People are making quite tragic misinterpretations of what I want to say here. I'm not some strange, prudish person sitting here on Daily Mail Island flabbergasted at the vast selection of adult events in SL. Indeed, most of the dross events contain very little adult content - unless you count pixelated avatars dancing around in underwear as "adult". To be honest, I've seen more adult content in the average tabloid newspaper than I have in SL.

It's not that - it just seems to be an endless tsunami of dross that should be stopped. Think of this thread as your early warning system.

And then what happened?

her suspicions were confirmed? it's all just av sex, clubs and casinos, isnt it? (You gotta admire those club-casino with private rooms owners, really, huh? They have got it made on that catering to the lowest common denominator).

Actually, on the subject of dumb events, I was totally bemused by one a few weeks back... which was essentially a 'best genitalia' contest. I wondered how that would work? Do you actually rez your detached bits on a judging table, or sit yourself on a judging table and spread them for everyone to have a vote on? The mind boggles...

Ha, you, I actually wondered about a "best hair" contest. Now, I KNOW I have the best hair in SL, but I didn't make it. Do I have to split the winnings with Lash???? :D

Actually, that IS a good point. Once upon a time, you used to excitedly take your latest creation to a show and tell, and you might get a prize for it. Increasingly these days, the competitions are awarding prizes to people for just OWNING stuff. Now if it's an overall avatar style or look, then yes, it's perhaps something unique you have created yourself, even if the component parts are not your own work. But yeah, in a 'best hair' contest, if you're wearing a stock piece from someone else, is it REALLY fair that you win for turning up and owning something someone else did?

Frankly if I won I'd give Lash the money. But then thats cuz LOLash is just the sweetest.

Wow, thanks, timely reply Kris. I happen to be holding my first Mentor event on Friday. You guessed it! Show and TELL! I'm sooo original!! :D But really, I used to love show and tell! I love to see what people are making! I guess it's different now-a-days. I wonder how it will play out.

now it's 'look at my artificially intelligent neural networked self updating multi owner auto accounting vendor setup!'

Well, I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into "Look at the 'slave' I bought!!!". Or "Look at the sex thing I made!!" I really do think , or hope, that the entrants will be cool, but I've never done one of these! Yikes! Pollyanna, signing off. :D

there are many many types of people in second life and there are alot of people in second life that enjoy the mature events. there are also people that enjoy the pg events.
it is up to the individual to chose what type of envent they chose to go to.
it just so happens that adult mature theamed events are very popular and alot of people like to go to them.
case in point the clubs with the bigest dwell are mature theamed clubs.
why do you think this is because alot of people attend thes events.

also alot of people come to second life because they can come here to do things they would not normally do in real life and one of the things people enjoy doing in second life that they cant do in real is runn around in a thong or very sexy clothing and do very sexual things they would not do in real life.
just some food for thought
crucial

You are right. Most 12 year old boys CAN'T run around wearing thongs in RL. That's why they come here to cyber each other.

I was thinking of running a show and tell this week. Would have been my first in ages. I think I'll wait and see how yours goes first though. Good luck!

If I recall correctly wasn't there a couple of show-and-tells for mature themed items?

Why, oh why, is this events list unmoderated?

Every time I click on it, possibly looking for something interesting to do with my time here in SL, I am faced with a barrage of Hott (sic) Thong Contests, Wet Schoolgirl Contests, Wet Schoolgirl Goths In Hott Thong XXX Contests - and very, very little else. Most of these are badly written and laden with advertising for other things, not least the "escort" services.

I agree that some events are just big ads for clubs ; sometimes you go there and find out that the event is not even taking place... host missing.. that looks like a way to get dwell.

But if by chance you suggest moderation against sexay contests because they are too common, then I would disagree. Let people make the events they want to make, everybody's free to make his own events to add diversity.

No, I doubt anyone will think you a prude. You've hit on a valid "fact of life" in SL, where prudes probably don't last more than a day or two. I'm not a prude either, but I'd like to see a place for them here. I've always said that the mature/PG Sim scheme won't work, and it doesn't.

If you built a mall and designated half of it for regular stores and the other half for the sex trade what type of clientele would you expect to find at the mall most of the time? Even worse, if you intermingled Sears and Walmart with the sex shops you'd pretty much eliminate any chance that people would come here to buy their drill bits (nudge nudge).

When I was a noob (although some thread out there states I still am!), I was delighted with the variety in Events programming. Many show and tells, building classes, scripting classes, even poetry circles. That was begginning the last quarter of this year.

Since then, things have been decaying to their current state.

Couldn't it be a seasonal situation? Maybe most of the "varied-content" event hosts are on some RL vacation, or have had just too many occupations during the end of year festivities.

Let's see how this spring goes as far as event variety.. I just hope threads are set up with "Hurray, a scripting event!" and "Pat on the back: cool art gallery event" to encourage the hosts of these events. Moreover, now that we are nagging and whining about the "good" events, we better support them when they spring up!

Let's make good events and give 'em what they want...

NAKED BUILDING CONTEST!!!

MUSIC TRIVIA....WHILE SHAKING YOUR RUMP TO HIP HOP!!!!

POLITICAL DISCUSSION....IN THONNNNNNGGGSS!!!!!

Seriously, I'll make an effort to get to the good events and encourage these hosts to do more. And I'm putting a building 101 class together and some day I'll get around to hosting it.

Hey! I'd go to that - especially with the hippos!

Actually, nude building for noobs would be a neat idea!

Thanks for the heads-up to all, Hiro. Mystery Science Theater 3000 night was a smashing success with over 20 folk showing up for this, the very first MST3K night. I'll be setting up next week's event in a few moments.

I really share the same feelings towards events as Charlotte Gillespie does. It is quite depressing to see the lack of creativity.

I know there are many people out there that have fantastic ideas for events and I believe they shy away, due to the over populating of club/sex events. Its not a matter of mature vs pg, its the quality. I cant remember who said it but, yes the only reason why these clubs are busy is because there are no other events listed. Clubs are in competition with each other.. why.. dwell=popularity.. not for their club.. but the individual.. the owner.. thus they lack self esteem.

Makes me wonder that SL maybe needs a quaility events group that would bring together all the people who have great ideas...and implement them ;) **just a thought**

Peace Out
~Tya

kiki is right. you can bemoan the lack of quality events all day, but in the end, the dissappointment when u try to hold an event that requires some effort on the participants part and it fails miserably undoes good intentions.

i have started going out of my way to attend the events that are trying to swim upstream. if you object to the thong events, then put ur avatar where ur desire is and start attending the events that are trying to bring some thought to the process.

What she said! If you want to see more decent events, go support the few decent events there are!
