You know, I actually thought the same thing last night ;)

Honestly, I still don't see any logical argument against this whatsoever. If the Lindens want to take away cameras and also disable screenshots, they can; if they want to make panties and vaginas not visible, they can do that too (now i'm wondering if they'll outlaw skirts on the teen grid...) but I don't think it's any more an invasion of privacy than taking a picture of a wooden block somebody made. It's an object, I'm using SL tools to take a picture of it, and then I'm displaying it.

What's the part I'm missing? I got a lot of angry IMs, but nobody has been able to argue anything beyond "it's my body" (to which I've asked "is it different if i take a picture of your face"?) or "it's bad!" (to which I point out it's in a mature area, and there are REAL LIFE pornography pictures throught the mature sims).

Anybody got a coherentish argument against it, for my edimification?

Taco Rubio
Agent of Satan

I don't know about a coherent argument. However, maybe if you had clarified in your original post if the pics were RL or SL?

I talked to Taco at length about this last night. I don't think anybody would consider me a prude, so the sexual nature of this exhibit is more or less a detail. My only issue was the non-consent and refusal to inform the subjects. Taco's answer to this was that if the subjects somehow find out they are in this show and ask him to take the image down, he will. I think he is missing the point.

Taco feels that he is courageously taking on social norms with this exhibit. Courageously...with crotch photos of the unaware. Couldn't he have put HIMSELF in some kind of humiliating role in the name of his social statement? One simple IM to the subjects could add legitimacy to this project, but he refuses.

Sorry Taco. I am SO not impressed.

I do.

I am not required in any way to request or obtain consent. Consent to take/reproduce pictures has not been established as a part of TOS, and if it were to be, about 99% of the slideshows in SL would have to be taken down.

You haven't told me the point, unless its that you feel I need some consent that you are not applying to anybody else in SL?

I do constantly. There is a picture with my wingwang out in the article. I did not give consent for it to be taken or published, and I couldn't give a whit that it was.

I'm filing this whole thing under the "it's bad" category. Don't shove your morality down my throat, Aimee.

In SL toy can take pictures of whatever you want, whenever you want. If it's in the world, it's fair game, panties or no panties. I'm certainly not gonna ask if I can take a photo ANYWHERE in SL... it's a freely available tool and I'm gonna use it when and where I see fit. People can be as offended as they like if I choose to post a pic, but if "offensive" pictures are in a mature build, then there's really nothing you can do about it, especially if there is no way to tell exactly WHO it is in the picture.

Would it really matter what part(s) of the virtual anatomy was snapshotted? IMO no, because as a general rule, someone somewhere is gonna be offended if I have a collection of SL ear shots, butt shots, whatever. Big whoop. Get over it, we are not Puritans. If you don't like what ya see in some mature area, tough noogies. Just fly away! :P

My 2 cents,

Arti

Ok Taco. If the fact that you are just being mean to these girls isn't a coherent arguement, then maybe this one from the TOS is:

you agree that you shall not:
(iv) take any action or upload, post, e-mail or otherwise transmit Content as determined by Linden at its sole discretion that is harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, causes tort, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

The important words are "vulgar", "invasive of another's privacy" and "otherwise objectionable" but the most important phrase is:

"Determined by Linden at its sole discretion"

If you got a lot of angry IMs this arguement will soon be moot.

You just don't get it, Aimee. You start off with the comment that i'm being "mean"....I JUST asked that you not shove your morality down my throat.

Then you pick out what YOU feel are the applicable phrases: "vulgar", "invasive of another's privacy" and "otherwise objectionable".....passing over obscene, libelous, and hateful....once again YOU are applying morality as YOU see it to MY project.

I pray that the Lindens are (and it has been my experience that they are) tolerant of this exhibit. The Lindens I've shown it to have been amused by it, and I hope that this will continue.

If they decide to take it down, so be it. I do apreciate you being the stalwart defender of cartoon panty rightousness though. It's a good cause and I'm glad you took it up.

I really miss my laptop.

I leave for two days and Taco goes off the deep end again! :-) I really miss his AFK event contests, though.

And Aimee - admit it! - we all know you're a prude. :-)

I guess you are no longer in love with me :D

It would seem you are a MUCH different person than I thought you were, and by the sounds of it, I am not the person you thought I was. Time to agree to disagree. This is in the hands of the Lindens now.

I think it's fair to say we disagree, and that I'm no longer in love with you :(

I'll try to remember to run any future projects through the Church of Aimee for your stamp of moral and political correctness, prior to development.

Well, I'm hardly a prude, but I do have family that plays this game too. I would preffer to keep my exposure to a minimun on nudity. I have had nude photos taken, and I have had complete control over distribution, and it was always tasteful.
Just because someone puts the time into a photo-realistic looking AV doesn't mean it's fair game for you to exploit.
That just makes me really sad. I thought taco was always pretty cool, I guess it's just an attention thing.

Wasn't Grimmy Moonflower banned for taking an upskirt shot of Pituca's AV and displaying it?

*sighs*

And now it's Linden-sanctioned.

First and foremost, I am pretty cool.

When you say you have nude photos that you have complete control over, distribution wise, do you know why? It's because you don't walk around naked in SL at which point anyone could snap a picture of you nude. A ***REALLY*** good way to make sure you don't have a picture of your vagina taken while in a skirt is to make sure you don't go out in public in SL with a skirt and vagina on.

this part I don't get at all:

From: someone

Well you're applying "exploit" to this, which I don't know I'm doing. I've made 2 linden dollars so far. The part I'm not getting though, is the part where you think that if you build an AV, it's unfair if I photograph it in game. Why aren't you going after everyone who's taken a snapshot of another person in game?

Oh yeah, it's personal morality being applied to my project again.

Has it been Linden sanctioned? Any Lindens want to weigh in on this issue? If a Linden tells me I am being an uptight old bitty for advocating consent before displaying these images, I am totally prepared to shut up and eat crow.
