The more i think about this and talk with others, the more i like this idea! Assume LL does implement all that they have said in the last 24 hours - including $25 per rate. Then if we're all wiped to 0 then we all start over. There has been so much discussion about how meaningless the rating systems is, that short of re-designing it, I'm liking the Wipe All Rates to 0 (WAR0) idea.

From: Merwan Marker Then if we're all wiped to 0 then we all start over. you are right merwan. If ratings are to serve any function at all, then everyone should start with a clean slate. You can't mix the 1L ratings with 25L ratings and expect to find that number useful at all. Bummer to those who have built up huge counts tho. But to be honest with you, I'm not sure what function the rating system serves at all these days, apart from a way to pay someone a big compliment.

I don't like the idea, but it's fairest, so yes, I agree.

If it happens, it happens. There are flipsides to all of these coins. I'd personally be disappointed, because I am not a very social person and it has been a personal challenge -- at least for me initially -- to meet and greet people in SL. Something I am personally very proud and thrilled of, and if my ratings were going to be wiped, I would at least like a historical record kept somewhere. Otherwise, for me, it'd be like "last few months... whaaa?" Of course, someone's going to bring out the unquantifiable "human element" that "people know anyway and that rates don't mean a dang thing"... so another LOOP!!! there. *smiles cheekily* I have friends who are fine, fine people who were given negs in ill-mannered, ignorant situations. They might be relieved to see their slates wiped in this way. Of course, along with the negs go the positives. So, I can't say I'd be happy if rates were erased, but I'll embrace change as it comes and continue to have faith in the Lindens's decisions for the long-term. The future's an exciting place to be. I just want the best for us as a community.

Wipe it.
I don't just mean to zero, I mean get rid of ratings. What purpose do they serve?
None.

NO NO NO NO NO NO! And by the way, NO!
It really doesn't seem right to just wipe out every rating that a person has gotten in their 3 months, or 6 months, or year and a half or whatever of SecondLife. I'm not naieve enough to think that every rating that anyone has was "earned" but those ratings do represent a history and taken overall, represent a person's time comitment and at least a hint (not a perfect reflection of course) of how their peers esteem them. I find it really troubling that we would just wipe that all out like it never happened so a few currency traders can get a slightly higher value on their L$ to US$ sales.

Tina, if you're comitting time to getting ratings, you're what I like to call a "Rate Whore". That's why we want them wiped in the first place!

So those of us who only have basic accounts and don't sell anything in-world will have to depend solely on that base weekly stipend of a whopping L$50? Oh yeah, that sounds like a great idea. [/sarcasm]
If they do reset the ratings to zero for everyone, will we all get the L$ back that we spent rating other people? [<--- not sarcasm]

From: someone And you're worried about cutting event funding ruining the economy! On the contrary, I think it will give this sudden economic change the cushion it needs in order to minimize overall shock Plus I never said cutting event funding would ruin the economy. Quite the opposite in fact over on the Economy forum. -AP

From: Lance LeFay They're supplying you with a product. And note the And I'm supplying LL with an additional membership to make their Execs/PR people stronger when pitching SL to potential investors. "We've got X number of active members!" L$50/week also doesn't exactly encourage Basic account users to try their hands at creating anything other than untextured objects. At least the Stipend Rating brings in SOME additional moneys to use for uploading textures, sounds, or animations. noted.

If rates are wiped, they need to NOT be related to any source of income. Now that is fair.
If they are not separated from income, they will just be gamed again. So.. leave them alone, or get rid of rates, and the bonus.
