Come to Austin and I'll take you to our newest landmark, the new City Hall. It is like something that belongs on SL. See photos here. http://www.pbase.com/cptinrn/city_hallI spent the last 6 years of my RL working on the design and construction of this facility. I could take a photo of you holding the cube on the balcony below the stinger (pointy thing) or anywhere else that suits your fancy. ArchTx

first, my current location is the Jersey Shore area (Pt. Pleasant Beach / Brick) and would, of course, suggest changing Trenton to Jersey Shore.. it would be really cool to see a pic of the prim on the Pt. Pleasant jetty!!! a lot of history there for a lot of people.. AND it's picturesque! second, it really doesn't matter where in NJ you go.. i'll probably show up both the Jersey and Philly locations.. and possibly NYC as well. all cool places to visit and i would get a kick out of meeting all these SLers in RL! third, i have an idea: november. thanksgiving week. amsterdam. cannabis cup. the cannabis cup prim event! i'm sure there a few SLers who would like to find themselves visiting Amsterdam someday, so why not take advantage of it? if feasible? i was at "the cup" once and fell in love with the city.. it felt like home. we could have a second (third, fourth, etc..?) prim in attendance at the cup.. sign it, take pics throughout the week, etc.. we could even report in to SL from the 'Dam, or at least blog it.. hmm, yeah.. k, sorry.. about to hi-jack.. - Maxx, this is an awesome idea! i would be honored to sign the prim, not to mention getting to visit with other SLers as well. so yeah, i'll be there.. maybe more than once.

Hey, I know no one actually knows me or whatever, but.. If you're planning on going from Denver up to Wyoming, you'll be going straight through Fort Collins. o_o Come pay me a visit? I'd love to at least -see- the cube. O_O

From: Maxx Monde Objective: Take a nicely finished wood prim (default half-meter cubed size) to different locations and have SL-Users sign it, ultimately being presented to Linden Lab in California, where they'll hopefully put it on display, or at least use it to balance the coffee machine or use it as a footrest. (Contemplating a chrome prim as well, but not sure how to go about that yet.) What I *will* do: Meet you in a pre-arranged public place, get a signature on the Prim, and if you're agreeable, some photos. Also I'd like to journal some of your thoughts about SL, and take pics of the prim itself in various locations in the cities I visit as evidence of the journey. What I *won't* do: Stalk you, live in your house, eat all your food and bother your neighbors. I'm not trying to 'hook up' or date you, run up your long distance bill or find out what house you live in. (Please see the prior section.)Schedule/Time: Looking to do this in the summer - so I can plan things out in advance and use up all that vacation time I have coming to me. I'd like to drive primarily, as explaining a large wooden box that I *must* keep with me at all times would drive security personnel to believe I had other motives. And yes, I'm contemplating international destinations, but obviously I can't go everywhere in a limited time period. I have a few people lined up already, but I wanted to open it up generally to see if there was more interest, and possibly fill in my driving route a bit more (Note: If I figure out it will take 3 months and $10,000 to do it, obviously the list will have to be pared down to what I can reasonably afford time/expense wise, so bear with me.)SL PRIM TOUR 2005:ChicagoPhiladelphiaFlorida....California (Linden Lab!) Look me up if you stop in Chicago... Hope you don't mind stopping by the correctional facility here in Elgin. I can provide visiting hours and meet you in the guard area. The guards don't allow us to have pens or pencils, but I am sure you could convince them otherwise. Hope to see yah soon.... Prong Thetan (I didn't do it..... REALLY)

Well, at least it's not Sheffield... (My American husband really wants to visit Sheffield after seeing The Full Monty. I don't understand it. At least he hasn't mention visiting Swindon or Slough.) (Yes, I've lived in both Swindon and Slough.)

Somehow just getting to this thread now...
Awesome idea Maxx and I'd love to sign the prim and meet you. I'm in Portland, Oregon. I noticed you have Salem as your listed city for Oregon - that is in fact the capitol but Portland is really the main "big city" of Oregon. You might find there are more SL'rs in this area rather than Salem. I know there are at least a few Portlanders or people who are close-by in SL.

I will make road trip down to Austin, Texas. Unless you are planning on swinging through Dallas. This is a cool idea

From: Newfie Pendragon Whoo Philly! Just say when, and I'll pitch for a cheesesteak. You know, one of those *real* cheesesteaks - not like those cold greasy things with cheese whiz like they make in New Jersey *grins* Hey, this South Jersey resident resembles that comment Maxx, sign me up for Philly, I'll do my best to make it across the river. -Bone

hmm..
02-21-2005 09:07
why do i get the feeling that the Philly meeting is going to end up a huge SLer party? another thing i was wondering, how many people plan on bringing friends/family to meet the RL people behind the SLers? i know i'm going to try to bring a few myself.. i think it'll be interesting to meet SL friends in the company of RL friends as well. (maybe even get a few new recruits! )

I'm open to logistics planning, someone is on the case now, since I'm not the best road-trip-person-planning-whatever...but I do like driving, so that helps. Still figuring it out folks, so I'll try to include as many places as I can. I'll let ya know

SL Prim Tour - 2005
02-23-2005 17:54
Where's all my Arizona peeps! Hey, Phoenix is a big city, and only a 6 hour drive from LA! (unless you drive like I do, then it's 4 1/2). So, I guess that mean I could go to an LA meetup. But then again, going to the Bay area, Sir & i could drop in at the Power Exchage.... >

I'm currently in Wisconsin, but I'd be happy to come down to Chicago. It would be great if, in at least a few of the larger or more hub-like cities (like Chicago), this could be combined with a few-hour meeting event. I'm thinking of the kind on www.meetup.com, but as a one-time thing, for now (actually this could be the basis for Second Life meet-ups to be started in such cities.) I know some people prefer to keep SL and RL distinct, but others, like myself, are interested in mixing the two actively. I don't get out enough as it is, so it's nice to find something that connects these two worlds. As for expenses, are you planning to stay in hotels? One alternative to consider is www.hospitalityclub.org, which is essentially a database of people who are interested in sharing their homes with travellers for free, and finding such accommodations. There are quite a few people, all over the world (including the US) in that system who would be happy to host you. It takes a bit of work to contact them and make arrangements, but the system makes this easy to do. A lot of people who do massive tours like this use Hospitality Club, and it cuts a lot off of their travel expenses and provides a great opportunity to meet people. (I haven't used it myself yet, but I'm an online chat volunteer for HC and I've talked to a lot of people who have.) Good luck with your planning. This could be good publicity for SL as well as an opportunity to stimulate some RL interaction.
