Torley has no need to use her disability as a "BE MY FRIEND" card. She uses her personality for that.

No, but the LAW says that you cannot pretend to be disabled, and torley lies to people about having a disorder she does not have, and you are incorrect because i do have the right to tell people what they should describe themselves as, they also have the right to not listen, you were incorrect in your statement so you should change it.

No one in second life is Torleys friend because of autism.....We're Torley's friend because Torely is genuinly a great person....The world needs more people like Torley and decidedly less people who can only whine.

How do you know that Torley doesn't have an autistic spectrum disorder?

I have some experience in this area. In fact, I'm going to be posting something in these forums in about an hour to publically announce something about people with Asperger's/Autism in Second Life. I guess it was a bit of synchronicity for me to see this thread just now...

Spectrum disorders are exactly that....disorders that run from mild to severe. Asperger's Syndrome is sometimes called "having a touch of Autism."

Arguing back and forth like this is very sad. There are much more constructive things to be done to help people dealing with Asperger's/Autism. Second Life presents a very unique opportunity to help people dealing with such things.

Thank you for posting this. I've said alot of forum posters do so cause their courage is in their keyboard and it brings out the real them, which sometimes isn't pretty. Now I have a specific example to point to.

I tend to avoid this type of the things in the forum because it is like wrestling with a pig... you get dirty and the pig really enjoys it.

Will you kindly just take option C Charlotte so nicely provided you so we can move on to something that wasn't started because of jealousy in the name of "education" or "clarifcation".

i would never lie about having autism and as i have an autistic spectrum disorder the same rules must apply and i don't know what other people think like you do but i know that out of the 20 or more people i know from my psychologists with autism, non of them would lie about having it, whilst the three people i do know who pretend to have it all lie to make people like them.

I'm going to let your completely uncalled for insults slide, as I recognise that you are displaying signs of ASperger's here - Difficulty in accepting criticism and/or being corrected, acting in a somewhat immature manner, sarcastic, negative, emotionally numb, and especially very criticizing.

I've no doubt in my mind that all Torley is doing is using a word she knows that others will recognise.
Why say "I've got Asperger's" when most will stare blankly at you, when you can sya "I've got a form of autism called ASperger's" - people respond better if they think they know what you're talking about.
Why you take issue with this is quite beyond me. I know a few researchers in this area who would argue that one could go ahead and call it autism, if speaking generally, and be accurate enough. I also know one who would back what you're saying as well. It strikes me as far too small an issue to get so worked up over.
By the way, I'm an almost 40 year old with a good job and a nice house and I have Asperger's. Funny how close you got there.
