City of Heroes: Opinions Wanted

"Authoring computer software for a game that includes characters created by a Member on NC Interactive’s servers, and selling such game to others for a fee would be a prohibited commercial use of a derivative work."

The same goes for selling shirts, pen 'n paper games, art, etc. They are very explicit.

There are going to be thousands of new super heros created by members...so if you create a game with a superhero in it, and it just happens to be recognized, now or in the future, as one that exists on their servers...

...I also wonder if the reciprocal is true. If I have created a super hero, and see somebody running around with it as a toon on their servers, is that infringement of some kind?

I don't think I've ever seen a MMORG explicitly state that you can not use a player-created character that exists on one of their servers in any way shape or form. Interesting. Not even your own character? What if I created it previously, then decided to use the name/look/story on the server (as it seems av customization is fairly robust for a MMORG), then started selling shirts with sketches (not in game sschots) of my toon on it...or started selling a comic...? Does NC have a lock on thousands of new super hero ideas?

This one sounds like swiss cheese to me.

I needed my CoH fix this morning, but they're updating servers throughout the day it seems. so, when i went to play, Infinity was down.

did i leave begrudgingly? nope.. started a new character on Triumph! HA!

edit: if you decide to check out that thread.. read the ENTIRE thing, from beginning to end. i know it's long, but TRUST ME.. it's worth it! to get a feel for what's going on and to read an amazingly detailed story that is weaving together throughout the different members of the group. absolutely incredible stuff! the most well-planned and thought out group in CoH, in my opinion!!!

I just hit 24 last night.. Still mainly playing Cienna on Justice, I can't get into any other type but my scrapper it seems.

A bunch of us on Virtue are still going strong. I have all my character slots filled since I can't stick with one character. Anyway, here's what i got so far..

Chef - Mind/Radiation Controller
Harry Sasquatch - Fire/Kinetics Controller
Ironchef - Empathy/Dark Defender
Mifune - Katana/Super Reflexes Scrapper (currently an enhancement mule)
Zo - Radiation/Dark Defender
Gza - Rad/Rad Defender
Kool Moe Dee - Ice/Energy Blaster
Rodfather - Storm/Radiation Defender

I'll probably delete all the other defenders besides Ironchef and try even more combos.

Cry for these deleted heroes since I violated some name policy. Or someone reported me..

Anyway this game is a blast. I'm addicted and this is definitely the most fun mmorpg I've played in a while. Can't wait for PvP.

If Ironchef is Robin, which he pretty much is, then I'm definitely Batman.

I command Ironchef's obedience on the Virtue Server. My characters are:

Bosozoku (scrapper, Lvl 15ish?, not playing him much)
Zippitydooda (blaster, Lvl 21)
Oatmeal (tanker, Lvl 12.. working this up as my main now)
..number of other toons, which I don't play much
Office Boy (controller)

Also, Feniks and Buttonpusher can often be found chasing me around (i'm hot baby, hot!), as well as a few other SL groupies.

The game is definitely fun, simple, but fun. At first I thought it was going to burn out fast, but the more I gain in levels, the more fun it becomes.

yes COH rocks.

I have Feniks a lvl 19 scrapper who loves being in debt and Mary a lvl 11 blaster.

Scrapper seems like more work than blaster, but great to solo with, I can suck the life out of any villian to revive myself, or fly away went I can't.

Mary the blaster is great fun, stand back and throw damage.

I have to say teaming with the SLers ROCKS! What great team we all make. Thanks guys!

Been looking for people from SL to team up with. So I created a new one on Virtue, his name is Electrobullett (Assault Rifle/Electricity Manipulation)

The Terata is coming together nicely. it really is (i believe) the most well thought out RP SG in CoH. awesome membership, enjoyable creativity, cohesive storylines..
