Autism in SL

I have personal experience of autistic spectrum disorders, and when someone posts unmitigated bollocks such as the posts by Sam on this thread, I feel obliged to pull them up on it.

Is torley part of the ruling class? She never tried to rule me, so i couldnt care the less.
Fact is that this post is simply tasteless, uncalled for and out of place, whoever the target may be.

I find it interesting - it is clear that the poster has a form of ASD - this apparently makes him amusing for criticising someone else with a form of ASD that seems less pronounced.

There is no ruling class. The fact is some asshat made an attack on someone because he wants attention and now he's getting it. This is the same asshat that complained in an earlier thread that he and his friends were banned for no reason....technically he's not even supposed to be posting here. Sorry, I feel no pity for him and he's getting what he deserves.

My thoughts exactly. It is amazing how personal attack. threats and name calling replaces logical/intellectual reply, isn't it? Why call Sam names when you object to what he is saying? Address the points he makes if you disagree. Name calling and cursing makes you guilty of the conduct to which you object.

This is the first thread I've ever reported to the Lindens and I've been here a while. Nasty and uncalled for.

I couldn't agree more. Have some decorum, people! Don't stoop down to the level of the person who created this thread. Even more so if he truly has the disability he states.

I hope that the Lindens respond more aggressively to the sudden influx of trolls. I'm used to being one of the most insensitive assholes on this forum, and these goons are trumping me with every post they make.

... maybe you should too, Sam I could write in my profile that I'm a disabled seropositive black metastases-ladden teenage mother of three blind kids with no welfare support to try to get attention, and I wouldn't get attention if people didn't enjoy, to some way, giving me some (and me giving them something in return, be it friendship, sweetness or simple joy).

He is being thoroughly rude to me on yahoo, and is just about to get blocked before I put my fist thru my monitor.

If he has a form of ASD, which he seems to have, he may not know or understand why he was banned. Being banned implies that he has breached the community's accepted standards of behaviour. It can be hard for people with a social disorder to understand the unwritten rules of acceptable behaviour.

Have you ever spoken to Torley? Or did you just come to the forums and post libelous statements without any basis in fact? While you have shown that you have the ability to use Google, you have not shown anything to indicate that you know anything about the topic at hand, or Torley. To publicly state that Torley is lying about autism is an incredibly low personal attack to make on someone, and says a lot more about you than it does about Torley.

You post in this thread and want people to believe you yourself are autistic. Perhaps you are - I don't know you and would not make any claims about you one way or another. I have spent extensive amounts of time talking to Torley for the past several months, and observe elements of Torley's autism all the time. I have dealt with another player in SL who had a much more severe form of autism, and also have a dear friend whose daughter is autistic, and yes, the differences are striking. That is why it is called AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER. I also had a friend in high school who had a mild form of it similar to Torley's, which is one of the reasons I instantly recognized it. It affects each person who has it very differently, and there is a wide spectrum of symptoms.

I suggest that you actually try speaking to Torley instead of just slurring someone in a forum.

I am curious exactly what discussion you are expecting, when the poster repeatedly states that someone is a liar.

I don't expect any discussion at all. I'd much rather that Sam just disappear into the void from whence he came. Katykiwi apparently thinks a discussion is in progress, though.

The thread is locked. As John Prototype pointed out several pages ago, there are far more helpful ways to support people with Autism/Asperger's. Attacking Sam or Torley is just sad.
