Politics is da devil!
That said, when the neighbor dog bites, you don't go kick the other dogs in the neighborhood. If the dog annalogy is condescending I appologize. How about this: Post 911 as a bar fight...
Osama gets himself worked up and takes a poke at Bush/US. Bush/US gets up dusts himself off and feels like an idiot for getting blind sided by a little guy. He yells to his buddies to help him kick the little shit's ass and pulls out a knife. Now Osama's sorta friends (read people sympathizing or even just in close quarters but not involved) take a look at this and think to themselves, ah what the hell were you thinking, Bush/US is a biiiig sucker and he's got that nasty lookin knife. Bush/US sees everybody edging away and thinks "ah-ha! they put him up to it!" and while Bush/US' buddies are trying to tell him "man Osama isn't worth it, everyone gets caught flat footed sometimes, next time just watch your back", bush tells them to get lost then he'll do it himself and plunges in at Osama. You have to understand Bush/US has a lot of pride, and nobody can be allowed to get away with this sorta thing. Afghanistan/Pakistan tries to shield Osama or possibly just gets in the way cause he's not paying attention. Osama manages to get out hte back door but Bush/US is still pissed and needs to take it out on someone. Saddam/Iraq and Bush/US aren't friendly mainly cause of some bad business deals in the past. Bush yells "I know you had something to do with it, you probably set the whole thing up!". Saddam/Iraq just laughs and says "ya ya, what if i did you big blow hard". Now Bush/US is just not making progress on any front. he missed Osama, his friends aren't helping and to top it all off Saddam/Iraq is getting mouthy. Saddam/Iraq reaches into his pocket for a smoke just to be a smartass and show he's unconcerned. Bush/US yells "He's got a gun!" dives in swinging. Saddam/Iraq learned from last time and gets in some shots of his own. Meanwhile Bush/US' buddies are trying to pull him off but they don't really want to mess up a friend so are largely unsuccessful. Well The fight lasts quite a while and Bush/US is a bit bruised up but the knife made the difference, Saddam/Iraq is laid out. Bush/US realizes it wasn't a gun and stalks off goin "well it looked like he was reaching for something". Bush/US' buddies are shaking their heads and everybody knows it's not going to be civil around here for a while. Now Osama was sortof a hanger on, most of his "friends" were pretty indifferent. Saddam/Iraq was a shady dealer but "one of their own" so there's some bad feelings about his getting cooled. Bush/US thinks well at least they'll think twice about messing with me now... but will they? or will they just start slashing his tires, throwing rocks through windows, etc... and if it does come to a fight again... are they gonna back down... or swing hard and fast because Bush/US is dangerous enough he's gotta get taken down early?

So are you saying that your government is actually more afraid of communists, university students and turkeys than it is of either the majority of its citizens or the US?

Not to get involved in this argument again, but just to clarify: the US was only marginally involved in WW2. Maybe in recent years the US may have finally gotten a WW2 memorial, but for the most part, the US forces were involved in the final conflicts -- liberating holland and the normandy invasion basically. The US didn't save anyone's ass back then. They just played their little part. If anything it was the Canadians and the brits who did most of the work in both WWs, as the giant monuments across Europe and Canada will attest to as well as the memorial days and rememberances will attest to. One of the famous rememberances from that time for the Canadians is, "Lest We Forget" War IS hell, and while it may sometimes be imenent -- the moikers of peace and freedom should never be the first to step foot into one, but avoid it at all costs.

This is far from the truth on many levels: From: someone A look at major governmental pledges for victims of the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami. The World Bank and the Asian Bank of Development also pledged more than $500 million. All figures in U.S. dollars:
AUSTRALIA - $810 million (grants and loans)
GERMANY - $674 million
JAPAN - $500 million
UNITED STATES - $350 million
NORWAY - $183 million
FRANCE - $103 million
BRITAIN - $95 million
SWEDEN - $75.5 million
DENMARK - $75 million
SPAIN - $68 million
CANADA - $67 million
CHINA - US$60 million
SOUTH KOREA - $50 million
TAIWAN - US$50 million
NETHERLANDS - $32 million
EUROPEAN COMMISSION - $31 million
SWITZERLAND - $23.5 million
INDIA - $23 million
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - $20 million True we are in the top 5 but so far as our nations wealth and size is concerned we are far from numero uno....In fact GW had to pratically be begged to give more than a pitance http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/opinion.cfm?id=3802005From: someone While the world rapidly woke up to the shocking reality of the worst natural disaster for a generation, and Bill Clinton was quickly attempting to plot the way towards recovery, his successor as the most powerful man on the planet remained apparently oblivious to the suffering. Holed up for Christmas on his ranch in Crawford, Texas, a president who famously refuses to take work home with him was reluctant to let international affairs impinge on the most important holiday of the year.
While scores of communities from India to Thailand, Sri Lanka to East Africa struggled to rebuild villages washed away by the tsunami; while the rotting corpses piled up in their thousands and even the survivors were beginning to perish; George Bush remained uncharacteristically silent.
It was three days after the tidal wave struck that Bush finally ventured out to offer his considered reaction to the "loss and grief to the world that is beyond our comprehension". His own staff acknowledged that, for the countries affected, the disaster was "their 9/11".
Yet the man who declared the international war on terror and ordered the assault on Afghanistan within hours of the al-Qaeda attacks is dragging his feet.
Bush, who warned Asian leaders almost immediately after 9/11 that they would be judged by their contribution to the war on terror, waited 72 hours before he called to offer his condolences in the wake of this shocking tragedy. From a trailer outside his ranch, he called the leaders of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia and India to pledge his support. That support amounted to $35m, barely £18m, a figure dwarfed by the sums pledged by nations including Spain and Japan.
Canada on the otherhand is offering a more long range contribution so far unmatched by the US. I am sure that bombing Middle Eastern countries will do far more to build a bridge for peace than aiding those in troubling times, right: From: someone Canada was one of the first donor countries to respond to the disaster caused by the earthquake and tsunamis that swept through many countries in South and Southeast Asia and Africa on December 26, 2004, and is one of the most significant contributors of humanitarian assistance. The Government of Canada has committed up to $425 million over five years for the international relief effort, including:
$265 million for humanitarian and rehabilitation assistance, including an estimated $150 million to match the generous contributions of individual and groups of Canadians to eligible charitable organizations; and,
$160 million for ongoing rehabilitation assistance to the affected region from 2005-09. Mouthing off is easy...proving your generalizations is far more difficult. In fact I tried and failed to prove that the US was the first and highest contributor to the tsunami aid fund. It seems that we are the loudest though. Afterall no country was ever able to exist before the US came about right....our couple of hundred years has overshadowed the rise and fall of all other great nations correct...pfft.

From: Neehai Zapata Clinton was getting the job done. I know Pugs hate to admit it, but it was true.
With every action there was a swift and tactical response from the US.
Who were the people crying when Clinton was taking care of business?
Well Alby, just go dust off your "No War for Monica" sign in the garage. That should give you a clue.
Georgie boy dropped the ball. He's done it all his life. The Bush family may want to invest in some petroleum-based glue for little Georgie's hands. Uh huh. Clinton decided to lob a few Tomahawk's into a camp in Afghanistan and missed good oh terror boy... where was his follow up? Thin air if I remember correctly. Swift and tactical response from Clinton? Gee. That isn't the way I remember it when the Milosevic crew was herding people down roads to the borders and the border guards were raping the women and children and making mass graves for hosts of the men they didn't like. Swift response, huh? Even Gen Clark said Clinton didn't have the balls ot act. Clilnton took care of business? Which business was that other than kissing Kofi's butt, making stains on a certain blue dress, and redefining the meaning of words as he directly and deliberately looked into the camera and lied? Oh.. you mean THAT business? Agree with Bush's policies or not, he has acted where Clinton acted very Kerry-like - flip-flopping hypocritically all over the map as he searched for poll approval so that "his legacy" would be positive somehow. Gotta tell you this --- it ain't W that is going to be in the history books as the guy who faced impeachment procedings for doing his job.

Selective memory is a funny thing, huh? Nice fallacy there Korgie...You are correct in stating that the Nato bombing of Yugoslavia was riddled with problems (civilians killed ect). You know as well as I do that comparing the Bush war against over half of the world without the support of anyone save 3 countries and his removal of constitutional rights in this country is a big friggin leap from a Nato supported battle in Yugoslavia. Please enlighten me as to the depths of your correlation of the two.

Thats pretty impressive when you factor in our population -
July 2001, Australia's est. population is 19,357,594 2000 population of California : 33,871,648
Kinda gives you some perspective.

No Clinton wasn't perfect but he is also no longer in office and in 4 years Bush has come no closer to taking down Al Queda.

Siggy. Doesn't it though....I am an American citizen and proud of my country but I cannot stand the loud mouths who put forth false information via generalizations. Those who will say that we gave the most and therefore the world should kiss our waxed tanned bums should really take a bit to look at the facts. From: Isis Becquerel snip.. As usual you make garbage attacks from a fallacious starting point. NATO did not do a damn thing until th US pushed for it. Madame Secretary her Ugliness literally twisted the arms of our "NATO Allies" to get them to even consider agreeing to act. Get your facts straight lest you prove your ignorance. Isis: You know, you foreigners just don't have a clue. The $350 million was just from the US Government's emergency cash pile. Did anybody include the millions that Private citizens and corporations are donating for Tsunami Relief? I swear, we Americans get a bad rap because nobody wants to accept the FACT that America helps the world. Because that would ruin their hate speeches that America F'ing gives out the wazoo to help everybody around the world. Open Your Eyes People!!!! America is the Greatest!!! Alby,
You're exactly right. Fact is, while the American *government* doesn't give much in comparison to other countries-America on the WHOLE to include private and corporate donations consistently tops the list. The haters just don't want to publicize anything positive about the US. I expect that sort of behavior from foreigners-it sickens me to see my fellow Americans belittling the contributions and efforts of their fellow citizens.

Oh.. and don't by any chance forget to ignore the use of US Armed Forces personnel and material to bring in supplies, to provide medical services, to provide survival materials, to provide construction materials and personnel... Please, let's NOT count that as contributions....
We definitely don't want to remember any of that because the Islamisists in some of the stricken countries there would prefer their people die rather than accept - or admit they accepted - assistance from the great Satan that is the US Armed Forces.
/me shakes head and walks away pondering the refusal of some people to admit the US ain't one big single despicable entity.
