I will say that I have coded LSL and built money related objects in SL for over a year. I have never had one of my systems hacked. But, in the end, you take the risk.

* How can I give away more?
Just right click on the Money Tree and Pay any amount. You will be paying yourself. But the system will now start bearing fruit, thus giving out the amount you just donated over time.

Setup
-------
Right click on your land and choose Create.
Click on the little tree in the toolbox.
Now click on the ground. You now have a tree.
If you don't like that tree, right click on it, choose More..., choose Delete.
The tree tool gives you a different type of Linden tree each time, experiment.
Now you have a tree.
Rez your Money Tree. Accept the permissions dialog box that comes up.
Place the base (circular part) around the trunk of the tree.
You may want to bury it in the ground a bit to get all the outside markers in the ground.
Now you have to adjust the system so that the L$1 bills and fruit show in the leafy part of your tree.
Type 'show' and a big white box appears showing you where things will be rezzed.
Type 'height #.#' where #.# is a value like 3.0. Anything between 1.0 and 9.9 will work.
Type 'radius #.#' where #.# is a value like 1.0. Anything between 1.0 and 5.0 will work.
You want to use these 3 commands to get your box to fit in the canopy of your tree.

That's it! Just let it be. Just make sure you keep a good amount in your account (see Notes below).

Displays
---------
There are 4 display podiums around the base.

Instructions Display:
Sponsored By: <your name>
Money in Tree: <value> (This is the total amount of money up in the tree. As newbies click on them, this number goes down.)
(Click) clicking on this podium will give the following instructions:

Object whispers: The Money Tree is a way for NEW players to get free Lindens.
Object whispers: The Sponsor has been kind enough to share their weekly stipend.
Object whispers: Look in the tree for Lindens and fruit. Click on each one.
Object whispers: Lindens pay L$1, Bananas pay L$5, Apples pay L$10, Cherries pay L$20
Object whispers: 3 Lindens grow every hour. Fruit grows randomly based on donations.
Object whispers: If you wish to donate, Right Click / Pay any amount.

Donor Display:
Top 3 Donors (Lists the top 3 donors sorted by most to least, showing their name and amount donated)
Last Donor: (Name of the last donor and amount)

Recipients Display:
Last 3 Recipients (Lists the last 3 newbies to pick from the tree and how much they received)

Financials Display:
Total Donated: (The overall total amount of donations)
Remaining Donations: (The amount of donations left to give out. As newbies click on fruit this number goes down.
When it reaches 0, the tree stops bearing fruit. It will continue to sprout L$1 Bills.)
Total Paid out: (This is the total amount paid out in donations and from your stipend via L$1 Bills.)

Financials
-----------
The tree will generate 1 L$1 bill every 20 minutes. That is 3 / hour, 72 / day, 504 / week, 2,016 / month.

If you or someone else donates to the tree, it will begin bearing fruit. It will continue to bear fruit until the donation balance reaches 0.
Every 20 minutes it has a 33% chance of a Banana (L$5).
Every 20 minutes it has a 25% chance of an Apple (L$10).
Every 20 minutes it has a 5% chance of a Cherry (L$20).
Running the numbers on this, I estimate a L$10,000 donation will last about 1 month.
Or you can just say donations will be handed out at approximately L$333 / day (L$395 / day including the base L$1 funds).

Notes
------
All of the funds are going into and coming out of YOUR account. Maintain a base amount of at least 500 plus the value shown as "Remaining Donations: ".

Owner takes full responsibility for the tree. Every effort has been made to make this system secure and consistent. But in the end, the creator takes no responsibility for financial loss by the owner.

All numbers are approximate. Since the donation payouts are based on a random number, payouts rates of donated money may be significantly faster or slower. Your base L$1 Bill stipend payout rate is constant however.

Don't manually delete L$1 Bills or Fruit. They are meant to fall to the ground after 24 hours and rot(die) after 48 hours. Deleting them will throw your stats off. If this happens, note your "Remaining Donations:", delete your tree and all L$1 Bills and Fruit. Rez a new tree. Donate the amount you noted earlier to ensure all donations are paid out properly.

I'd love one of these trees when they are ready. I get a pretty steady stream of newer folks coming through my place, and this would be a nice treat for them.
