I just listened to this by happenstance today and was struck by the poignancy of such coming from a troubled soul who attempted suicide multiple times - recently succesfully to the loss of friends and the arts. I was too young to understand people crying over Lennon's untimely death, not so for Elliot. From the official Elliot Smith fan club:
