I'm running a discussion event tonight. If it's a success, I'll have more. Topic tonight is conspiracy theories, but will range from philosophy to religion to politics to weird stuff to humor topics.

I know a bunch of people have said, "If you don't like the lame events, make your own event". I'm with them, and that's exactly what I'm doing. It's not even that difficult -- Find someone with some land at a past event you've enjoyed, and ask them! They're going to benefit, because they get dwell. Then you just sign up for it 24 hours in advance on the website.

Linden will even give you money for your event if you can think of a competition angle.

Trivia events are very fun. In fact, I think any game involving just words can probably be done in SL with NO equipment or scripting required -- just call the event, hope people show up, and start the game.

Try to think of other real-life games that could be adapated. Even childhood games. I've already thought of a half dozen.

And if no one shows up? Well then maybe skank events are all there is a demand for. But the non-scank events I've been at lately have been very well attended.

Good luck - I'd attend but it's too late for Europe. :)

<snip> when I arrived in SL I presumed it was full of morons as all I saw was sex and casinos.

I hope, that despite meeting me, you no longer feel this way all the time Roberta? *blush* :o

Of course, if we presume all the events are going to be awful and don't look then we will miss the few gems. The host has a poor attendence and doesn't continue.

I've seen lost of good events fold because of low turnout.

So true.

Interspersed among the calendar are some good events.

Back in the days when Linden's would announce events was good. Alot of fun things happened, social gatherings were created and friends were made.

In all honesty, does dancing around in a thong for 25 minutes really constitute a competition?

Yes! Have you any idea the amount of chafing a thong can give after 25 minutes of dancing??? It's a contest of nerves and ability to suppress pain!

I don't see your event listed; what time will it take place?

there's a little check box to the left of the search button. If you leave it unchecked you wont see the "mature" events. If you dont want to see those items on the event list then you have a choice not to.

Such is the joy of choice. As long as there are customers their needs will be met. If the vast majority of people want to go to clubs and these events then we'll be seeing them for a long time to come.

The sad thing is most of the people who go to clubs go because there is nothing else better going on it's a vicious cycle

Erm.....Surely people came up with AV sex, people make SL what it is. Blaming something mechanical for what you see as a lack in SL is a little wide of the mark. Why not blame cyber, or possible the human sexual urge? Whether you, I, or anyone here agrees or not the majority are shaping SL. Such is life. As for people being stuck in a cycle of clubgoing, how do you think the cycle started?

Things will change and evolve like they have since I started. Watching can be half the fun :)

Why, oh why, is this events list unmoderated?

Every time I click on it, possibly looking for something interesting to do with my time here in SL, I am faced with a barrage of Hott (sic) Thong Contests, Wet Schoolgirl Contests, Wet Schoolgirl Goths In Hott Thong XXX Contests - and very, very little else. Most of these are badly written and laden with advertising for other things, not least the "escort" services. (For crying out loud, if you want that, look at the cards in the phone box down your street.) It should be moderated, if not by Lindens then by players who have been put into the position to moderate it.

And where is the variety of events? Most events that are actually worth going to don't appear on the events list - you have to know the right people to know they're on. Something must be done about this, before all there is to do in this virtual world that has such immense potential is go and stand naked under a ball that throws out L$10 every few minutes.

I'm Kent Brockman, and that's my two cents.

there are many many types of people in second life and there are alot of people in second life that enjoy the mature events. there are also people that enjoy the pg events.
it is up to the individual to chose what type of envent they chose to go to.
it just so happens that adult mature theamed events are very popular and alot of people like to go to them.
case in point the clubs with the bigest dwell are mature theamed clubs.
why do you think this is because alot of people attend thes events.

also alot of people come to second life because they can come here to do things they would not normally do in real life and one of the things people enjoy doing in second life that they cant do in real is runn around in a thong or very sexy clothing and do very sexual things they would not do in real life.
just some food for thought

I, for one, would LOVE to see “how to” events in the later part of the evening (after 8:00pst.) I always miss out because I am at work and am not normal enjoying my second life until after 8:00.

I can also recommend the “Knot Another Quiz” hosted by Mae Best.
Edifice Rex hosts building contests normally on Sunday Evenings. Even non-builders can come view the fabulous builds and walk away with new “tricks.”

Practical Magic has an outdoor “class room” with plenty of seating. I would be open to discussion if anyone is interested in using it for a PG event. It’s a PG sim and it seems to handle a crowd well.

another Crucial thought:

Maybe the Lindens should open a thong-and-wong grid for them, and a second life grid for those of us with more than one interest.

rofl im so gald you all only saw that i am the typo queen..... :) and really I dont care that i am.... if you dont like my spelling or typos then please dont read my posts :)
because they will be filled with mispelling and typos and i know this i am just to lazy to lazy to fix them. :)

and also
you basically dont want to admitt that adult theam events are some the most popular because thats what people want. :)

im am not condoning adult events what im saying is that there is room for all kinds of events.
also the reason behind mature sims is to allow ppl the fredome to express them selves any way they see fit. and if you do not like mature subjects or mature theams then dont go to thoes areas there are plenty of very nice places in second life that are pg and plenty of pg rated events

hugs kisses

I haven't been to an actual "event" since spring. I gave up on them, and I don't miss them.

I used to attend Valfar Stygian's trivia all the time, but real life interdicted. When I do have free time, I generally ignore the multitude of pointless events which are constantly being posted.

I think the problem is that the lowest common denominator is how to attract people. It is very offputting - when I arrived in SL I presumed it was full of morons as all I saw was sex and casinos.

And then what happened?

I hold events, but usually only get 5 to 10 people. Sometimes I get only one or two. What type of events would you be interested in attending?

I have a Wicca meeting, that gets a pretty good turnout. But I also had a book club meeting for The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King which was okay. But the Bianca got her baby back, All My Children discussion and quiz totally tanked.

I haven't given up and when I see a class or an event that sounds interesting, I try really hard to attend to encourage people to continue to have such events.
