Marcos is a great guy if you can get past the constant farting.

Hmmm I seem to recall talking with marco's while on your porch and the only one farting was you

Marcos, if you said something negative about clubs and then gamed out that I'd be sure to notice that, I hope you have a guilty conscience. Because your customers who buy your avatars wear them to clubs, so you ought to be a little bit more tolerant.

I have already stated that I dislike clubs because of lag. I am not "intolerant" of clubs, I simply choose not to go to them very often because of the lag. Occasionally I'll even *gasp* GO to a club if a friend invites me.

I simply noticed that others mentioned disliking clubs and I mentioned to a couple friends that it would probably set you off, which it did. :D

It wouldn't matter who they featured. People would still complain. Such is the way of the world.

Like clockwork.

And I STILL can't find a third Aimee spot on the SL website.

well..that may not be so true. If they featured a mix of newbs and old timers it would have been better. But from what i can see, they really did choose the imaginary leadership of the FIC, along with some more normal FIC members, 99% of which would be considered old-timers.

It isn't really a fair slection of residence in all honesty, but it does do what it is designed to do, which is to promote the business/money making possibilities of SL.

Well..no one interviewed me, and since I am by far the most interesting and worthy AV running around SL, I know that it was indeed a favoritism thing.

I think I'll do one in protest anyway:

Well this is true. But as you know, there's so much new talent out there. It'd be great if they could have their 15 minutes.

Hmmm, over and above the profiles, am I the only one who thinks the new site is total pants? I mean, what should you be showing a lot of on the site for a 3D environment - yeah, pictures, that's right. Have you noticed what a small selection there are on the site, with many repeating frequently, all of them small, most of them not even very good pictures at that.

As for the profiles, well, I guess somebody at SL thought it was a good idea, not sure why though, as I can't really see the point. Again the quality of the shots that go with the profiles aren't very good either.

I guess this new site lack the depth that the old site showed, to me anyway. And whoever is choosing shots for this new sites needs to re-think what they're doing. It's really not showing visually what's possible in SL, or even making the best of how it looks.

Try again.

Yes and if it were completely random, then people would complain because they WERE featured and didn't want to be.

Now don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Aimee Webber (and not just so she makes me a red sox baseball shirt), after all I own land so she can have fun in SL! I also love my Cubbey Tera Interceptor. I don't know Marcos, but I do know that Ingrid is not Marcos.

But I must say that the Lidens, have, with thier website, focused on the same people. I understand its because they do some very cool and popular stuff, but really, you can see where the FIC rumors have thier genesis. These are the cool kids of SL.

I think a better Idea would be to feature different people every month or so, whether they are designers or socialites, and including them on the website, with a short profile.

I have made my position on the FIC clear in other forums. But really LL does have a featurati issue. I mean Aimee sticking her tongue out at me on the upper right hand corner of the screen is a nice reminder that Big Sister is watching me, but LL should change up the faces from time to time.

There is an occidental saying, 'Given the choice, one prefers to do business with ones friends.' This holds as true in virtual worlds as real ones. The poor kook that started this thread labors under the delusion that there will ever be a time when they will be 'chosen' and 'popular'. The failure to realise they have long, long ago shot themselves in the head and any possibility for such an end they have, themselves, eliminated long, long ago.

Aimee in the upper right hand corner is a nice nod to the reality that Aimee was willing to be more than a shrill, strident, and completely reactive presence in the world. They rewarded her for it. Good for Aimee, and good for Linden Labs, too.

What kind of hopelessly fucked-in-the-head fool do you have to be to think that bile, angst, paranoia, and conspiracy theories are the way to popularity and success?

Let's ask Prokovy! :)

Concur to a degree. I definitly thought the previous website showed off the possibilities of SL more with the click through galleries at the top of the web pages.

The suggestion to randomly rotate the profiles is a great one. But they didn't do that, did they? If they could just have a roving reporter fly in world now and then and just snap some people or events or builds, that would be great. But that's probably too much work.

Not yet! But if people complain enough or want it enough, perhaps it'll be changed. :) The roving reporter is a good idea, but not needed, atleast not with Snapzilla around, why have one person doing it when you can have a whole big group of them.

Well I guess you got to write about something. At least you're not pointing out that the sun sets every day or why the TV goes dark when you turn it off. Hey at least you're staying on topic.
Seriously Prokofy, I just don't get your beef. I look at who's featured and I just see people that are consistant, quality, long-term content builders that if I were running a operation like SL, I would be more than happy to feature as representatives. If there were a replicable pattern to who was featured, I would chalk it up to laziness before I would start inventing new status-groups.
You might not be jealous of how some of these 'elect' people get singled out by LL, but I do think the subject of so many of your posts are rooted in envy. Which is okay and I feel those things too, but I don't spew paragraphs post after post granting no real value other than singling out the irreducible fact that I am.

It's really great to hear this feedback. We want the site to contain more Resident-created content. We already had some profiles, and used them to demonstrate success stories in "commerce", "IP rights", "scripting", but I randomly solicited some of the profiles from Residents in popluated places to put in "communication" and other general categories. Not having dislikes, etc was just a matter of an answer being too long, boring, etc. We DID try to "keep it real" though. Chip Midnight's advice "don't use the Linden-supplied templates" is definitely "for the people." I would give you an email address to send your profile info to, but we are planning to implement profile features soon that will make your submission obsolete. Hang in there, the revolution is coming...

From: Prokofy Neva
The Lindens' new website is really a thing of great beauty and joy! Check it out!

It is marred by some of the usual prejudices, however.

Now...why are we not surprised to see the same-old, same-old FICs among the Feature-ati? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it gets *so tiresome* hearing Prok yammer on and on about the FIC -- but I mean, do I make this stuff up? There it is on the website once again, blecth.

On the one hand, here's what the ad copy says:

Party endlessly -- got that?

Now note what the featurati say:

Dislikes: Clubs & casinos
Tips for beginners: “If you want to have a business, make something you like. Put your creativity into it, and someone will most likely buy it and enjoy it too.”

SL Income: "I make much much more money than I actually need. I give a lot of it away."
Sign: Scorpio
Likes: Socializing, flirting, making clothing, building really gritty city scenes, and making people laugh
Dislikes: Dance clubs, griefing and sex balls
Tip for beginners: “Focus on yourself and your work and try to find joy in what you do. Every moment you spend trying to bring down your competitors is a moment you are not improving your own skills

Cubey Terra
Joined: September 2003
SL Profession: Aircraft builder
Store: Abbotts Aerodrome
Location: Abbotts (40, 160)
Sign: Libra
Likes: Building, scripting, modeling, skydiving at Abbotts Aerodrome, visiting Luskwood
Dislikes: Clubs, casinos, malls
Tip for beginners : “Don't come out of the gate expecting to earn wads of cash. SL isn't about cash. It's about people. Meet people, learn what people do and like in SL, then figure out what YOU want to do in SL. If you're really good at it, then you'll probably make money at it. If not, then hey... you'll probably have fun anyway.”

See what I mean? On the one hand, lure in the masses with promises of endless parties in clubs where you might meet that special someone and couple up!

On the other hand, the hand-picked, selected, feated inner core featureati are here to tell you with great disdain that they "dislike" clubs, casinos, and sex balls. Yuckies! So, take home that message please! If you, too, want to succeed, HATE clubs and casinos! BOOOO!

Now, I was dying to see what they'd say about busineses!

See? Every single job or profession is denoted without any bias. Gunsmith is just gunsmith, not "manufacturer of death machine". Even "nightclub owner" is just "nightclub owner" -- not "owner-of-thing-Aimee-hates".

But...a person who buys and sells land is a real estate speculator...BOOO!!! HISSSS!!!!

EBIL CREATURE! *Speculating* in land -- flipping it over to make a profit! HORRIBLE!

The Lindens always let you know what they are really up to. They do it every time. They are encouraging masses of people to try the game. They are about funnelling some of them in a kind of medieval guild apprentice system through some of the selected artisans and guild chiefs. They are about discouraging mass, low-brown entertainment like clubs and casinos by letting every know what the elite say about them.

Of course, by fronting those "randomy selected" FIC-ites, the Lindens have plausible deniability.

Interesting, a few other people featured like Trimda Hedges and Mistress Midnight had no "dislikes" they had to inflict on anybody.

Am I just looking for conspiracy theories? Am I just perpetuating an interesting myth?

No, I'm looking at a website, and taking home the message I'm meant to take home.
